The water was not warm enough as it washed down from the shower head. She adjusted the heat so that it would beat against her body, trying to take the feeling of that satin white dress off of her body. Nikita leaned her face up into the stream of water for a long time before starting to scrub the feeling away.

She was rinsing her head as the shower door opened. Helmut stood there as he grinned. “Hello, wife.”

Nikita covered her chest and glared at him. “What are you doing in here?”

“Thought we’d get a head start,” Helmut grinned back as he reached for Nikita as he was naked and now stepping into the water. Nikita turned to the side and spun until she was at the door. “Don’t ever do this again to me.”

Nikita jumped out of the shower and pulled at the large heated towel off of the rack and quickly wrapped it around her body. She heard the water being turned off in the shower and she grabbed the other towel off of the rack as Helmut followed her out of the shower. “Cover up.”

“Nikita… come on…” Helmut spoke as he tried to touch her, but she pushed the towel out and stared at her hand as it held onto the towel. “Cover yourself up.”

Nikita stepped out of the bathroom and into the bedroom of the hotel suite that they were sharing on this wedding night. She quickly went to the suit case and pulled out the underwear and stepped into them before pulling a long sweater down over her body even as Helmut strutted into the bedroom with the towel around his waist. “What’s going on?”

Nikita looked at him and sat down on the bed. “Please, Helmut… things have happened fast and I don’t think you know me that well.”

“We’ve had some fun… we’ve enjoyed each other’s company… I thought we were going to partake in some… biblical action,” Helmut shrugged his shoulders slightly. “That’s what married couples do.”

Nikita rubbed her neck and she worried. She may have to do this for the mission.

“Something happened to you,” Helmut spoke gently as he realized that she had wiped a tear away from her cheek. Nikita turned and looked at him. “An abused woman doesn’t necessarily like to talk about what has been done to her.”

Helmut watched as Nikita walked to the dresser and started to unpack her bag. He turned and pulled on a pair of jeans and dropped the towel to the floor. “I’m sorry… I didn’t know.”

“I didn’t tell you,” Nikita turned and looked at Helmut. “And I might be overreacting…. I know what today was…”

“We can wait,” Helmut replied as he moved closer to Nikita. He stroked her hair back much like Michael would do and Nikita silently cursed that she was thinking about Michael. “I’m sorry, Helmut… maybe this wasn’t the best thing…”

“It was right,” Helmut replied back and Nikita could see that he didn’t really believe his words, but he was going to honor them for now. “Let me order some room service…”

“Nothing happened, Michael,” Nikita spoke as she looked at her hands. She heard a grunt and she lifted her head to look directly at Michael. “Look at me.”

Michael jerked his head to see Nikita focused on him. He knew then that she wasn’t hiding anything. “Nothing happened between me and Helmut, Michael. Not sexually.”

“Not even on the wedding night?” Michael questioned although he knew the answer.

“We did some kissing… but that was limited… and we weren’t together that long,” Nikita replied as she shifted and wrapped her arms around her body. “There was an incident of him walking into the shower… so he did see me nude and I saw him nude… not too impressed.”

Nikita tried to chuckle but Michael wasn’t replying. Nikita rubbed her elbows and leaned forward. “I told him that I was abused… he backed off… he never really had another opportunity to make another move.”

“He would have.”

Nikita hesitated and pressed her lips together before nodding her head. “If enough time had passed… probably. He was misled pretty good…”

“So what did the two of you do?” Michael inquired and Nikita blushed. She looked at Michael as he was not moving his attention from her. “I sort of talked about you… he wanted to know if I had been in love before… he didn’t know that it was you…”

Michael could remember how Helmut had looked at him as he had his gun pointed at the man even as Nikita shouted him to stop. At first it was shock and then there was some sort of moment that things seemed to click for Helmut. “Don’t be so sure that he didn’t figure it out.”

“I can’t know what he figured out after he left the disarmed bomb, Michael,” Nikita wisely replied as she stood up and got her cup of tea. She took a sip and then looked at Michael. “Nothing happened.”

“Ok,” Michael spoke as he turned to look at her. “I believe you.”

Nikita held onto the tea cup as she moved back to her side of the bed. Michael looked at Nikita and waited for her to settle. “Was that the last time you saw him?”

Nikita turned her head and Michael watched her jaw twitch, a good indication that there was more to say. He waited as Nikita did put the cup back down on the night stand by her and then turned to face him. “The last that he saw me… But I saw him… when I had to find out what happened…”

“Why?”

“He was a good man, Michael,” Nikita pointed out as she shook her head from side to side. “Section had been after him for two years… despite the fact that he had taken care of things the way we wanted them to unfold…”

“When did you see him?” Michael questioned as he didn’t say anything about what Section had been doing to Helmut.

“I had a meeting with the powers that be… maybe four months into being Operations…” Nikita paused and Michael knew that she wasn’t going to say it – but four months into being Operations meant that Nikita was pregnant at the time. She rubbed her feet as she pulled them closer to her. “I went to a restaurant with my guards… I trusted them at the time… and they thought I just wanted to eat Greek.”

“You knew that he was there?” Michael inquired and Nikita nodded her head. “Part of his settlement… he had just gotten things to realize that he wasn’t going to be chased any longer… but he was recovering from the injuries that helped end it… he was in a wheelchair… with a girlfriend…”

Michael sat there and Nikita exhaled deeply and looked at Michael. “I know that he got better and out of the wheelchair… the only reason he was in was because he had a broken ankle, several bones broke in the other foot… and had to have rotator cuff surgery… so crutches were out of question.”

“Why did you need to see him?” Michael inquired and Nikita blinked her eyes while shrugging her shoulders. “I needed some proof… of fixing something…”

Nikita pulled her hands away from her feet and clapped them together. “I need to get away from these thoughts, Michael. Today is supposed to be happy for Rhoda.”

“But you are conflicted…”

“Marriage isn’t a good thing for me,” Nikita shook her head from side to side. She snorted slightly. “It’s good that we both got the Section marriages out of the way… we aren’t the type to be married.”

Michael felt like a knife had been stuck into his chest, but he knew that right now, Nikita was just not in the place to see marriage for more than what it had meant to her during Section. “I don’t know Nikita…. Those weren’t real marriages…”

“A Section marriage, forced upon me, is the only type of marriage I will have, Michael,” Nikita declared as she turned and picked up her tea cup. She sipped it and closed her eyes for a moment. She exhaled and opened them. “Rhoda’s will be different… and I know that. But that isn’t meant for me…. We aren’t the type for marriage, Michael.”
