Adam frowned as he looked at the computer, finding it frustrating that it was clear that all searching for his sister had stopped. Just a couple weeks ago, it was going full steam and then Beatrice arrived. Then Nikita went and rescued someone whom Adam hasn’t met yet and now his father was spending way too much time with Nikita, alone.

Adam didn’t want them to make him a sister – he wanted them to find the sister that was already out there.

He was bored again and school. The teachers spent way too much time on the simplest things. He had been finding it a bit easier to handle with his new teammates, but it didn’t make it any easier when those same teammates didn’t find it important to do school work.

Adam didn’t have homework. It was already done before he left school. He didn’t understand his teammates that complained about spending hours on their math homework. Adam usually had work after school – it was stuff that his father would arrange for him to work on when he arrived home that actually did challenge him. But now those things were drifting away from the frequency.

He knew that he wasn’t supposed to hack but seriously, it was as if Jason was putting up easy firewalls just to keep Adam preoccupied with getting thru them. There were systems of Jason’s that Adam hadn’t been able to crack and he knew that it had to be along the lines of Nikita’s systems. Adam knew better now than to test his might against his father because his father had sneakily laid traps in there to punish Adam.

Leaning back, Adam pushed his hands away from the keyboard, finding that hacking wasn’t even interesting because he wasn’t going to find what he wanted. Frowning, Adam stood up and went out into the hallway, surprised to find that his father’s bedroom door was open.

“Dad?” Adam called out as he walked down the stairs. He stopped as Nikita turned away from the door with take-out. “You ordered in?”

“Yep,” Nikita nodded her head up and down while continuing down the hallway. Adam followed and saw his father closing up a laptop. “So… I forgot to send you some supplemental assignments. You should have mentioned this Adam.”

“I’m the only kid who has to do them…”

“That’s just the way we are handling this, Adam,” Michael stated and Adam rolled his eyes. “I should have just skipped grades.”

“No,” Michael shook his head. “You need to be in school with kids your own age.”

“I’m not damaged because of my youth, Dad. I’m special because of it… but I know how to be social with other kids… I could have skipped grades… I could be graduating!”

Nikita chuckled. “You would hate being a Doogie Howser.”

“Who?” Adam asked as Michael started to laugh. Nikita smiled. “Doogie Howser, M.D. He was on TV.”

“That’s an old television show, Nikita. Neil Patrick Harris is onto new things now,” Michael commented and Nikita nodded her head. “I know that it is an old television show… he used to type on this enormous computer!”

Adam looked back and forth between his father and Nikita as they were lost in a fit of giggles. He sat down and folded his hands on the table. “Is this some sort of new punishment?”

“Have you done anything wrong?” Michael inquired and Adam shook his head back and forth as Nikita placed the containers on the table and he realized that they had ordered his favorite Chinese food. Adam started to dish out his food and he looked back at the adults, they were still chuckling. “Ok… can we eat?”

For a while, that is what everyone did and Adam was still confused. He paused and tilted his head to the side. “Do I get to meet her?”

Nikita raised an eyebrow and glanced at Michael. “When the time is right, Adam. Lisa is settling into things with Nat and Rhoda.”

“But I can help her,” Adam pointed out and Nikita rolled her eyes. “She has a lot to go thru, Adam. She wasn’t as lucky as you were.”

“But she is with us now,” Adam declared and Nikita nodded her head. “I know… I think she’ll be very happy with Nat and Rhoda too. But she has a lot of decompression, Adam.”

Adam shrugged his shoulders and started to eat again. He finished the first serving and he started to dig into the containers again as he took a risk. “So… if it was easy to get Lisa… why are you looking for my sister?”

There was silence but not the extreme reaction that Adam had anticipated – Nikita didn’t drop her fork.

“Adam,” Michael spoke and Adam tilted his head, not backing down. “Come on, Dad. I think it’s a valid question.”

“It is,” Nikita interrupted before Michael could tell Adam that it wasn’t. Nikita placed her fork down and folded her hands. “We haven’t stopped looking.”

“I know that no one is looking…”

“Adam,” Michael sternly spoke again but Nikita raised her hand. “It might not be as intense as it used to be Adam. It’s a struggle for me not to go full force… but I am the one that needs it go at the pace that it is. So I can be this version of Nikita for you… for your father… for all of our friends… and for her.”

Adam looked up and shook his head. “I don’t like not knowing.”

“I don’t like a lot of things, Adam,” Nikita pointed out but she stopped and looked at Michael. She then calmly picked her fork back up. She looked at the two men and picked up a container. “If you two aren’t going to eat… I’ll eat it myself.”
