Nikita pushed her hands forward as she sat near Mick’s bed, tortured by the events of the day. She had her hopes dashed when Mick woke up the next time and barely even remembered her and clearly didn’t remember Michael. Then he went to sleep and when he woke up, he was terrified of Michael once woken. But this last time, Mick had seen them both together and starting talking about seeing her.

“Nikita… he has had a brain injury… it is natural for things to be very confusing and they kept him a coma for a while to help him heal… we should wait a few more days before listening to anything that he is saying,” Ellie softly spoke as she looked over at Nikita. She was aging before her and Ellie sighed. She worried that Nikita would slid into having PSTD flashes with what she was dealing with right now and Ellie had found others agreeing with her. While Mick wasn’t left alone, neither was Nikita.

“Where is Michael?” Nikita inquired and Ellie looked over her shoulder and then back to Nikita. “He was on his way back. He was picking Davenport up at the airport…”

“We’ll figure this out… because Mick saw our daughter,” Nikita held onto that belief. Ellie had fed into the belief that first time that Mick woke and saw them. His voice was so strong and convicted. But each time he woke up, that had faded, until just an hour ago. Ellie knew that she was on a rollercoaster and she knew that Nikita was on one too. “Nikita…”

Nikita shook her head slightly from side to side. “We are going to find what he was doing here… and we are going to find her.”

“Kita,” Michael spoke from the doorway. Nikita turned her head and held back her tears. “He couldn’t let Ellie send him home… because he knew, Michael.”

“You need a break,” Michael stepped forward as he squatted down in front of Nikita and took her hands into his hands. “Davenport can spend some time in here… while he does some research on the computer…”

“Jason is looking… but we all know that Mick wasn’t one who liked the computer for much more than internet dating,” Nikita protested but she moved as Michael stood up. She found comfort inside of Michael’s arms and her mind swarm with thoughts.

“There is a night diner across the street,” Ellie stated and Michael looked towards Nikita’s face. “You look like you could use a milkshake… and maybe a burger…”

Nikita’s face wrinkled up as she shook her head. “I’m not hungry.”

“We won’t find her if you are too weak to think straight, Kita,” Michael chided Nikita gently as he continued to guide Nikita in her shuffling walk out of the room. Davenport slapped Michael’s shoulder as he shook his head from side to side slightly, indicating that he knew nothing more in those few minutes that he had called back to Jason to check on progress.

Michael found it easy to guide Nikita once they were on the elevator. She didn’t protest leaving the hospital and Michael thought that he would get something achieved until he walked into the diner with Nikita and found Tom and Laura sitting in a booth with a laptop.

“About time you came over to sample some of the fine food here… it should be on that show on the Food Network…” Tom spoke as he got up and sat next to Laura so Michael could guide Nikita into the booth. Michael would have preferred to be alone with Nikita, but Nikita was pulling out of the fog that she had been in and would have argued if Michael tried to take her to a separate booth.

Michael reached over to the side and slapped a menu down in front of Nikita. “You order first.”

Nikita pushed it away and shook her head. “I’m not hungry.”

“Then I’ll order for you,” Michael grumbled as he knew that Nikita had to be hungry. The waitress came over and Michael looked at the menu and had to think fast. “We’ll have two Fried Bologna Sandwiches with extra cheese… one with onion rings and one with fries… “

Michael glanced at Nikita and then looked back at the waitress. “One peanut butter milkshake and a coffee.”

Quickly they were left alone at the table and Nikita looked at Laura. “What was Mick doing here?”

“He had been in the city for a while…” Laura revealed and Nikita rubbed her elbows. “But he didn’t have a hotel room.”

“He wasn’t staying in the same hotel each night… but he had been in Salt Lake City for over a week. But he wasn’t paying often with credit card for things… we only have cash withdrawals,” Laura sighed and Tom cleared his throat. “There are a lot of leads for Todd Hunter out here too… almost too many to cover in a short amount of time.”

“We aren’t leaving,” Nikita declared and Michael looked at Laura before he reached over and pushed the laptop lid almost all the way down. “No more until we eat.”

Nikita protested but the milk shake was delivered. Michael watched as Nikita licked her lips, despite the fact that she reported that she wasn’t hungry. Michael was thankful that the shake came first because it would help her eat.

Under the careful eye of the entire table, Nikita ate the majority of her sandwich, some onion rings and some fries. The milk shake was easily gone.

With a glass of water now in her hands, Nikita seemed to have pulled it together as she looked at the laptop. She was in thought and Michael was not going to push her right now. She needed to process whatever was in her mind.

“We need access to the car. It hasn’t been destroyed, has it?” Nikita questioned as she looked at Tom. Tom swung his head from side to side. “No… it’s evidence…”

“But we need to get in,” Nikita stated as if it was nothing. “There could be a computer card in that card that tracked where Mick was that can help us identify where he was spending his time… or maybe some notes that Mick had…”

“Its police evidence,” Laura pointed out and Nikita shrugged her shoulders. “So?”

“Please… don’t get that way with me,” Laura swung her head slightly. “Remember… I believed in upholding the law.”

“And I need to find my daughter,” Nikita bluntly stated, making it clear that there was no person that was going to stand in her way if there was a possibility that something in that car pointed to where Mick may have seen her daughter.

Tom squeezed Laura’s hand as he looked at Michael and then Nikita. “I’ll make it possible… but I have to wait until morning.”

Nikita started to protest until Michael touched her chin. “Kita… you need to rest… and sleep. This can wait until morning.”

Nikita turned towards Michael. “She has always been out there, Michael… but now… we know.”

Michael nodded his head but he wasn’t so sure. He had heard Mick completely forget him. He hoped that this was the truth that Mick was remembering. But it would do no good to try to get more information from Mick right now. “Kita… it is going to take time.”

Nikita started to talk and then stopped. The tears started to fall out of her eyes. They had been threatening for such a long time and Michael was surprised that Nikita had held them off so long. He tucked her head against his shoulder as he rubbed Nikita’s back.

Tom paid for the meal and looked across at Michael. “There is a hotel next door… not the top line hotel… but it had some beds. I booked rooms.”
