Nikita was tired, but it felt good to get some of the photography that she had been neglected done after visiting Mick. She was still going to need to get more time back in the studio to catch up, but for now, she would have to take what she got until school started.

But as she entered the house, the noise level was louder than normal and she could feel the tension from the front door.

“I don’t want you to leave!” Adam shouted loudly and Nikita turned to close the door, wondering what she had just walked into and knowing immediately that Michael wasn’t here either. “Adam?”

The house grew immediately silent until Adam’s footsteps were heard running towards her. He pointed backwards and it looked like he was crying. “You have to make him stop.”

“What?” Nikita asked as she tried not to let her headache show to Adam. Her having a headache was not going to help with this if she allowed it be part of the problem.

“Davenport,” Adam frowned as he crossed his arms. “He is leaving because of that new teacher… and you should stop him.”

Nikita rubbed her head as she looked at Adam. “He is a grown man, Adam. I know that he had been thinking of finding a place with Ellie for a while now.”

“You want him to leave!” Adam exclaimed as he turned back and headed to the kitchen. Nikita heard the accusation before she could even head after Adam. “Are my dad and Nikita making you leave?”

“No,” Davenport shook his head as he leaned against the counter, regretting that Adam had found out this way. He had started to pack boxes and Adam caught him when he came home early from Lisa’s because Lisa was going to shopping with Rhoda for school. “We put an offer on the house weeks ago, Adam. And it isn’t far. It’s on the way to Lisa’s.”

“I didn’t know that,” Nikita whispered and Davenport nodded his head. “Jason helped us… I was afraid that if you and Michael found out that the house would suddenly become a gift. We didn’t need this to be a gift.”

Nikita dropped her head, knowing that she would have done as Davenport guarded against them doing.

“You can’t leave!” Adam stomped his foot and Nikita sighed. “Adam… Davenport is free to make this decision. He isn’t a child and he deserves to have time alone with Ellie.”

“He isn’t married yet. He shouldn’t be allowed to live with her yet,” Adam fired out as he was grasping at straws right now. Davenport looked at Nikita with regret in his eyes. “You weren’t supposed to find out like this, Adam… I was going to tell everyone at dinner with Ellie here.”

“You aren’t married yet! This is wrong.”

“Adam,” Nikita snapped and Adam shook his head. “You and Dad are different… but he isn’t. He should marry her first before he lives with her.”

Nikita walked to the table and sat down calmly, hoping that it would help bring Adam down from this rage that he was on right now. But she looked at him and saw that he was digging in for a fight. “You are too young to understand these things, Adam.”

“You are letting him go… and we need him,” Adam blustered as he shook his head and looked at Nikita. Tears were about to fall from his face again.

“We need him?”

“To make sure… nothing else goes wrong… that if you… have a flash and run… that we know where you are… so he can’t go. Not until the PTSD is gone,” Adam declared with a stubborn look on his face that broke Nikita’s heart.

Nikita rubbed her shoulder. “Adam… I might never be done with the PTSD. We can’t just ask Davenport put his entire life on hold for something that we don’t know will ever end.”

“It will end if he stays,” Adam announced and Davenport cleared his throat. “I’m not going far, Adam. I still can see the house from my new place. I’ll be around.”

“But we need you here,” Adam pouted and then groaned. “I hate you all!”

Nikita closed her eyes as Adam left the room with a huff that continued all the way upstairs until the door slammed. She was thankful that obviously Sabina was somewhere, probably with Michael. Nikita opened her eyes and looked at Davenport. “Why today?”

“I’m not leaving today. I was packing,” Davenport defended himself. “Believe me… this isn’t the way I wanted Adam to find out. I knew that he would take it hard.”

“Because he is afraid for me,” Nikita shook her head as she voice cracked. “That shouldn’t be his job.”

“It isn’t,” Davenport sighed. “He is just using whatever he can to try to get me to stay.”

“And we did the one thing that made it easier for you to leave. We found Reagan,” Nikita bluntly spoke. She wanted to talk to Davenport about this yesterday but they just didn’t find the time.

Davenport rolled his shoulders back as he considered the statement. “It will be easier for Reagan to live here with you and especially with Sabina.”

“There is another room here, Davenport. You didn’t have to leave for her.”

“I want to spend time alone with Ellie. We’ve been talking about this for… a while,” Davenport admitted and Nikita swallowed again. “And you didn’t do it sooner because of me?”

“Nikita…”

Nikita shook her head as she stood up. “No… I get it Davenport. I just hate the fact that I’m a reason for someone’s decisions. I stopped your life with Ellie from happening when it should have.”

“Nikita…”

Nikita lifted a hand and shook her head. “You can explain to Michael why none of us want dinner tonight… and you can stop all plans on watching us… you and your men are relieved from duty, Davenport. Effective immediately. We can take care of ourselves.”
