Nikita pushed the water glass around the desk and then turned her head as Michael walked back into the room with an ice bucket and a couple sodas. Nikita shook her head at the one that Michael had offered to her. She looked back at the computer and then back to Michael.

They were looking for other living arrangements for the moment. Mick was still refusing to allow them to move him back to home and this hotel was getting to be too small. They all had rooms in the one corner, but it didn’t give them the space that they needed.

Not that Nikita had seen Tom, Laura or Davenport in a couple days now.

Nikita gasped as she stood up. “They found her.”

Michael placed the bucket down and pulled out his phone and then looked at Nikita. “How do you know that? Did they call while I was out?”

“They had been avoiding us,” Nikita pointed out as she looked at Michael. “And they suggested we find a house.”

Michael turned away from Nikita, shaking his head. “You don’t know that, Kita.”

“I might not know it… but I feel it,” Nikita announced as Michael could tell that she was not going to let this one go. He moved into the bathroom and leaned forward, pulling in air. It was so hard right now. He was a huge ball of conflict and he didn’t dare let Nikita see that.

He stayed in that bathroom for a long time, just not able to face Nikita with her declarations at the moment. Michael was struggling and didn’t have anyone to talk to about that struggle. He had almost asked Walter to fly out, but couldn’t. Adam was with Walter.

Yet, it was a phone call from Davenport that they were stopping up that brought Michael out of the bathroom.

As Nikita opened the door, her heart started to race. All of them were there – Davenport, Tom, Laura and Ellie. “You found her.”

Michael tilted his head as he observed the faces all tense, not expecting what Nikita had said. Michael panicked. “Nikita has believed that you have been avoiding us because you found our daughter.”

Ellie turned and closed the door and Davenport stepped forward. He handed a small sample bag forward to Michael. “This is probably enough to get the proof.”

Nikita gasped as she looked at the bag and then up at Davenport. “You found her?”

“Mick found her,” Tom stated and Nikita looked at Laura. “I need to see a picture… I need to see her…”

Laura looked around and shook her head slightly. “You should get the DNA, Nikita.”

“No,” Nikita shook her head. “You know that she is our daughter for a reason… you saw her and knew… I’d know the same thing.”

Turning over the phone, Laura didn’t let Nikita completely take it. But Nikita stared at the eyes and blinked. It was like she was looking in the mirror. And the hair, that was Michael. But there were other things about her that was Michael. Nikita trembled and stepped away. “Oh my god… that’s her…”

Michael looked at the picture from where he was and was pulled closer.

The Perch was dark as Nikita rolled her head to the side. There were three important missions in action right now, but she just wanted to sit down. Everyone was scattered around Section, working on their parts and Nikita was isolated above, like she had been for months.

She glanced at the computer screen and could see the tracking dot on Mick Schtoppel. He was exactly where she had anticipated that he would be at this time and she knew that it would be important information to have.

The ripple of pain radiated down her spin and through to her slightly distended stomach. Nikita placed her hands down on the roll of her stomach and exhaled as tears rolled out of her eyes. In the months since that night on the bridge, Nikita had worked hard to not think about Michael. She always had, but she had done a good job forcing herself not to want him to be there – until now.

Their child was going to be born. She was alone in The Perch, in what she considered to be hell, during a time that should be a happy moment. She felt the tremendous guilt for not being able to tell Michael and knew that the level of guilt that she felt right at that moment would only be toppled by the guilt that she would feel when she would send the baby out of Section.

She did not even plan on holding the baby.

Nikita sat down as she exhaled. It would be too early to call Walter. She had read enough about labor and knew that she was just starting labor. To tell Walter too soon would be dangerous. He would find a way to talk Nikita into keeping the baby or trying to tell her that it would be safe to somehow get the child to Michael. During a time that the pregnancy hormones would be more in charge than her rational mind, Nikita couldn’t give Walter that opportunity. He would not be called until she was ready to push.

As Nikita force her eyes to close, she felt the wetness that indicated that her water broke.

Michael grabbed Nikita’s shoulders as he could feel the memory flood her body. “It’s ok, Kita… they found our daughter.”

