“I can’t believe how little I needed to get a computer,” Lisa commented as she placed the small package into her jeans pocket. Adam nodded his head. “There are so many computers in things that everyone takes for granted…”

“They really thought the microwave broke,” Lisa chuckled and Adam smiled at Lisa. “But you have to still try to get them to get you a laptop or something… this rudimentary computer isn’t going to last forever… I don’t know the voltage and such and I’m sure that it is probably going to melt some of the components if you use it too long… only 5 minutes at a time.”

“I know,” Lisa sang out and Adam narrowed his eyes at the girl. Lisa laughed again. “You tell me this each time we meet up.”

“I’m glad that you came this time,” Adam admitted as he continued to walk down the newest path that they were exploring in the park. Lisa kicked at a rock and tilted her head to the side. “You said that you needed out of the house… and I’ve gotten good…”

“Plus everyone is out, right?” Adam added and Lisa nodded her head up and down. “Rhoda will be back before dinner so I can’t stay out long.”

Adam pulled out his phone and winked. “I’ll know when she is heading home. You’ll be back with at least ten minutes to spare.”

Lisa rubbed her hand along her elbow as she studied Adam. “So… why did you need me to come out today?”

“Nikita hasn’t been herself for a couple days,” Adam admitted as he lost his smile. He hadn’t mentioned it to his father, but Adam knew that something was wrong. “I don’t know what happened… whatever happened they have it locked up tight.”

“Locked up tight?”

“On the protected parts of their systems,” Adam grumbled as he thought about his rebutted attempts to break into his father’s and Nikita’s systems. He was going to have to see if he could get anything from Jason’s system.

“Maybe it isn’t on a computer?”

“I just hope it isn’t about my sister,” Adam shook his head from side to side. “I know that Tom is working on something… and he isn’t in the area… and that’s nerve wrecking.”

“You have a sister?” Lisa inquired and Adam stopped. “Oh… technically a half-sister… Nikita had a daughter while she was running Section… snuck her out… and my dad was the father… and we are trying to find her…”

“Find her?”

“Yeah,” Adam nodded his head up and down. “Something happened at the center she was taken too once she was given up for adoption… and she couldn’t be adopted which means she is in the system… and it’s really hard trying to find her.”

Lisa stopped and leaned against the tree. “I guess I would like to have a brother or a sister.”

Adam sighed as he moved his head up and down again. “I never thought I would… until I knew that there was a sister of mine out there… and it was Nikita’s daughter… I know that Nikita makes my dad happy and I like that.”

Lisa tilted her head to the side. “I’ve been asked by Beatrice over and over again if I would want to know who my parents are… I only remember Section... and she doesn’t believe me when I say I don’t want to know them because… they would hurt knowing what I have lived thru.”

Adam would imagine it would be a lot like what his father and Nikita were going thru trying to find his sister. He moved to the tree and leaned against it with Lisa. “Beatrice is probably just trying to get you to talk. She has been to the house the past couple days too… that’s why I know something is going on.”

Lisa moved slightly so that her arm touched Adam’s and she slowly shook her head from side to side. “I don’t want to talk about it… she says that this is the easy stuff to talk about… but I know what her goal is.”

“And that is?”

“The shooting,” Lisa rasped as she leaned slightly and she looked down. Once she saw that she could sit on a large part of the tree, she sat down with Adam following her. “I don’t know why I have to talk about it.”

“Adults always say that it is better to talk about it,” Adam commiserated as he rolled his shoulders to the side and then reestablished the touching of Lisa’s arm against his as he leaned towards her. “I think they like to talk too much about things and not do anything.”

“It isn’t like anything can be done now,” Lisa’s voice cracked as she closed her eyes. She shook her head from side to side. “I have told Beatrice that I don’t remember what happened… that I didn’t see things.”

“Oh…” Adam looked at Lisa and pressed his lips together. “She doesn’t believe your lies?”

Lisa wasn’t surprised that Adam could tell that she was lying. In fact it was almost a relief that Adam knew that she was lying. “I want to forget about it… so talking about it…it just makes me think more about it… does she want me to have nightmares?”

“You have nightmares about it?” Adam asked and Lisa nodded her head up and down. Adam reached over and took her hand into his hand. “Then maybe it isn’t such a good idea to lie about it.”

Lisa groaned and turned her head away, but she didn’t remove her hand from Adam’s hand. It felt good like that and she felt strength. “I don’t want to talk about it alone with her… I don’t feel comfortable.”

“And how do you feel comfortable?” Adam asked. He watched as Lisa turned to face him. She parted her lips as she looked at Adam. She didn’t understand why. It made no sense. Adam was younger than her. He wasn’t a therapist. She couldn’t figure out why it was easier to talk to Adam about these things.

Adam felt his phone vibrate as he took his other hand up to touch Lisa’s face. He looked into her eyes and then pulled away. “Rhoda is on the way home… early.”

“Damn,” Lisa muttered as she didn’t quite move. Adam was the one that stood first and he helped Lisa up. “You’ll get home… it’s just passed that house over there.”

Lisa watched to where Adam was pointing she laughed. She looked at the window that she had left cracked as it was the one that she had snuck out of. “How did you know?”

“I know,” Adam whispered as he squeezed her hand and swallowed hard. He wanted to say something more but he let go of her hand. “Same time tomorrow?”

“Of course,” Lisa winked as she took off with a slight jog although she had plenty of time.
