“You told Rhoda that you were going to stay in your room tonight,” Adam spoke as he watched Lisa’s body jump on the back porch of the large cabin that Lisa’s family had rented. Swallowing hard, Lisa looked over to the yard that there were two tents pitched in and looked back at Adam. “I thought you told them that you were going to stay in your tent.”
“I just… couldn’t sleep,” Adam shook his head slightly. Lisa smirked. “You thinking about what your dad and Nikita are doing?”
“No way!” Adam fired back with a hiss. “That would be like thinking about what Rhoda and Nat were doing the other day when my dad and Nikita took us on the rock climbing adventure.”
Adam dropped into a chair with a groan. “Something feels like it changed… something doesn’t feel right. Like I know that we aren’t going to stay here for the entire time.”
“Like maybe they found your half-sister?” Lisa inquired and Adam shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe... that is going to happen someday.”
“You are so sure of that.”
“I know my dad… and Nikita.”
Lisa knew Nikita and she rubbed her hands along her jeans and leaned down over her legs. “Aren’t you concerned on what will happen once they find her? Isn’t it going to change everything?”
“No,” Adam shook his head. “I know that my father loves me… and I know that he loves Nikita… I know that Nikita loves him… and that she loves me. And we’ll all love their daughter.”
Lisa continued to look at Adam. Adam rolled his eyes. “I trust them.”
Lisa clenched her jaw together and Adam blinked his eyes. “How can you not trust them, Lisa? Nikita got you out…”
Lisa sat back up and looked away. “I know that, Adam.”
“But?” Adam pushed. “You still don’t trust her?”
“I didn’t say that,” Lisa turned and shook her head. She pulled her feet up onto the chair and hugged her knees. “You didn’t ask me why I’m out here.”
“I know that it isn’t to see me. You wish that I was still asleep in that tent,” Adam declared as he heard the phone ring inside the cabin. He looked inside and then at Lisa. “We are going to get caught.”
“I had a dream,” Lisa whispered as she didn’t seem to care about being caught. Adam didn’t say another word. This had to be important. “Of when… my foster family… was killed…”
Adam swallowed hard and pressed his hands into each other, realizing that Lisa wanted him to speak next. “Do you have them often?”
“Yeah,” Lisa nodded her head. “I don’t talk about them… not even to Beatrice… because it makes no sense to be scared of them… I’m the safest I have ever been… and that is odd… thinking of where Nikita got me out of… and that it is safer to be with her friends… than anywhere else… I know that I’m safe.”
“But it doesn’t stop the dreams,” Adam pointed out and Lisa nodded her head. “Nope… doesn’t stop them.”
“My dad has dreams…” Adam revealed as he leaned back in the chair and sighed. “He had a lot of them when I was young and we were just reunited… he would come into my room… thinking that he was waking me up… just to hold me… to make sure that I was there… that I was safe and real.”
“That must have been awful,” Lisa whispered and Adam shrugged his shoulders. “It meant that we were alive… and I wasn’t who he always wanted…”
Lisa thought about it for a while and winced. “He wanted Nikita.”
“She was still inside,” Adam whispered as he nodded his head. “Nikita… she has dreams too…”
“She has post traumatic stress disorder,” Lisa dully spoke.
“You don’t have that, Lisa,” Adam declared. “Beatrice would have told you that.”
“Or she wouldn’t want to scare me,” Lisa shook her head from side to side.
“I don’t think that Beatrice lies,” Adam replied as he looked at Lisa. “She forces Nikita to talk about the flashes… the dreams… does Beatrice force you?”
“Never,” Lisa shook her head from side to side. “Told me that I would figure out who to talk to them about…”
“And that’s me?” Adam asked and Lisa chuckled slightly as the door slammed open.
Rhoda stopped and blinked at the two teenagers. “Ah… you…”
“I got up, Rhoda… Adam saw me and wanted to check on me,” Lisa rushed and Rhoda lifted a hand. “Lisa… I’m not upset… just… busy…”
Adam watched as Rhoda rushed over towards the tent that Nat was in and he tensed up. He knew that something was wrong.
Adam found himself over by the tent as Nat got out of it speaking too loudly not to be overheard. “Is Mick going to make it out of surgery?”
