“It was so odd, Lisa,” Adam whispered as he looked around the den where they were pretending to be playing a video game. “One minute this woman was clear… she knew everything and the next minute… it was like she forgot who she was.”

“They told you that Nikita’s grandmother has Alzheimer's,” Lisa replied as she dropped the controller, finding it hard that Adam was winning when he wasn’t even trying. “Did you rewrite this game or something?”

“What?” Adam asked as he looked at Lisa and then back to the television. “I didn’t even want to play… I just wanted to talk.”

“And Rhoda wanted us to be in here,” Lisa stated as she rolled her eyes and sighed. “Look… I know that it has to be odd to have Nikita’s grandmother around.”

“She told us to call her Winnie,” Adam stated as he leaned back against the couch. “She was only there yesterday.”

“Does that help anyone?”

“Yeah,” Adam nodded his head up and down. “Nikita came out of the room.”

Lisa smiled brightly. “That’s what you wanted, right?”

Adam looked away and swallowed. “Do you know that some believe that Alzheimer’s is inherited?”

“What?”

“What if Nikita gets like Winnie? Do you know all the things that she knows that would be bad to come out because she has Alzheimer’s?” Adam questioned as he shook his head. “And my sister… she could have it.”

“Ah, Adam… you are really jumping the gun on this,” Lisa spoke and Adam frowned. “It doesn’t mean that I don’t think about it.”

“It’s just not you,” Lisa shrugged her shoulders. “You are about actions.”

“You think,” Adam rolled his eyes. “Actions have to be planned.”

Lisa stood up and turned off the video game. “I thought you wanted to come here and play games today, Adam. I’m not here for you to just talk to about stuff you don’t want to talk to others about.”

“Who am I supposed to talk to?” Adam complained as he shook his head. “My dad has his hands full with Nikita… everyone is busy with her.”

Lisa tilted her head to the side as she narrowed her eyes. “Adam, just the other day you were complaining that no one was doing anything for Nikita. Now they don’t have time for you? I don’t understand this at all. I think it’s childish.”

Adam crossed his arms along his chest. “What?”

“You are acting like a child,” Lisa declared as she stood there. “And I don’t like it.”

“Like you always act like an adult,” Adam huffed as he stood up. “It can’t always be about what you want, Lisa. The world doesn’t evolve around you all the time. Sometimes it can be about what is bothering me and not what is bothering you all the time.”

Lisa was stunned as she stood there. She didn’t have words. She was so angry that her friend was doing this to her right now. She felt the sting of tears and didn’t say a word. She left the room.

Adam groaned as Lisa left and he went after her. “Lisa… come on… let’s talk about this.”

“You don’t want to talk about it,” Lisa shouted as she walked into the kitchen and stood near Rhoda. “I think you should leave.”

“What’s going on?” Rhoda asked and Adam stood there, rooted in his spot as he looked at Lisa. Lisa glared back and Rhoda cleared her throat. “I asked a question.”

“Ask him.”

“No, ask her.”

“Just leave, Adam. You aren’t wanted here,” Lisa growled and Adam tossed his hands in the air. “Fine!”

Rhoda waited as Adam stormed out of the house. She glanced at Lisa as she shifted her weight from side to side. Rhoda went to the freezer and pulled out the ice cream that was for later. It seemed right for now. “Get a spoon.”

Lisa blinked in confusion. “What?”

“Ice cream will make this easier… we don’t have to talk about what happened between you and Adam.”

“Nothing happened,” Lisa defensively spoke and Rhoda put the ice cream down and pulled out the spoons. “So.. we will just eat some ice cream.”

Lisa watched as Rhoda offered her the spoon. She took it out of her hand and took some of the offered ice cream. She ate while pushing back tears that she didn’t want to talk about.
