“Michael, you can’t truly be here because you are concerned about my recovery,” Mick stated as he rolled his eyes from the couch. Michael had showed up for lunch, that he had brought with him and Mick willingly ate lunch. But Michael had been so quiet that it was almost too familiar.
“I haven’t been by,” Michael calmly replied and Mick frowned. Then he chuckled. “This is about Popsicle.”
“What?”
“Are you having problems with Nikita?” Mick asked and Michael shook his head from side to side. “No problems.”
“Really?”
“Mick, I wanted to bring you lunch. I know that recovery can be hard,” Michael spoke and Mick shook his head from side to side. Then he started to laugh. “Oh my…. My Popsicle is too busy with your daughter… that you aren’t getting a something-something on the side.”
Michael turned away as he cleared his throat. “We have children in the house, Mick. We aren’t as free as we could be.”
“But there are ways to take care of that. I know that Sabina has gone out with Adam when he has been with Lisa… so some afternoon delight might be in order. In fact, that’s probably what you should be doing rather than visiting me,” Mick declared as he shifted around on the couch and rolled his head to the side.
“My relationship with Nikita is so much more than…”
“More than sex?” Mick threw the statement out there so casually with a laugh, but stopped when Michael turned to glare at him. Mick swallowed and lifted a hand. “I’m sorry… I just can’t believe that I have to give you advice on this.”
“I’m fine with what I have in my life right now.”
“Then you are neglecting her needs and that isn’t like you,” Mick fired back and then closed his eyes. He was getting too gutsy in this conversation. This still was Michael that he was talking too. “Look… all I’m going to say… create some magic… give Nikita a situation where she can’t say no… get away from the house… and have some one-on-one time.”
Michael moved to the chair and sat down, staring at the dishes that he had to clean up. He lifted his head up slightly and looked at Mick. “This is not why I came here.”
“So I handled a bonus Popsicle issue. Makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something,” Mick shrugged his shoulders but the tone told Michael that this did mean a lot to Mick. He was a man that appeared on the surface to be so one-dimensional, when in reality, he was very multi-faceted.
Michael cleaned up the dishes some and then leaned back in the chair. “You found Sabina… and I hate to be asking you to help on something else…”
“There is no away that you two crazy kids have another kid out there… so I’m not looking for any more kids,” Mick shook his head and the he pointed to Michael. “Especially if it’s with another woman!”
“Mick,” Michael spoke without any strength but Mick sighed with his hands in the air again. “Sorry… that slipped.”
Michael rubbed his hands together as he studied Mick to make sure that he was ready to be serious. “Nikita got a teacher out from Section… worked with the children like Lisa… her name is Reagan.”
“You are looking for a teacher?” Mick frowned as he shook his head. “Adam is fine…”
“Sabina is smart.”
“Who knew?” Mick rolled his eyes as he could remember the girl that he saw in that school. “It’s a crime what was going on with her at that school.”
“Mick,” Michael spoke again as he had more emotion this time. “Without finding Reagan… who has experience with these really intelligent children… we can’t get Sabina into school. And even if we find Reagan, we aren’t sure if we can even get her into the school. The school is too afraid of the test results.”
“And then there is no chance of afternoon delight,” Mick quipped while instantly closing his eyes. He opened one eye and then the next when he saw that Michael wasn’t reacting. “I don’t know how I can help, Michael. I can’t even really walk to the bathroom. I’m not leaving this house to go search for someone.”
“I wasn’t going to ask you to do that,” Michael shook his head slightly from side to side. “But the idea that you had when you were looking for Sabina… visiting schools as a researcher… that might be enough to get you into some conversations with unconventional schooling locations… and that is where we think that Reagan can be working.”
“She may not even be a teacher any longer!”
“It’s not our only effort,” Michael revealed as he shifted. “You can do everything from right here…”
“It’s a long shot…”
“I need to try it,” Michael admitted as he leaned forward. “Because if we can’t find Reagan… our option may be to send Sabina to a school many hours away…”
Mick didn’t know that. He blinked his eyes hard.
“And then you would have a much harder time trying to give me advice about my love life since Nikita would be with her. I think you want to keep this special pastime of yours active.”
Mick blinked and then laughed. “My god… you made a good joke, Michael!”
