Michael pushed the open the bathroom door and looked at Nikita as she lifted her eyes as she sat on the stool across from the bathtub. “What you doing Michael?”

“Making you talk to me,” Michael announced and Nikita looked at him confused. “We were just talking earlier…”

“About plans for the weekend,” Michael agreed and Nikita tilted her head. She was shaking her head moments later. “Then you don’t need to make me talk to you.”

“I want to know about the flashes you’ve been having. You used to talk to me about them… but not now,” Michael pointed out as he turned and closed the door. He waited for Nikita to immediately protest, but she just looked at him.

“Kita?”

“I can’t explain why,” Nikita shook her head as she shrugged her shoulder slightly. “It was good to talk to Beatrice.”

Michael swallowed hard as he crossed his arms along his broad chest. “Because you still don’t trust me.”

Nikita shook her head. “I trust you, Michael. How could you think that I don’t?”

“I shook that faith in me that you had that day when I looked at Laura for answers… and I pushed you aside… You haven’t fully trusted me since then,” Michael jerked his head to the side to look at the mirror and not at Nikita. “I don’t know how to bring that trust back, Kita.”

“I trust you with my life, Michael,” Nikita stood up as she moved to him and touched his face. “There are just some things… I’m not comfortable…”

“See,” Michael snapped as he focused back to Nikita. “You don’t trust me to know…. If you aren’t comfortable telling me.”

“There are lots of reasons to be uncomfortable, Michael,” Nikita pointed out as she looked at him. She stepped back and rubbed her chin against her shoulder. “Maybe I’m embarrassed.”

“You have been telling me about the flashes for a while now, Kita… this is different,” Michael prodded.

Nikita frowned as she took another step away from Michael. The hairs on the back of her neck had stood on edge with what Michael was saying. The whole conversation suddenly felt like it had been a setup.

Just yesterday Beatrice had suggested that Nikita wasn’t ready to trust Michael fully again. Nikita protested at that time and then pointed out to Beatrice that a lot of the newest flashes that she had been having involved times with Michael. Times when he betrayed her. Or at least that was how Beatrice saw it. But Nikita knew that back in Section there were times that Michael had to betray her in order to save both of their lives. It was a way that she survived. She had done the same to Michael, so why should she be having issues with any of this now. Section was gone.

“You talked to Beatrice,” Nikita rasped as she turned her head to the side. She saw Michael’s eyes and she shook her head. “This might be why I struggle, Michael… you keep on doing things like this.”

“She called me,” Michael pointed out as he crossed to stop Nikita from stepping further away. “She didn’t tell me anything that I didn’t know.”

“Oh… of course,” Nikita shook her head as she felt tears in her eyes. “So she told you that I was having flashes of the war… and of the time that you beat me up for the woman who thought I was her daughter… and how you watched me in that water tank?”

“No,” Michael swung his head from side to side. “I had figured that out myself.”

“Really?” Nikita hissed as she turned away but was turned around by Michael’s hands. “I don’t believe you.”

“Then you lied about trusting me,” Michael shrugged his shoulders as he stood right there in front of Nikita. “This doesn’t work out if we can’t get thru this stuff, Kita.”

Nikita pushed at Michael’s hands and she couldn’t move them. “So we are over if I don’t start telling you everything?”

“Only if you don’t admit that you haven’t been able to tell me everything. That’s all I want, Kita,” Michael loudly spoke as he pulled his hands off of her shoulders. “Admit that you can’t tell me everything… and that you don’t fully trust me.”

“Didn’t she tell you the rest of it?” Nikita hissed as she shook her head from side to side. “Beatrice thinks that I’m telling the truth when I’m awake… that I do truly believe that I trust you heart, soul, body… everything… and it is only during the flashes… that my mind doesn’t believe that I trust you… and that my body still seeks you out… I don’t have flashes when you aren’t around… that’s because I trust that you are going to be there… even if I’m embarrassed to talk about what those flashes are about… because it shows how weak I still am!”

Michael saw the tears on Nikita’s face and he cringed. He had hung up on Beatrice and didn’t hear any of this. He had been going out of his mind trying to do whatever he could to be there for Nikita and he may have ruined it more. He reached out and wrapped Nikita up in his arms. He felt her calming and could tell that her body did trust him.

He held her and they were silent as they finally were holding each other. Michael dipped his head and looked at Nikita.

And then she kissed him.

It had been such a long time and Michael kissed her tenderly back. He felt her hands against his skin and he breathed a sigh of relief. This was what he had been afraid was gone.
