Nikita held the cup of tea with shaking hands as she stared out the window that showed that the sun wasn’t about ready to come up from its winter night slumber. She swallowed hard and exhaled as she felt her mind getting ahead of her, and she couldn’t stop it.

”Do you have any witnesses?” the justice asked as he smiled at Nikita. She looked at Helmut and the back to the justice. “We were on a tight schedule.”

“My bride couldn’t wait another moment until she was Mrs. Volkner,” Helmut replied with a twinkle in his eye that seemed to put the justice at peace with the couple in front of them. Nikita forced a smile and tried to play along with Helmut although her head was battling with her.

Section had set this up!

“Let me get my assistant,” the justice replied as if it was common for couples to arrive in the middle of the night for a rushed ceremony, but yet, come with the proper attire. Nikita watched as he left the room and Nikita turned to glare at Helmut. “Why don’t we just tell him I’m in the family way?”

“Now that is an idea that I didn’t think of,” Helmut replied back with a chuckle. He moved closer and brushed Nikita’s brow. “You can’t wait for the wedding night, darling.”

“Nikita,” Nikita snapped as she pushed her hand through her hair and swallowed hard. “And I don’t know why you wanted to rush this. We could have waited until the morning… or better yet, the weekend.”

“I’ve learned it’s not wise to wait,” Helmut replied back as he wrapped his arms around Nikita as the door opened again and the justice come into the room, clearing his throat with an older woman behind him. “Ah… I have a witness now.”

“Thank goodness… my bride was just starting to get queasy… it’s probably time to get this ceremony started… before it becomes morning.”

Nikita could almost feel the tight wedding hat on her head and she clutched onto the cup while turning away from the window. Being alone was not helping her at all.

Nikita walked back upstairs and into the room that she shared with Michael. She used one unsteady hand to hold onto the cup and the other to turn on the bedside light. Michael’s body winced with the light and then he started to wake up. It was as she sat on the edge of the bed, so very close to the headboard that Michael sat up with full alert. “Kita?”

“I don’t know if it was PTSD flash or not… but I can’t… I can’t not talk about it,” Nikita spoke as she looked at the cup and then looked at Michael. He noticed the shaking and he took the cup out of Nikita’s hands and put it on his night stand on the other side of the bed. “You could have woken me sooner.”

Nikita realized then that Michael figured out that she had been up for a while. “It’s the same memory, Michael. It’s because of Rhoda’s and Nat’s wedding… so I don’t think its PTSD… it’s not like it was a traumatic event…”

“I don’t know what you have been thinking about, Kita,” Michael pointed out gently. Nikita pushed her hands through her hair and swallowed. “Helmut.”

Michael’s face flinched and then his memories started to slip into place. It was wrong to bombard him with this in the morning, but Nikita didn’t have a choice. “My wedding to him.”

“Section’s wedding,” Michael corrected as he moved closer to Nikita. “Section married him… you didn’t decide to love him and marry him. Big distinction.”

Nikita turned her head to look out towards the door that showed the exit from the room. She waited as her legs started to bounce. “It wasn’t awful.”

“The pictures looked nice.”

“They were posed later that day. The ceremony was that morning… well, like 3 am in the morning,” Nikita revealed and Michael tilted his head slightly. “You never told me that.”

“You never told me about your wedding to Elena,” Nikita countered and Michael pressed his lips together. Nikita had a great point. “Was that a Section wedding too?”

“Yes,” Michael nodded his head up and down. “At least yours to Helmut Volker wasn’t long… or more.”

Nikita rolled her shoulders back. “You felt something for her.”

“The plan wasn’t marriage at first. It was pregnancy first,” Michael explained. Nikita frowned and shook her head. “You were married before Adam was conceived.”

“Elena had a miscarriage,” Michael rasped as he sat there and shook his head. “So we had no wedding attire… we eloped… thinking that it would bring her father out then… when she was pregnant and just married… then she miscarried…”

“So I’m the only one who had a Section wedding full with a wedding dress?” Nikita questioned as she shook her head and leaned it back. “I don’t want to be thinking about this today.”

“That’s probably why you are,” Michael pointed out with a gentle voice as he shifted his body to look at Nikita.

He had lots of questions as he didn’t know all that much about Nikita’s time with Helmut. She never wanted to speak about it afterwards. Michael didn’t want to hear about it either. So he never got details. But that didn’t mean he didn’t wonder about it.

“What ever happened to him, Kita?” Michael asked and Nikita’s mouth went dry.

"Who are you?" Helmut asked as he was in the building have having seen Nikita just take down a mini-army, without any hesitation and looking much more dangerous that he had ever been trained to be.

But their attention couldn’t be about answering that question. In ways, Helmut knew that it was better that he didn’t know who this woman was. He quickly informed Nikita about the manual override being disabled and set forth on the task of dismantling the bomb even while Nikita provided him protection from anyone else who may be lurking around with a gun.

The paper was in his hands as she started to give Helmut instructions like he had done when he thought he was the Interpol Operative who would save the day. It was when she warned him that Section would still be looking for him that Nikita noticed the realization of how dangerous she could be to him crossed his eyes.

“Shoot me,” Nikita directed as she looked at his gun. Helmut jerked his head slightly from side to side.
“Upper arm, shoulder. Do it."

Nikita waited calmly as she could see the turmoil in the man who thought he was going to be the hero and save her. She had turned around and made his life something completely different than he thought it would be. "If you care you'll do it, it’s the only way."

The pain seared and Nikita slumped down with the shock to her body. She had to order him again as her body staggered. "Just go!" Nikita commanded as she could see Helmut actually move closer to her.

He was running down the hallway as Nikita’s body sensed the one person that she could tell would come. It was too soon and Nikita moved forward and shouted just as Helmut saw Michael round the corner and aiming at him. "Michael – No!”

Michael stopped and slowly lowered the gun. It was all done before he could see that Nikita had been shot.

“I found him,” Nikita rasped as she looked at Michael. “He was hiding and running from Section for some time… I righted that situation but by then he had lost all ties to Interpol…”

“So?”

“He got a break… after an accident,” Nikita admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. “And a warning to stay out of the business… but he chose that line of work… so I don’t know if he would take the injury insurance… find a nice woman and have a real life.”

“Hopefully he has seen through the good luck,” Michael commented and Nikita leaned her head back. “It’s supposed to be a happy day, Michael. Rhoda and Nat are in love. They are going to get married. I should be happy for them.”

“Mixed feelings aren’t uncommon,” Michael reached out and touched her cheek. Nikita rolled her face away as she saw into Michael’s green eyes. “Please, Michael…”

“What?”

“Don’t think about it.”

“What?”

Nikita dropped her head forward and shook it from side to side slightly. She felt him get closer and she looked up. “Go ahead and ask.”

Michael’s breath hitched and he knew that Nikita could see what he was wondering. “Did anything ever happen between you and Helmut?”

“We got married…”

“Kita…” Michael rasped and she lifted her head and looked right at Michael. He paused and swallowed. “Did anything physical ever happen between you and Helmut?”
