Nikita sat on the back porch with Michael as he turned on the grill and returned to sit by her. She tilted her head and felt the warmth hitting her skin. Summer was just about here. Adam had just a little over two weeks of school left and then summer would be there. They had fallen into a schedule but now that Nikita sat on the porch, she knew that she had to admit to Michael something.

This schedule had to change.

“Michael…” Nikita spoke and she looked at him. He tilted his head and she watched as Michael’s back tensed up just slightly. She couldn’t go back now. He knew instinctively. “You need to go back to working at your lab. You don’t need to be with me all the time like this.”

“Kita…” Michael shook his head slightly. Nikita took Michael’s hand and shook her head. “I mean it, Michael. I know that you enjoy solving those puzzles that others can’t… and people like Nat need you to do that.”

“What matters is more is my family,” Michael declared and Nikita dropped her feet from the railing and turned towards Michael more. “I’m going to start a job taking photographs for an architect… It’s good for me to change my routine too… but not too much. I’ll be around here since Adam will be out of school.”

“So this is a summer schedule?” Michael inquired and Nikita rolled her eyes. “Your son thinks he is getting somewhere with hacking into my systems… and he either has no idea that I have him trapped into a fake system or he is trying to get thru the fake system to get into the real system… I think it is best that with that and his friendship with Lisa needing somewhere to grow since the tutoring will be stopped thru the summer… supervision might be best at this point.”

Michael groaned and Nikita wondered which item bothered Michael more. “I never meant to raise a hacker.”

“He is just hacking into my stuff,” Nikita stated and Michael arched an eyebrow. “We would catch him before he tried to do anyone else any damage… Jason has pointed out that Adam might try to break into us but he doesn’t do a good job protecting himself.”

“Unless he is bluffing both of you,” Michael shrugged his shoulders. Nikita cleared her throat. “You aren’t going to change this topic, Michael. I think is important that we start to make these changes.”

“And what about looking for our daughter?”

“Have we really been doing a lot of that?” Nikita tilted her head as she rubbed her fingers along Michael’s fingers. “That wasn’t what we were doing this afternoon… and this morning.”

Michael cleared his throat as Nikita saw a slight blush cross his cheeks. “We’ve done some things…”

“We’ve hung around the home… and enjoyed each other… except a few times that I’ve gotten information that made the angel get the police involved… the angel passed the information along and didn’t even take care of the issue…” Nikita explained as she leaned over and kissed Michael. “Not that I want to get rid of what we’ve been doing… but there is more to life and we need to go back to that, Michael.”

“It hasn’t been all about the sex, Kita,” Michael pointed out as he studied Nikita. He swallowed hard. “I’ve been rebuilding the trust that I ruined between us…”

“But we’ll never see how I’m doing with those issues if you are always here,” Nikita shrugged her shoulders. “And we should start acting more like a family… a family that has parents who have jobs… we aren’t the type that want to just sit around. At least I don’t think we are.”

Nikita shifted and rolled her shoulders back. “And we’ll have to be that family when we find our daughter… Mick is out there, sure that he is going to beat Tom and Laura in the search… and he might be onto something… I don’t want to wait to try this out until we have our daughter back. We have to start this now.”

Michael reached out and stroked Nikita’s hair back. “Are you getting a sense that someone is getting close? Have you not told me something?”

“No,” Nikita shook her head. “But I just felt that now is the time… and that we can figure this out… so we can start looking at our wedding… and we can plan other things.”

Michael got up and pulled Nikita’s hands up to have her stand up. He looked into her eyes and he narrowed his eyes. “What else are you planning?”

“Nothing bad,” Nikita smiled slightly as she looked to her feet and then back to Michael. “A family vacation.”

“That isn’t something to hide… where are we going? When?”

“Just to the cabin for maybe two weeks… a couple days after Adam finishes school… he is going to volunteer by himself at the library in the mornings… but that doesn’t start right away,” Nikita explained and Michael tilted his head slightly more. “What else, Kita?”

Nikita chuckled. “We are going to Walter’s cabin… he rents it now that he has moved into town…”

“Stop beating around the bush, Kita.”

“There is the cabin right next to it…” Nikita stated and she looked at Michael’s eyes. He wanted her to get to the point. “I’ve gifted the rental to Rhoda, Nat and Lisa…”

Michael dropped Nikita’s as he crossed his arms over his chest. She could hear the protests. “They are friends, Michael… Adam and Lisa are friends. It will be easier for all of us if they can be friends together on vacation… than to separate them.”

Michael shook his head. “I don’t think we need to encourage them spending more time together… they are teenagers.”

“They are good teenagers, Michael,” Nikita pointed out. “And it isn’t like there are a lot of places for them to hide in those woods… Nat will keep tabs on Lisa… and it doesn’t mean that everything has to be done together… “

Michael stepped forward and cupped Nikita’s cheek. He rubbed his thumb along her cheek and kissed her lips tenderly. “This is really important to you.”

“All of it,” Nikita nodded her head slightly. She allowed Michael to tenderly capture her lips. She pulled back after a while and looked at Michael. “Adam will be home soon.”

“He has seen us kiss,” Michael stated and Nikita still stepped back. “You should get the steaks on the grill.”

“Ok,” Michael replied and Nikita stopped to face Michael. “Okay to what?”

“Your entire plan,” Michael answered. Nikita smiled and Michael knew that it was the right thing to do.

For now.
