“Jason… what have you found?” Michael asked as he walked into the study. Jason lifted his head. “Nothing.”

“Nothing?” Michael stopped and blinked his eyes. “There has to be something.”

“None of Nikita’s systems that she gave me control of has an alert or notification on it,” Jason outlined and Michael frowned. He didn’t like to think that Nikita was still hiding stuff from him, although he was sure that was the case because he was still doing the same. But still. “Where are the personnel files on this Erica and Logan… I don’t recall them.”

“We don’t have those records,” Jason looked back at the computer screen. “Not part of the records about Section that I kept because I assumed that they were dead.”

“Who was dead?” Walter asked as he walked into the room. Michael looked at Walter and frowned. “Erica and Logan.”

“They were killed on a mission,” Walter nodded his head up and down. Michael shook his head. “No. According to Nikita she got them out… and Erica has somehow contacted her… I guess some sort of distress call.”

“I would never have someone who was supposed to have died before I was told to disband Section on another system….” Jason commented as he looked at Walter. “You knew them better than I did.”

“Because Logan would talk to me when Sugar was… busy,” Walter shook his head as he sat down on the edge of the desk. “Logan… he was green… and Erica… she was a machine of sorts… but she softened… when she allowed herself to feel things… a lot like you…”

“That must be why she got them out,” Michael commented and Walter shook his head. “She was careful, Michael. She wasn’t a rebel once she took control. That’s why she was given the opportunity to disband Section the way that she did… they would have never allowed her to do that if they knew that she got someone else out other than you.”

“They knew of me,” Michael dryly commented and Jason choked slightly. “Officially? No.”

“But anyone who knew both of you… the stories didn’t match,” Walter finished and Michael turned in a circle. “This still doesn’t get me more knowledge on Erica and Logan. And how Nikita got contacted… and what the next steps are.”

“Next steps are to find where the both of them had been… what they had been doing… and absolutely not to contact Erica in the way that she wanted to be recontacted,” Jason assessed.

“And don’t let Tom know what is going on,” Walter grimly stated.

“Hiding something?” Tom questioned from the doorway. Michael turned and looked at the man. “Why are you here?”

“I could see that the troops were gathering,” Tom stated as he looked at Walter and the older man turned his head away. “I wouldn’t hurt Nikita for something that she has done in the past, Walter.”

“But there are things that you are better off not knowing about.”

“I didn’t know the inner workings of what went on… I didn’t know a lot about Section,” Tom commented and Michael looked back at Walter. Walter tilted his head and cleared his throat. “I got to protect my Sugar.”

“She did things that you don’t know about, Walter. If she was able to hide a pregnancy… from everyone, she did other things too,” Tom pointed out as he shoved his hands into his jeans. “There are things that I hope that she did.”

“Like get people out before she was given the ok to do so?” Jason asked and Tom nodded his head. “We suspected Michael. A few others. That’s why we trusted her to close Section.”

“Erica and Logan,” Michael spoke the names. Tom smiled and nodded his head. “I was hoping that they were out. They were innocents… and in love. Logan was wicked smart with people… analytical about what they would do. Erica… while she was a great warrior…she was a better teacher.”

“She wouldn’t have been the only person in power to get someone out,” Walter commented and Tom nodded his head. “Obviously you know about Madeline’s brother.”

“Madeline didn’t have a brother,” Michael commented and Walter cleared his throat. “Yeah… she did… I helped…”

“And I thought that my father said that he was surprised that Adrian hadn’t gotten you out yourself, Walter,” Tom stated and Walter paled. “I wouldn’t let her. I knew… I was to be there. Michael was a recruit… Birkoff was just starting his teenaged years… someone had to keep the young ones alive.”

Michael walked to the window as the men continued to debate the issues. He pressed his hand against the glass, trying to figure out what was next. Jason’s plan was right, but Nikita had kept them out.

“What the hell…” Jason rasped and then slapped the table. “I… I… I got something… and I don’t know…”

Michael looked up at the ceiling. Nikita must have not gone to sleep. Michael peered out the window as Jason started to type and slapped his hand again. “I got their records… and I’m printing… so you can read…”

“I don’t need that,” Walter grumbled. “They were like Michael and Nikita. If Erica is alone… there is a huge reason why… or they are smart enough to not have both of them contact Nikita… which is what I would do.”

“But does it tell us how Erica made contact?” Michael asked as he was sure that Nikita didn’t give over that information. Not until she figured out what she thought she needed to do next. She held all of the cards and they were just playing catch up. Michael couldn’t get a step in front of her when he didn’t know where she was going.

“Michael?” Nikita’s voice spoke from the doorway. Michael turned to find Nikita standing there, her hair wet from a shower, looking so very tired. While he was glad that Jason was getting information now, he really wished that Nikita would have found a way to sleep. “Can we talk?”

“I thought you wanted to sleep,” Michael rasped as he closed his eyes, knowing that he was taking a shot at Nikita for no reason. This is what he wanted. He wanted to talk to Nikita. But he lashed out against her.

“I was wrong about that,” Nikita reached her hand out and Michael crossed the room, forgetting about everyone else.

“I’m back… to myself,” Nikita whispered as she felt her hand being wrapped up by Michael’s. She seemed to relax right into his body and Michael moved to the stairs, knowing that they were going to talk.

And then hopefully sleep.
