Adam didn’t turn to see Lisa walk out on the porch. He knew that it was her by sensing her walking into the house moments ago. Adam wasn’t ready to handle this situation. His father was on his way home with Nikita and his sister, April. They would be home in about two hours and Adam wanted to think about that right now.

Not Lisa.

“I heard that your half-sister is on her way home,” Lisa spoke as she sat down on the stairs near Adam. Adam rolled his eyes. “April is my sister.”

Lisa pressed her lips together as it was clear that Adam was still upset. Lisa tilted her head and cleared her throat. “Look, Adam… I’m sorry about the other day.”

“It was nothing.”

Lisa groaned. “Obviously it was something. You are still mad at me.”

“Sometimes things aren’t just all about you,” Adam snapped as he shook his head from side to side. “I don’t want to talk about this right now.”

Lisa didn’t back off. She looked at Adam’s head and slapped her legs. “Life doesn’t always let us pick when we talk about things. Hiding from things doesn’t fix them. At least, that’s what Rhoda told me.”

But Adam didn’t respond. He kept his head turned away and he wasn’t going to reply to Lisa. “Rhoda said that you might be confused about what is going on with your half-sister.”

“She is my sister,” Adam corrected with terse words. He turned to glare at Lisa. “I don’t want to correct you again.”

“I just want to be your friend, Adam,” Lisa softly replied as she looked at his face that showed that he was trying really hard at being angry at her.

“What do you need, Lisa?” Adam inquired with a tilt of his head. “Are you worried about school? Or is your computer broke since you haven’t tried to contact me? I’m sure that you are here for something for yourself.”

“I am here to tell you that I was wrong,” Lisa admitted with a rasp on her voice. She didn’t need Adam being mean right now. “You were right to tell me that I was being selfish… because a lot of the things we did together were because I needed something… or because I liked something. I was thinking about myself and you were right to point that out to me.”

Adam jerked his head away as he was stunned with what Lisa had said. He had a couple conversions with his father and Nikita before they went to get April and they had told Adam that he had probably blind-sided Lisa with what he had said. He knew that he had been harsh but he wasn’t ready to back down. “I accept your apology.”

Lisa nodded her head but she stood up to lean against the railing. “But you aren’t ready to talk to me.”

“I have a lot of other things on my mind,” Adam admitted as he rubbed his hands together. “My sister is coming home.”

“I’ll leave… and try to web chat with you tonight… but can I ask you one thing before I leave?” Lisa inquired and Adam groaned. He was going to have to do this because Lisa wasn’t about to just leave this easily. “What is it?”

“You are excited for your sister to come home… but you are out here because of something else. Are you scared that she isn’t going to like you?” Lisa posed the question. Adam jerked his head and his legs started to tap. “I’m not going to answer that, Lisa. It isn’t going to be an issue.”

Lisa shrugged her shoulders as she stood a couple steps up. “I wouldn’t worry about it, Adam. April is going to adore you… she is probably going to look up at you like you are some sort of rock star for a while… she is going to love you because you’re a cool guy.”

Adam closed his eyes and swallowed hard. “Are you sure of that?”

“You are pretty cool… even when you are being stubborn and not talking to me,” Lisa answered with a shrug of her shoulders. She got the back door and turned back to see that Adam was still staring out into the yard. “Please let me know how things are going with April tonight, Adam. I miss how we chat.”

“Maybe,” Adam relented and Lisa smiled.

Adam would be chatting with her tonight.

Rhoda had told Lisa that Adam might take a while to turn around after she apologized, but if he was a good friend, they would work things out. Adam was Lisa’s one friend so it had to work out.
