Adam walked down the stairs with a frown on his face. He walked into the office that his father had and leaned against the door. “I thought you were going to come up… and give me my punishment.”

Michael pulled his head up and glanced at the clock. “It’s late Adam.”

Adam tilted his head to the side and shrugged his shoulders. “Ah, but you said for me to go upstairs and wait.”

“And I’m not ready to tell you what your punishment is tonight… I don’t know what it is,” Michael swung his head from side to side, wishing that this conversation was just over.

Adam shifted his weight, frustrated that his father wasn’t really paying attention to him. “But you hate putting things off.”

“Adam…”

Adam groaned. “Is this like a new form of punishment? Torturing me first before telling me?”

“No,” Michael wearily spoke as he felt a headache pounding even more in his head although he had just been playing Zuma Blast for an hour now, not sure what to do, wishing he could just stop his thoughts for a while.

“Maybe I’m not getting punished?” Adam pushed and Michael slapped his hands on the desk. “Stop, Adam. You are going to get punished but I don’t know what that is yet because I have to talk to Nikita about it.”

There wasn’t even a hesitation from Adam as he quipped. “But you aren’t talking to her.”

Michael spun in his chair as he could now glare at Adam. “That isn’t any of your business.”

Adam groaned again as he shook his head from side to side. He waited and tapped his foot, but Michael didn’t say anything more. “So you aren’t talking to Nikita… but you never had to ask her before about punishing me.”

“Things change.”

“Yeah they changed,” Adam declared as he nodded his head up and down. “It’s like you don’t care what she is going thru today.”

“Adam, this is business between myself and Nikita.”

“You already talked things out with Davenport. Why haven’t you talked to Nikita?”

“It’s more complicated,” Michael sighed as he pulled out the aspirin and popped the lid off of the container. “You are going to have to just wait for us to rule about your punishment Adam. And there will be one.”

“What if Nikita doesn’t want to punish me?”

“I walked into a verbal war earlier today. I highly doubt that she isn’t going to want to punish you. I might be the one who is more reasonable,” Michael irately spoke as he took the medicine and then swallowed them down without water. “Go to bed, Adam.”

“I want you to go talk to Nikita.”

“I’m going upstairs shortly,” Michael relented as his son was not going to give up on this right now.

“She went into the spare room,” Adam stepped back with a shrug of his shoulders. “Maybe she is more worried about what is going on.”

“Adam,” Michael snapped and Adam stopped. “What?”

“Never talk to me like that again. You aren’t my father. You are my son,” Michael warned with a deep voice. Adam swallowed hard and dropped his head. His father had been rough with him in the past but it was very very rare for Michael to take that tone with him. Adam started to nod his head up and down. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean anything… Dad…”

As Adam said the word Dad, Michael blinked his eyes. He wasn’t this mad at Adam and it wasn’t fair to Adam. Michael got up and watched as Adam didn’t come towards him. Michael sighed and moved the distance between them and wrapped his arms around Adam. “I’m sorry, Adam. It truly has been a long day.”

“It’s been longer for Nikita,” Adam pointed out as he slipped out of the hug and walked away.
