“Obviously, you know that there is a lot more going on here than leg cramps,” Ellie spoke as she sat down on the stool and turned towards Michael. She wasn’t about to leave the room right now as Nikita was asleep, but it was just a temporary sleep for the moment. It would hopefully give her enough time to hear more from Michael.

“It’s better than it was,” Michael spoke and Ellie blinked her eyes. “Better?”

She could barely ask that question. She could tick off the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder easily and swiftly with Nikita’s actions in just that small amount of time. It was clear that something that she had said, or just the fact that she was from Section, put Nikita into a bad place in her mind. Ellie was sure that Nikita was only half aware of the examination that Ellie had given her.

“She hasn’t been with me since Section… it took her months to make her way to me,” Michael commented as he looked at the doctor even as he refused to sit down. Instead, Michael continued to stroke Nikita’s head. “I found her… living in a convent… and not talking…”

Ellie exhaled and looked at Michael. “Why didn’t she get help sooner?”

“Where does a Section One operative go for help about the things that they did?” Michael questioned with a thick voice. Ellie dropped her head and knew that Michael was right. “She always had a way of clamming up… that’s not against her nature… I barely know about her life before Section. That is uncommon for a trainer not to learn that stuff.”

Ellie rubbed her neck and looked at Michael. “So she started to talk?”

“Ah… did you hear about the angel?” Michael asked and Ellie groaned. “No… not Nikita…”

“Yeah,” Michael answered as he shrugged his shoulders lightly. “And she has a condo… it looks almost exactly like Section… the Perch is where she had her bedroom.”

“She moved her bedroom into the Parch a couple months before I left,” Ellie revealed as she leaned forward and rubbed her forehead. “Michael, I don’t have to ask much of Nikita to know that this is a really severe case of PTSD. I think you know that.”

Michael stared at her and parted his lips slightly. “This seems to be more than that.”

“Treatment for it has to start…. Because the cramps may not be physical symptom at all,” Ellie explained as she pulled her tablet back to her lap. “Severe PTSD can lead to heart trouble and it is obvious that she isn’t sleeping enough nor eating.”

“It’s better than it was when I found her…” Michael swallowed and Ellie tilted her head to the side. “Better? Or is it better in some ways and worse?”

Michael just looked at Ellie and she knew that Michael was playing the game of no response meant that he wasn’t going to address it. Ellie shifted and exhaled. This was Michael Samuelle and he was known to everyone who was in Section. He had one of those names that were whispered in awe and in fright at the same moment. But he was just a man right now who held a connection to a woman who needed help. “She is talking… because you want that, right?”

“Everyone… my son… Walter…”

Ellie twisted her head. “Walter?”

“Yeah,” Michael nodded his head up and down. Ellie rubbed her elbows. Walter was a great man and she always felt that Walter had kept parts of Section alive with just his will to focus operatives on the task at hand. She had heard that he had gone off to retirement. Obviously, Nikita got him free too.

“Ok… so all of you let Nikita know that you wanted her to talk… so she is talking… but I’m taking that she has more moments that she is completely not there mentally… and probably more vivid dreams…” Ellie spoke as she looked over to Nikita. “I’m sure that there have been spells of just crying and sobbing… for hours…”

“Or longer,” Michael admitted with a nod of his head. “But if she could just talk about it… and I think it’s just two events… it’s whatever happened to her guards… and the baby…”

Ellie didn’t know what to do about the baby. It seemed so incomprehensible that a mother could give up her child and send her away after making sure that she could carry it. Plus, it had been Michael’s baby. There was no hiding the fact that Nikita loved Michael. Everyone in Section knew it. It made them admire Nikita but it also made them fear Nikita. If Operations could send away the love of her life, it meant that she could make the hardest decisions that one would come across.

“Talk isn’t going to be the starting point here,” Ellie stood up and put the tablet back down on the counter. “I’m going to talk to her… when she wakes up... and suggest medication.”

“She won’t,” Michael swung his head from side to side. “I know her.”

“This is something I think you need to advocate for Michael. It will help her process what is going on. If it gives Nikita just a little bit of a break… to let her really sleep… the medicine would be worth it,” Ellie advocated as she leaned against the counter. “But then it will be up to you… and maybe Walter... to get her to talk.”

Michael leaned over and kissed Nikita’s forehead. “She’ll talk to me when she is ready. She isn’t.”

“She may claim never to be ready,” warned Ellie as she could see that this was impacting Michael greatly also. “If this drags on… this may be her life for the rest of it…”

“You’ve seen it this severe before?” Michael asked and Ellie winced. “Yeah... and it’s pretty grim, Michael.”

Michael stroked Nikita’s face. “I won’t let anything else her hurt.”

“I’m going to talk to her about the medicine… I have too,” Ellie warned and Michael nodded his head. Ellie stretched her arms and rolled her head to the side. “Why don’t you call Walter? Or your son… let them know what’s going on… I’ll be here.”

Michael knew that Ellie wanted to talk to Nikita when she woke up. He wasn’t sure about that, but she was a doctor who obviously knew what she was talking about.
