“I don’t blame my Popsicle for that reaction,” Mick shook his head from side to side while he watched Walter pace back and forth in the room. “How could you think that was good?”

“I was abandoned!” Walter defended and Mick rolled his eyes. “You knew that I wasn’t staying.”

“You went off with that woman…”

“Helen?” Mick questioned with a groan. “I didn’t leave for fun, Walter.”

“Sure, sure, sure,” Walter shook his head as he rolled his eyes. “I know what was going on last night. It surely wasn’t for children to be around.”

“You have no idea,” Mick bitterly spoke as he swallowed hard. “And it isn’t your business.”

Walter stopped and turned to look at Mick. “What? Mick Schtoppel isn’t spilling all the details in embarrassing detail? That’s wrong.”

“That hasn’t been my way for a long time,” Mick huffed as he shifted and then leaned back against the couch. “Things didn’t work out.”

“What?” Walter questioned and Mick frowned. “It wasn’t right between me and Helen. And it’s hard… she was helping out around here.”

“You told her to stop helping?”

“How many ex-girlfriends would you like helping you take a shower and such, Walter?” Mick snapped as he groaned and looked away. He grew quiet as he noticed that Walter sat down with shock. “I’ve changed, Walter…. I guess even before I got hurt…. I was growing up in ways.”

“Uh?”

“I want stability… I want commitment… hell, I want children like Michael and Nikita. And I didn’t want that with Helen,” Mick declared as he didn’t look at Walter. “I absolutely knew that last night when I spent time with Sabina. I couldn’t hide my feelings any longer.”

Walter stayed quiet and then he cleared his throat. “I’m sorry Mick.”

“I’m not sorry,” Mick turned to look at Walter. “It was the right thing to do.”

Walter sighed and then looked around the house. “So… if Helen isn’t around to help you…”

“I can do a lot of things.”

“But not everything, Mick,” Walter pointed out and Mick nodded his head. “I know… and Helen contacted the nurses association… they’ll try to find me someone steady… but I’ll have to deal with who they can get me for a couple days.”

“Strangers?” Walter questioned as he rolled his eyes. “You should have just waited a few more weeks.”

“It wasn’t right,“ Mick hissed and he rolled his shoulders back. “The deal is that I have to know the nurse two hours before they are to arrive. Jason has promised me priority background checks.”

“That’s good,” Walter sighed as he looked around. “Do you need anything now?”

“I need you to keep this between us… Michael and Nikita have a lot going on.”

“Sugar is going to figure this out sooner than later,” Walter warned and Mick nodded his head. “Yep… Popsicle will probably figure it out once she sees me… but she won’t see me until she has gotten Reagan to be Sabina’s teacher. That’s what has to happen first.”

Walter dropped his head as he shook it. “And I changed their plans because of that… awful… thing I did with Sabina.”

“Sabina has probably already forgiven you…”

“It’s Nikita…”

“No,” Mick interrupted with a quick laugh. “It’s Michael you have to worry about, Walt.”

“A mind like an elephant.”

“I won’t tell him you said that,” Mick rolled his eyes as he shifted again. “There is something to drink in the refrigerator. Why don’t you stay here for a while?”

“Is it that sissy drink stuff? You know that I don’t like wine coolers.”

“It’s Miller Lite,” Mick declared with a groan again, not sure why he was letting Walter stay, but knew that it would make the day easier.
