Nikita sat there in the kitchen and stared at the phone. As she had been doing for the past hour after Tom and Laura didn’t show up at the appointed time this morning after Walter had taken Adam out for breakfast and a tour of a local museum. But Adam had been grumpy and made Walter bring him back right after breakfast.

Michael sat down again and looked at Nikita. Her jaw was tense and she forced herself away from the table, while still glaring at the phone. “They aren’t calling either.”

“Kita…” Michael whispered as he was tempted to take her hand, but he could see the anger brewing inside of her. In that instant, Nikita lashed out and slammed her hand against the phone and caused it to fly across the room. “Did that make you feel better?”

Nikita stood up and walked out of the room. Michael dropped his chin to his chest and then took a deep breath before standing up. There was only one thing to do and that was to follow Nikita. “Kita… I’m sorry.”

“Why didn’t they listen to us? I know what I’m doing,” Nikita questioned as she turned to look at Michael. Michael shrugged his shoulders slightly and saw that it annoyed Nikita. He wasn’t going to be able to say that he didn’t know. “It’s hard to let someone else be in control.”

“This isn’t about me being used to being in control,” Nikita shook her head from side to side. “This is about at least telling us the truth. The truth about what they are doing right now.”

“They are probably going to approach Hunter,” Michael stated and Nikita lifted her chin slightly. “It’s not wise.”

“It is,” Michael whispered as he sighed. “I would do it if I was in their shoes.”

Nikita blinked her eyes and turned out of the hallway and upstairs. Michael leaned his hand against the banister and shook his head as she stomped up the stairs. When Tom and Laura didn’t arrive, it took Michael some time to figure out what was going on. Then it all started to make sense and once Michael thought about it, it made sense.

“What’s wrong with her?” Adam asked as he walked down the stairs and Michael rolled his eyes. “Come on, Dad… I don’t always know everything that is going on.”

“Have you talked to Lisa yet?” Michael turned the conversation around right now. He saw the frustration in Adam’s eyes as he shook his head from side to side. “You don’t fight fair.”

“Neither do you,” Michael pointed out as he looked at his son. “We talked about how you can make things right between you and Lisa again.”

Adam jumped down onto the hallway and shook his head as he was now just a couple inches smaller than his dad. “Maybe I don’t want to talk to her again.”

“Oh?” Michael asked as he shook his head. “That’s why you had Walter bring you back.”

“I came back to try to find out what is going on. Nikita put up all walls again,” Adam huffed and Michael didn’t doubt that Adam was trying to hack into Nikita’s systems, but that wasn’t the full truth. Adam had been glum until he finally told his father about what had happened with Lisa.

“You have to let me and Nikita work through these things, Adam. You are my son and you don’t have to get involved.”

“April is my sister.”

“Half-sister,” Michael rasped as he was still stunned with how protective Adam continued to be about his and Nikita’s daughter. It was like she had been plucked out of their hands and Adam had known her from birth with how focused he was on this. Never did Adam think about what having a half-sister would mean to his life. Michael also feared that once April did come to live with them that Adam would have a large culture shock there and things would be bumpy.

“They went off grid,” Adam shrugged his shoulders as he moved into the living room. Michael turned for a moment before stepping towards the living room. “What?”

“Tom and Laura. They were on the grid in Memphis and then disappeared. Her father flew in there too…disappeared also,” Adam shrugged his shoulders. “Nikita will know… probably has figured it out by now. It was information I was able to get from being into some of her system.”

Michael rubbed his forehead and he shook his head. He was able to go up to Nikita but he turned back to Adam. “Stop it, Adam. You aren’t an operative and while I showed you some of these things… it isn’t right. Just stop.”
