“Come on, Tom… He left you a message!” Laura complained as she looked at Tom. Tom rolled his eyes as he pulled his eyes off of his phone with Laura’s words. He had calls with messages like the one that Mick had left him for weeks now. It was almost every other day that he thought he had a lead on Michael’s and Nikita’s daughter. It was always urgent.

“I’m busy having Jason backfill his story and to cover his identity for the hospital,” Tom explained to Laura as he had been trying to do for hours now. “That’s what I can do.”

“He was in Salt Lake City…” Laura stated as she shook her head. “I thought he said that he was going to Seattle.”

“He had,” Tom sighed as he shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t understand Mick…. I don’t even know where he was getting his leads from Laura. It wasn’t something that he wanted help with or discuss… he felt guilty for letting their daughter go. He feels like he should have figured out a way not to listen to Nikita’s directions especially after what had happened…”

“And we are sure that this was an accident? I mean… I’ve heard about what Michael and Nikita did…”

“It was an accident,” Tom issued before Laura could go much further with what she was saying.

“Our leads aren’t even on that side of the Mississippi… so why was he there? I don’t understand… I don’t think our contact is out that way… but what if he was onto something…” Laura issued and Tom shook his head. “We won’t know until we can talk to him.”

Laura paled and Tom stood up. “We are going to be able to talk to him.”

Laura turned away and Tom wrapped his arms around Laura and rubbed her arms. “Come on… we’ll go check in with Davenport and Ellie… I know that she was on the phone with the hospital…”

They had arrived at Michael’s and Nikita’s house no more than thirty minutes after receiving the call to start working on things. Jason didn’t come on site as he was busy hammering away at his computer to give a real history to the identification that Mick was using while also trying to figure out why Mick was there.

Ellie was sitting at the table as she shook her head. “I just want to know if there will be the likelihood that we can transport him back to his hometown… where he has family…”

Davenport rubbed his chin when he noticed Tom and Laura. He shook his head slightly and turned back to the pot of coffee which he finished pouring into a mug and immediately started another pot.

“Of course I understand that nothing is sure from the surgery… I am a doctor… and I just want to be sure…” Ellie protested but it was clear that she was getting a stone wall right now. Tom turned away from Laura and started another phone call. It was clear that Tom was going to try to find another way to get help in finding out what was going on with Mick since Ellie was not getting much of anywhere.

“Of course… I’ll wait for the surgeons to call me,” Ellie sighed and then she groaned as she dropped the phone to the table. “I have never been… belittled…”

“Here,” Davenport spoke as he handed Ellie the cup of coffee. “They are just trying to do their jobs, Ellie.”

“I just want to know when I might be able to bring him back… I didn’t want a guarantee.”

“So, he is going to be ok,” Laura stated and Ellie turned to look at the woman. It was that statement that brought Ellie back to the reality that she didn’t know. “It is still a delicate situation.”

“How delicate?” Laura asked and Ellie shrugged her shoulders. “He has a brain injury that I’m concerned about… and the surgery was exploratory.”

“It wasn’t exploratory,” Tom returned to the room with a serious look on his face. “They’ve had to remove his spleen so far… and there is a laceration to his liver that is very serious.”

Ellie closed her eyes. “And with the compound fracture to his femur… in the middle of it… he has a very long recovery…”

“If they control the brain swelling,” Tom added and Ellie sadly agreed with a nod of her head.

The room was silent and Laura paced around. “So, Michael and Nikita are coming back…”

“We told them to stay on vacation,” Davenport answered and Laura swung her head. “That isn’t right.”

“There is nothing that they could be doing right now,” Tom agreed with Davenport, but he wasn’t sure if the couple would agree with what was told to them. “But it is clear that Nikita is concerned.”

Davenport tensed up as he walked back to the coffee pot to fill up three more mugs. “That we aren’t following up on what is going on with Mick? She has to know that we don’t know that much…”

“That it wasn’t an accident,” Tom stopped Davenport’s rambling. Tom brushed past Laura and took two mugs. He handed one immediately to Laura while he turned to face Davenport again. “Jason texted me that Nikita is going crazy searching thru her systems to be sure…. And it is going to be clean… we’ve sent her everything about the accident.”

“But she doesn’t believe it,” Davenport whispered with a sad shake of his head. “I was afraid at first too.”

“I’d be more worried about his injuries,” Ellie pushed her cup away and shook her head. “I can’t believe that I can’t get information… maybe I can just fly out there.”

“You’ll start getting more information from now on,” Tom instructed Ellie. She frowned and Tom shook his head. “Look… you remember Renfried Rossi.”

“A doctor at Section…” Ellie whispered and Tom nodded his head. “The first doctor that Nikita got out. He leads the trauma center that Mick is at now. I didn’t tell him all the details but he owes Nikita a lot.”

“We all owe her,” Ellie whispered and Tom swallowed. “He is the father of four right now… his wife just had twins two months ago… he has a lot to be thankful since Nikita saved him.”

“He better make sure that Mick survives this… and that we can get him here,” Davenport spoke and he looked over at Tom. Tom jerked his head up and down. “And my hope is that Nikita doesn’t contact Renfried herself… although he goes by Rich Tossi.”

Ellie jerked her head up again. “The Rich Tossi?”

“Yep,” Tom nodded his head. “Mick is in good hands, Ellie. He’ll call you when he knows more.”