Nikita blinked her eyes rapidly, still not shedding a tear. She looked at the envelope that was in Michael’s hand and cleared her throat. “We have to go home and run that sample.”

No one spoke and Nikita squeezed her eyes shut, not to avoid tears, but in the hopes that she could hold off the PTSD.

”Sugar… why didn’t you tell me? A long time ago!” Walter exclaimed as Nikita rode through the contraction and looked up at Walter. “I need to deliver this baby now, Walter.”

“Hell, Sugar… we should go to medical! I’m not a doctor! What if something…”

“No one will know. Ever,” Nikita hissed as she pushed her body up and looked at Walter. “You need to be ready to get this baby, Walter. I’m pushing…”

“Wait! You don’t know if that is right…”

“I’ve been in labor for almost a whole day, Walter.”

“You were running missions,” Walter pointed out and he tilted his head to the side. “No…”

“I only have a couple hours to have this baby, have you get it out of here, and be back to normal for a meeting with The Centre…. Now get ready to deliver this baby, Walter,” Nikita commanded as the pains washed over her body and Nikita started to bare down. It was with Nikita’s determination to start pushing that had Walter jump to action. When Nikita was determined, she could do anything.

“Oh… it’s crowning, Sugar… you are having a baby….” Walter whispered gently. He jerked his head up and looked at Nikita. “Please tell me that it is absolutely Michael’s and you didn’t just say that…”

“Walter,” Nikita looked at him with a face that she hoped told him that the only person she would ever think of having a child with in this situation was Michael. She would only risk her entire life in bringing a life into the world because it was Michael’s child.

Moments later, Walter lifted the baby up with tears in his eyes. “Sugar… it’s a girl… it’s a girl…”

Nikita pulled away from Michael’s grasp and moved to the window of the hotel room to glance outside. “We should leave now… Michael needs to make the claim for her from home…”

“What?” Davenport asked and Nikita turned to look at him, her eyes ready to burst with tears but she held them back. “If Todd Hunter found out that Michael was in town… he’d take off and hide her… he would consider this a threat.”

“No,” Davenport snapped as he shook his head. “You said that Michael will claim her. Why wouldn’t both of you?”

Nikita looked at Michael. “I want her with us as quickly as possible… if I make a claim to be her mother… it will slow things down. Mothers have already come forward… so there will be lots of questions… in the past two years, for all of the children impacted… only fathers have come forward now.”

Michael stepped forward and shook his head violently from side to side. “Then we find a way for this to happen, Kita. You are her mother and that’s what you will be.”

“I’ll be your fiancé… and I’ll be her stepmother… just like I am for Adam… and knowing that she is safe… will be enough,” Nikita’s voice cracked but still she kept the tears back. She swallowed hard as Michael shook his head from side to side still. “No. There has to be another way.”

“No one else is protesting, Michael,” Nikita whispered as she looked around the room. “They saw the history of the other children… the one mother who tried to gain custody after the fact didn’t win her case… because the courts thought she should have come forward a long time ago… I can’t risk that… and I want to do this on the up-and-up as much as we can.”

Nikita rubbed her freezing hands together and Laura cleared her throat. “Maybe my father can get in touch with Todd…”

“No,” Nikita shook her head from side to side. “That poses a risk that he would go deeper into hiding… This gets us her back. Michael can be her father. I’m ok being the stepmother.”

“No,” Michael protested and Nikita stepped forward. She cupped his cheek. “We are wasting time now that we have found her. We make sure that she is ours… and you go claim her… Davenport will stay here in town to be sure that it doesn’t spook Todd Hunter… So we need to go home. Because this is the fastest and safest way.”

Nikita felt the PTSD flash coming again as she walked to the back of the room, the tears now falling from her face that she wasn’t facing anyone. She had to get her daughter back and that meant not being her mother.

Nikita was ok with that.

Nikita closed the bathroom door and barely had the time to lurch over the toilet bowl before her stomach purged. She clung onto that cold porcelain as she kept on hearing in her mind Walter telling her that she had a girl.
