Michael held Nikita in his arms as he leaned his head closer to her neck. Nikita sighed contently as she turned and looked at him. “There are children in the house, Michael.”
“I know,” Michael sighed, full of regret that they weren’t alone and didn’t have more privacy. He could definitely be doing other things right now but he also had another reason for holding Nikita like this. “I thought we could talk some.”
“We are to be sleeping, Michael,” Nikita pointed out as she glanced at the clock and rolled her eyes. “You never have slept much.”
“Neither have you,” Michael replied back with a twinkle in his eyes. “I guess we can’t change everything about ourselves.”
Nikita chewed on her lip slightly as she knew that he was pointing to her turn as the Angel to get out of the bad mood that she had been in. She tried to explain to Michael that it wasn’t just because of the bad mood, but that she always watched for situations where the Angel was needed and it was a good sign when she didn’t have to be the Angel. “What did you want to talk about?”
“Our wedding,” Michael answered honestly as he saw no benefit of beating around the bush. Nikita had agreed to a date but so far, she hadn’t done much more at all. “You agreed on March 20th, Nikita. The first day of spring because it will be the beginning of our lives as husband and wife.”
Nikita was holding onto a breath and she sighed gently. “I didn’t say which year, Michael.”
“Yes, you did,” Michael smiled back at Nikita. “And I just want to start planning it… and I want you to go get a dress. You have known this for a while, Kita.”
Nikita shifted in Michael’s arms and sat up slightly. “You are making this much larger than I thought it would be. I thought it would be like a trip to city hall… or maybe like a trip to Tom’s place to get a new ID for myself.”
“No, it isn’t going to be like that,” Michael shook his head as he sat up and stroked Nikita’s hair back. “It’s going to be a ceremony… and maybe it will be Tom having it… but it is going to be as close to a real ceremony… and I think the minister that married Rhoda and Nat would do it for us, Kita… Tom would protect us so we can have a real ceremony.”
“Maybe I don’t want that,” Nikita sighed as she touched Michael’s face. “I told you that I couldn’t do big.”
“And it isn’t going to be big,” Michael whispered back as he placed his hand over Nikita’s hand. “Just us… and our family… Davenport, Ellie…. Rhoda, Nat, Lisa… Tom and Laura… Mick, Jason, Daisy…”
Nikita swallowed hard and turned her head away. “Michael… you know that I want us to be married…”
“A ceremony shouldn’t scare you… not with me there,” Michael whispered back as he turned Nikita’s face to look at him. “You won’t be sad on that day. You’ll know why I wanted this for us. You’ll feel it, Kita.”
Nikita shrugged her shoulders. “I’m not going to be good at planning something that scares me, Michael.”
“I’ll take care of the plans… I’ll find the place, although I think it is going to be at Walter’s cabin… and I’ll take care of the flowers, the food, the décor… I just need you to get a dress… and to be there that day. I’ll handle all the other details,” Michael outlined his plans to make this wedding as easy on Nikita. He looked at her eyes and started to smile. He could see that Nikita was going to say yes to this plan.
“I think…” Nikita started and then she rolled her eyes as she realized that Michael knew that she was going to agree to this plan. “But don’t push me on the dress… it’s going to be simple.”
“I want it to be special,” Michael tilted his head to get closer to Nikita. “Please, Kita… you’ll know what is perfect… but you have to try to find it.”
“It’s too soon to worry about that.”
“It’s not,” Michael shook his head as he chuckled. “Most brides-to-be would have already been to the wedding dress store. You need to go.”
Nikita kissed Michael’s cheek and settled back down against her pillow. “I will, sometime… soon.”
Michael wanted to protest that she needed to set a date, but maybe he was just going to have to schedule an appointment for Nikita to go with Rhoda and maybe someone else – like Beatrice. He knew that for now, he had made a lot of progress and he realized that he was going to have to take the lead, almost fully. Nikita wasn’t going to be a bridezilla because she didn’t even really want to be a bride.
They were both just starting to fall asleep when a scream pierced the calm night. “MOM! DAD!”
Both of the former operatives were about out of the room when Sabina came running into the room. She actually ran passed her parents and jumped into their bed as they had both been moving too quickly to get to their daughter. Nikita turned and looked at her daughter as she pulled at the pillow and placed it over her head. “Sabina… Sabina, what’s wrong?”
Michael’s eyes flashed at Nikita and she knew that he was walking down the hallway. She could hear that Adam had already gotten out of his room and Nikita was almost sure that Reagan had come out of the guest room.
“They took me away,” Sabina cried from behind the pillow. “They can’t do that.”
“No one is going to take you away,” Nikita spoke as she sat down on the bed and tried to take her daughter in her arms, but Sabina curled up closer to the headboard. Nikita sighed as she knew that this was a bad nightmare for Sabina. Michael would find nothing wrong but he wouldn’t be happy until he checked things out. “Sabina, I won’t let anyone take you away.”
“You weren’t there,” Sabina huffed as she pulled her head out from behind the pillow. “I was alone.”
Nikita touched her daughter’s hair and shook her head from side to side. “It was a dream, Sabina.”
“But it was scary,” Sabina cried out as she burst into tears again. Nikita looked up at the door to find Michael there. Nikita felt like she was going to shatter into pieces seeing Sabina like this.
Michael settled in beside his daughter and took her hand. “You are safe now, Sabina. You can sleep with us for the rest of the night, ok?”
Sabina nodded her head up and down. “I’d like that.”
Michael nodded his head to Nikita as he settled down in the bed, Sabina still scrounged up against the headboard.
“You should put the pillow back so you can put your head down on it,” Nikita guided her daughter. She slowly did as her mother suggested and rolled closer to her mother. “Dad… can you get closer to me? I need to know both of you are here… that I’m not going to be taken away from you… please?”
Michael moved closer and touched Nikita’s arm as he hugged his body around Sabina, to hold onto Nikita. “Is this better?”
“Yes,” Sabina whispered as Nikita saw her daughter’s eyes already drifting back to sleep. Nikita kissed Sabina’s forehead and closed her eyes too.
And together, they all fell to sleep.
