“Maybe you need to do that Christmas thing that Adam did,” Davenport spoke as he walked with Michael towards the house. Michael shook his head back and forth. “Nikita would go overboard for Sabina right now.”

Davenport knew that Michael had a point. But he was frustrated for Michael’s sake. “There has to be something.”

“Time,” Michael sighed as he stopped and looked back to Davenport. “You should stay here.”

“Really?” Davenport asked as he looked around and tilted his head to the side. “I do kind of live here.”

“When you aren’t will Ellie,” Michael pointed out. Davenport laughed. “Well, a young girl named Sabine has kind of crimped my lifestyle…”

Michael winced as he knew that Sabina had not respected the door to Davenport’s space the other morning. While she didn’t see anything that she shouldn’t have seen, she had given Davenport and Ellie quite a surprise. “I’m so sorry about that.”

“I’m just kidding,” Davenport chuckled and he looked at the house. He stepped back and sighed. “Walter said to be quiet?”

“I think he might have gotten Nikita to sleep,” Michael admitted as he nodded his head up and down. “If that is the case, I don’t want to wake her up.”

Davenport sighed and rubbed his hands together. “I have to admit, I don’t know how you are getting thru all of this. Nikita hasn’t been herself… Sabina seems like she has had too much sugar all the time and Adam… he is moody.”

“Day by day,” Michael whispered as he swallowed hard. He reached out and punched Davenport’s arm slightly. “You’ll see how it is when you start having your own.”

“Yeah, sure,” Davenport snorted as he walked away and looked at the house. Michael stood outside for a while before entering the house silently. He knew to make some noise as he got upstairs near Sabina’s room.

Walter had texted that Michael needed to come home, be quiet and come to Sabina’s room for Nikita. Before Michael could even reply back, Walter had texted Michael that Sabina was out with Adam, Rhoda and Lisa for ice cream and he had them staying out for a while. Michael wasn’t sure if Adam knew all of that and if not, there would be a price to pay later. But Michael couldn’t worry about that.

As he pushed the door back, he didn’t notice Nikita in Walter’s arms on the floor. He notice the almost neon pink paint that was now on the walls. Walter gently cleared his throat. “She is pretty out, Michael.”

“In this room?” Michael asked as he squatted down to look at Nikita in Walter’s arms. The operative nature that she had wasn’t even kicking in with him talking so it was a huge sign that she was beyond exhausted.

“Has she been having nightmares?” Walter asked and Michael shook his head. “She hasn’t slowed down enough to let herself think things… so the lack of sleep hasn’t been because of flashes or nightmares.”

“Well, I think she may need some time away from your daughter… and never should be allowed to paint again,” Walter stated and Michael rolled his eyes. “Yeah… this is a bit extreme.”

“Mick has some painters who are going to come over tomorrow… said that they have some faux painting that will keep some of this pink, but will put something over it to hide the all the brightness,” Walter explained as Michael shifted and pulled Nikita into his arms.It was time for her to go to bed.

Walter noticed the hitched eyebrow as Michael was confused. Walter got shifted to stand up and sighed. “I texted Mick and sent him some pictures. He may be limited in mobility, but he can still decorate.”

“You’ve been busy,” Michael spoke gently as he started to move out of the room and to their room. Walter hobbled a bit from being on the floor such a long time, but soon was in front of Michael to open the door to their master bedroom. In seconds, Michael had slipped Nikita onto the bed and headed out of the room. “Now… what were you proposing?”

“Did you know that she has been delaying and postponing photography work to be home?” Walter asked. Michael frowned. “I had asked her…”

“You know better,” Walter swung his head slightly from side to side. “I would have thought I would have been afraid of her not spending more time with Sabina… but I think she needs to get to this work. To help balance stuff. This constant role of perfect stay-at-home mother is not working for her.”

Michael sighed and leaned against the wall. “I’ll stay home tomorrow…”

“But that isn’t your biggest worry. In fact, I’m surprised that I have to even mention it…” Walter puzzled and then stopped. “You don’t know.”

“Know what?” Michael rasped his question. Walter frowned. “Nikita talked to someone about Sabina’s intelligence testing… and schools…”

“She wants to go to Adam’s schools. I’m sure that they are going to say she needs the magnet program at Eastfielding…” Michael started to speak but stopped when Walter was shaking his head from side to side. “Not Eastfielding?”

“Mount Moonstone Academy,” Walter stated and Michael jerked. “No.”

Walter pressed his lips together to be silent as Michael pushed away from the wall. He was shaking his head from side to side. “I won’t send her away to school. She just got here with us… and she is staying here… and we aren’t moving there… and I can’t believe that Nikita didn’t tell me!”

Walter sighed and waited for Michael to look at him. “I think she found that out today… but I think it was just confirming a fear… that Sabina is really smart.”

“We can figure something else out…” Michael shook his head from side to side. “I didn’t let Adam skip…”

“I don’t think they are thinking of skipping a grade or two, Michael,” Walter shook his head from side to side. Michael frowned and rubbed his elbows. “We have to talk about our options… Moonstone is out.”

“Well, don’t think that home school is an option,” Walter pointed out as he looked to the closed door. “Nikita needs school to start. Sabina may have needed this time… but Nikita needs a routine.”

Michael nodded his head up and down. “Thank you, Walter.”

“Well, I’ll be over in the morning…”

“Why?”

“Someone has to watch the children… Adam isn’t going to watch Sabina and Nikita has to go to the photo lab,” Walter announced as he walked towards the stairs. He paused and looked at Michael. “She may not be showing it, but I’m sure that she is happy, Michael.”

“It’s amazing how sometimes happy can hurt,” Michael rasped as he pressed hand against the door. Walter had left as Michael stared at the door. He wanted to go back in there, but he had some things to do. He retrieved the phone and then called to hear the test results on Sabina himself while waiting in the hallway for either Nikita to wake up or for their children to come home.
