Adam heard the moment that April arrived in the house from his room, not that he hadn’t seen the car pull up. He had been tracking his father and Nikita since they landed at the airport. He had seen a glimpse of his sister and he couldn’t help but smile.

Nikita watched as April’s mouth dropped open as she entered the house. She hadn’t slept on the plane and had almost constantly chatted since they started towards home. Todd was on the way to a nearby hotel and they offered for Todd to stay in their house, but he wouldn’t take them up on the offer. Nikita knew that this silence was short-lived.

“Is that a Wii?” April turned around as she turned away from looking at the living room. Nikita didn’t even get to respond. “Wait… that’s a Blue-Ray… and I think that’s a Kinect too!”

“We even have another Wii in the game room downstairs,” Adam spoke as he entered the living room, already really liking his sister. This was going to be fun.

April turned around and blinked her eyes. “You are Adam. Our dad showed me the picture he had of you in his wallet… and then mom showed me some pictures that she had on her phone of you… but she said that she has lots of other photos because you made her start to take pictures.”

That response made Adam’s head spin a bit. He felt his dad put his hand on his shoulder to indicate to just take things in stride right now. Adam couldn’t help but wonder if April was like this all the way here.

“Yes, I’m Adam. You must be April,” Adam replied with a gentle voice that earned him a gentle squeeze of gratitude from his father.

“Well, that’s my name now… but that isn’t the name that my mom would have named me if she would have been able to keep me… and I’d rather have that name… I want to be Sabine.”

Adam looked back at his father. “That’s grandma’s name…”

“Nikita found it out,” Michael whispered as April moved into the living room and spun around. “This room is so big. The whole house is big…”

Nikita swallowed hard as she smiled at Adam and then looked towards April. “April… remember we decided to stay with April for now…”

“Until you realize that I’m really Sabine,” April rolled her eyes and Adam couldn’t help but snort with laughter. His sister was a hoot!

“Adam…” Michael whispered with another squeeze. Michael was worried about the dynamic between Adam and April. It was important for now for Adam not to react too much to April. She was going thru a lot and everyone thought that this was not her true nature.

“Is that a computer in the dining room?” April inquired as she dashed into the dining room. Michael looked at Adam and he winced. “I forgot to put the laptop back downstairs… I was watching some baseball video… to get better.”

“It is a laptop!” April excitedly chatted as she ran back into the living room. “I never got a chance to play with a Wii… the one home had one… but it had one remote and they locked up the remote so only the older children got to play… and I never had a computer… I have always wanted to work on one… but at school… there were only a few… and when they weren’t broken… all the others were near them… and I didn’t like being near them…”

Nikita rubbed her forehead as Adam walked closer to April. “We have lots of computers… I have a couple… and Nikita has a couple… and my dad… he has a lot.”

“Why do you call mom Nikita?”

Adam swallowed and reached his hand out to April, ready to change the subject. “Actually… I put one of my spare computers in your room… so you have your own computer.”

That did the trick.

“I have a computer! Of my own?” April shouted and Adam nodded his head. “Yes… it might not be the newest…”

“I have my own computer! But I don’t know how to use it,” April declared and Michael reached out for Nikita’s hand. She was fighting a headache and Michael was just thankful that right now that Adam was taking a lead here. They were all going to have to adjust to having April in the house but Adam had done something very nice by giving up one of his computers for his sister to have.

“I can show you how to use it. It really isn’t that hard,” Adam shrugged his shoulders. April started to move. “Show me my room now…”

Nikita stepped forward and squatted. “April… about your room…”

“It has a computer, mom!”

“I know,” Nikita sighed as she rubbed her forehead. “But April… it isn’t all the way done… we weren’t sure if you were going to be coming home with us.”

“It has a computer!”

Nikita rubbed her neck as she reached out and touched April’s face. “But the walls are white… and there is a bed for you… but no pretty sheets or anything…”

“But it has a computer!”

Nikita glanced at Michael and he shook his head from side to side.

“April… remember my friend that I was telling you about… the one that helped us find you who got hurt?” Nikita started and she was rewarded by April just nodding her head up and down. “Well, he is a decorator… but he hasn’t been feeling well enough to help… so we won’t have him to help us figure out your furniture… and what colors… and what to do to make your room special.”

April tilted her head to the side and shrugged her shoulders. “You’ll help me.”

“Me?” Nikita questioned and April nodded her head up and down. “I want you to help me!”

Nikita was overwhelmed again as April wrapped her arms around Nikita’s neck tightly. Adam looked at his dad and Michael stepped forward. “Adam… why don’t you make sure that April knows where her room is…”

“And show me my computer,” April excitedly declared as she bounced away from Nikita.

“I’ll even show you how to turn it on… and how to get on the internet,” Adam reached out to take April’s hand. They were up the stairs when Michael cleared his throat. “Adam… behave yourself.”

“What would I do?” Adam chuckled as he continued up the stairs.

Nikita looked at Michael wearily and instead of standing up, she sat down on the floor. “He is going to make her into a hacker.”

“Maybe then she won’t talk as much,” Michael shook his head as he sat down beside Nikita. “This is will pass, Kita.”

“I can live with it… as long as she hugs me…” Nikita whispered as she rubbed her head in the pain of the headache and smiled with the happiness of the hug.
