“Come on, Adam… I’m so beating you at this game!” Sabina laughed loudly as she danced up and down while following the dance movements on the television screen. Adam arched an eyebrow and shook his head. “I’m done… I’m not good at this game.”

“Come on, someone has to dance with me,” Sabina declared as she didn’t even stop. She looked around the room and smiled at her dad. Michael shook his head. “Oh no, darling… I only dance with your mother.”

Walter chuckled and looked for Nikita to step up to try to beat her daughter in this motion-sensing dancing game and didn’t see her. He frowned. She had been in here when he had gone upstairs to the bathroom for a small break away from the family.

“She had to work on dinner, dad,” Sabina rolled her eyes as the song came to an end. She placed her hands on her hips. “She is making Christmas Dinner.”

“More like Christmas lunch,” Adam grumbled slightly as he sat down and looked over at his dad who smiled at the comment. But they had Sabina for the moment and Adam shifted. “How about we try one of those other games you got… one of the board games…”

“But there are pieces to the one,” Sabina commented and Adam chuckled. “I think with dad’s help, we can whip it together pretty quick. Plus you really wanted Mouse Trap.”

“And you happened to get it for me,” Sabina sat down at the table and clapped her hands.

Walter eased away and headed towards the table, slightly frustrated because he had told Nikita not to worry about dinner, that he had everything under control. She should be in that living room enjoying her family. It was part of his Christmas gift to Nikita since she decided to have such a large group over for dinner.

Walking firmly into the kitchen, Walter watched as Nikita was doing something with sweet potatoes and it was obvious that she had finished something else as the sink was full of dishes. “Sugar… what are you doing?”

“I remembered that Tom doesn’t really like pineapple so I found this other recipe for the sweet potatoes… and it takes longer to bake,” Nikita explained as she picked up the pieces that she had cut and dropped them into the dish.

“I’m making dinner,” Walter stated as he looked at Nikita. She paused and glanced all around him, but didn’t look directly at him. “You made breakfast for us, Walter.”

“I like cooking, Sugar,” Walter pointed out as he stepped into the kitchen and frowned. “Why are you hiding in here and not enjoying your family?”

It was clear that Nikita was thinking about lying to him. Walter knew her that well but she stopped and pushed her hands against her side. “Sabina almost got everything that she wanted for Christmas.”

“Well, the girl didn’t need everything on the list…. But I don’t think she is missing anything,” Walter commented and Nikita pulled out a chair and sat down. She looked really pale and Walter tilted his head to the side. “Sugar?”

“She didn’t get what she really wanted,” Nikita rasped as she was blinking back tears. Walter was looking at her and she wasn’t sure that she wanted to tell Walter. She had to tell Walter. “She wanted a baby brother or sister.”

“That isn’t for her to want,” Walter snapped as he crossed his arms over his chest. “She is a little girl. You and Michael would have to want to have a baby.”

“Correct that,” Nikita turned her head to the side. “I’m the one that would want to have one.”

Walter rolled his shoulders back as he realized that Michael did want to have another child with Nikita. And this surely wasn’t something to have to be worrying about on Christmas. “So… you don’t…”

Nikita shrugged her shoulders as she squeezed her knees with her hands. “She came running into the bedroom this morning… and had her hand down on my stomach… something I didn’t even do when I was pregnant with her…”

Walter moved closer to Nikita and then paused as she shook her head. “Please… don’t make me go back out there… not right now… because since she did that… I’ve been on the brink of a PTSD flash… and I don’t want that… not today… so I have to be in here… doing something… away from thinking about what happened this morning… and now she touched me… and how I know that Michael wants to touch me when he gets me to have another baby… a way… that I wanted to do… but couldn’t…”

Nikita started to gasped and Walter moved closer and simply touched her shoulder. She took a hand up and grasped that hand and squeezed it, willing herself to stay right there and not battle a flash, not during the holiday. He stood there for a long time, just being there as Nikita continued to hold onto him. It was as her hand fell that Walter cleared his throat. “You don’t need to be in here, Sugar…”

Nikita dropped her head as Walter stepped away a bit. “Please… I will go be with my family soon enough… others will be here… just let me help in here until they come…”

Walter reached out his hand and Nikita fretted. She stood up and took it. Walter pulled her into a bear hug and wrapped her lithe frame up with his strong body. “You need to be right here… in my hug… knowing that you are fine... and you are going to enjoy this holiday… and you are fine just the way you are, Sugar….”

Nikita melted into tears, but she wasn’t having a flash. Walter squeezed her tighter as he glanced up to see Michael in the doorway. He didn’t move to step in. Michael retreated. Walter had this under control and he continued to hold Nikita. “You can’t do things just because it is what Sabina wants… and that is the right decision to make… you are her mother and you know what is right for all of you… and right now… you just need my hug, Sugar… you are just right here… right now…”
