Nikita glanced away from the window and nodded towards Michael. He moved silently as Nikita moved to the computers to glance at them, knowing that they had to move now. She looked over at Lisa and paused. Nikita went to her. “It’s going to be ok, Lisa.”
“I know,” Lisa spoke and Nikita exhaled. It was good that the girl had faith in them because Detective Rowles was making this much harder than it should have been. It was nice to see someone so dedicated, but it was making this harder to pull off.
When Nikita had arrived with Michael to the police station that morning, Detective Rowles met them and Nikita knew that she had not left the station without having Davenport confirm that fact. But she had changed and greeted Michael with a smile. It was clear that she had pushed the Chief to give her more of the information that he had gotten from the Special Forces and she was trying to poke holes into it.
The Chief finally put an end to it when they got to the conference room. He laid out what he knew to be the truth and that they were concerned that Lisa was not telling them information because she was scared. He ultimately told the Detective that he was more concerned about the safety of Lisa’s life over catching the killer.
Michael now moved to the closet of the hotel room and started to move things around. Nikita made sure that the electronics were in the room, knowing that they couldn’t be traced. Lisa gasped as Michael opened up a trap door to the room below that Davenport had somehow made during the course of the day that Michael and Nikita sat with the police going over how to protect Lisa. Right now Detective Rowles was in the room just a couple doors away and some other officers were stationed in the front of the hotel since there wasn’t considered to be a way out in the back.
But Davenport had made one.
“Nikita?” Lisa inquired and Nikita touched the teenage girl’s elbow. “You’ve been so strong, Lisa. Trust us on this.”
“I know you,” Lisa indicated and Nikita looked over at Michael as he motioned for them to move. Nikita paused. “Nicholas’ name is truly Michael. I’ve told you about him. I told you how the only way I would be able to be with him again is if there was no Section… trust me, Lisa.”
Lisa moved to Michael as he slipped into the darkened closet of the room below, which was conveniently under renovations for now. They weren’t going to go out that door as it was too much exposure. Instead, another hiding door was there that went to the room that was on the back of the hotel. It faced a forest and appeared to have no roads.
For a car.
Nikita waited for Lisa to slip down and then she looked around the room. Jason had pumped enough recording of sounds and conversation for their room that it wouldn’t be until morning that someone would come to see them if they were being listened on from afar. Before pulling things over to hide their exit, Nikita put a bead of sealant and then pulled the floor down firmly.
Michael was already into the next door and moving Lisa with him. Nikita exhaled as she thought back to the car ride when Lisa did exactly as Nikita had taught her years ago, stayed quiet for Nikita to clear the car of any bugs, which of course there was in Lisa’s bag. Nikita disposed of them quickly as Michael drove. She had to give some silent kudos to Detective Rowles for being thorough, although she admitted to the Chief that she had anticipated that Nikita would find the previous bug from the prior day.
Then Nikita pulled out the iPad and handed it back to Lisa. “There are some pictures there… are any of those men at the house when your foster parents were killed?”
Nikita watched the mirror as Lisa glanced at the pictures. She watched the teenagers’ response and saw the terror as Lisa started to nod her head up and down. Nikita glanced at Michael as they both knew that this was more than a gambling debt, but so far no threat to them. “Which one, Lisa?”
Lisa swallowed and stared at Nikita’s eyes in the mirror. “All four of them.”
Nikita shivered and started to worry. “Lisa… you said that they didn’t mention Section… or my name…”
“They are trying to get to the brother of my foster mother,” Lisa stated as she handed the iPad back to Nikita. Nikita glanced at Michael and heard Jason instantly working away at the detail to only confirm moments later that Lisa was correct.
Now as they continued to slip thru a series of hidden exits, Nikita wished that she could just hold onto Lisa and make the bad things go away. She was able to hold Lisa’s hand as they jogged into the woods and almost a mile deeper until they got to the dirt bikes that they would ride further away from the hotel before getting to a road and their car, almost six miles away.
Somehow Lisa was strangely connected to some sort of organized crime family meltdown and an innocent family got killed for it. The part of the family that took out Lisa’s foster parents hadn’t even done enough research to realize that Lisa was a foster child and not a biological daughter. They thought that they would get a reaction about leaving Lisa behind but had made a horrible mistake – and by the time they realized it Lisa was a witness to a very dangerous crime.
Nikita opened up the door to the car as the SUV came down the abandoned road that Davenport had put barriers up closing the road hours ago and web cameras that Jason continued to monitor. Nikita looked at Michael and swallowed.
The look in his eyes almost matched the look that she got when Lisa confirmed that she had seen all four of those men in the house, participating in the murder of her foster parents. She didn’t need to tell them anything more because Jason started to build the evidence and other information. It was as Nikita looked at Michael that moment that she knew that the family had to be stopped.
And now Michael was going to leave them to go with Davenport to take care of the situation.
“Michael…” Nikita whispered and Michael cupped her face. “We won’t be long… be ready to get on that plane and leave…”
“That family…” Nikita whispered as she rubbed her elbows. “They are related to the family that caused our daughter…”
Michael rubbed Nikita’s face again and kissed her cheek. “They aren’t related.”
“I know,” Nikita rasped as she blinked her eyes. “I don’t like knowing… that you are going to take care of this.”
“It has to be done,” Michael pulled his hand away and Nikita opened the door to the car. She watched as Michael slipped into the SUV with Davenport and they took off. Nikita turned the car on and started towards the airport, consciously watching the time knowing that it was going to be a long hour.
