“What are you doing?” Helen declared as she walked into the room to find Michael walking towards the chair that Adam had used while he was in the room. That was after Michael had pulled the curtains back from the window to actually see with his own eyes the vast amount of snow that was outside.

“I’m not an invalid… I’m recovering from surgery and I feel a lot better than what you are medicating me to be feeling like,” Michael sternly declared as he looked at the tough little nurse. He had to give her credit, she was feisty, and that was needed last night. But this was a new day and he wasn’t going to have it.

“Michael… what are you doing out of bed?” Davenport asked as he walked in. Michael lifted his head as he shook his head at Davenport. He couldn’t believe that Davenport was blocking Nikita from coming into the room. Nikita needed him and to keep her away was wrong.

That simple.

“Not one of you would take me seriously about what I’m going to say if I was sitting in that bed. It’s time to realize that I’m not like others when it comes to being sick… I can’t just stay in that bed… it’s not me,” Michael responded to Davenport and left his other thoughts to himself for now. He knew that Davenport was adjusting to being outside of Section and that came with him making some stupid decisions. That would be taking Ellie’s side on this decision.

“I think the doctor should have a say in what you should and shouldn’t be doing,” Ellie sighed as she shook her head as she entered. “I knew that you would do this… I was just hoping that it was going to be tomorrow.”

“With you keeping three keeping Nikita away? That wasn’t likely,” Michael bluntly spoke. He saw all three of their faces drop and then they looked up. “Don’t blame Adam for telling me. I’m his father and he doesn’t lie to his father.”

Davenport glanced over to Ellie but kept his mouth shut. Maybe Davenport hadn’t been completely sold on the decision to keep Nikita away.

“Mick is coming in to help with Nikita. You don’t need to worry about her,” Ellie whispered softly as she walked towards Michael. “You should sit down.”

“I’m going to sit down… but I’m not going into that bed right now,” Michael identified as he looked at Ellie. He waited for her to nod her head before he sat down. “Why don’t one or two of you sit on the bed?”

Ellie could see that he was angry and she sat on the bed and waited for Davenport to sit down. Helen crossed her arms. “I listen to the doctor’s orders.”

“Then you won’t be needed here much longer,” Michael retorted with a shrug of his shoulders. Helen opened her eyes and shot a look over to Ellie. Maybe Helen didn’t agree either.

“We all agreed that Michael wasn’t capable of handling Nikita,” Ellie pointed out as she looked at the two people who were staring daggers at her. “For Pete’s sake… she was shoveling snow this morning!”

“So was Walter? And now he is on the way here… said he was going to bring extra flour and sugar too… and maybe a gift for Adam,” Davenport pointed out firmly. He wasn’t happy about having to drag Nikita inside, but what could he say? He probably would have done the same thing if he had a son who was celebrating his birthday today. Nikita was trying her best at being the best parent she could be, even though she thought she would never be a mother in Adam’s eyes.

“Recovery from surgery is the priority here. There isn’t a mission that Michael needs to be ready for. He can be like everyone else,” Ellie pointed out with a shake of her head.

“But Nikita doesn’t need everyone else. She needs Michael,” Davenport huffed as he crossed his arms over his chest. “You only know Nikita as Operations… which isn’t fair because even while she was Operations and did a damn good job at pretending to be cold and disassociated… she wasn’t Operations. It was a role that she was playing to benefit all of us… you didn’t know Michael and Nikita when they were together… and the most stupid thing the powers that be thought was that they were better separated… because if they were together running Section… they would have found a way to make us free but also kept Section… they were unstoppable when together…”

Ellie cleared her throat. “You said that they hurt each other…”

“Often that happened,” Davenport nodded his head up and down. “But they also made the impossible happen or each other…. Things you wouldn’t imagine ever doing… would you have stayed in Section by yourself… pregnant… so that the man that you loved could have a life with his child on the outside… free?”

Ellie dropped her head and swallowed. “I am concerned about health first.”

“I won’t get better if I have to worry about how Nikita is,” Michael spoke as he was grateful for Davenport’s words. But still, he should have spoken up sooner. “And this is my house… you all are guests here… you don’t get to make the rules… you don’t get to tell someone that they aren’t allowed to see… especially when that person is Nikita.”

“The standard of treatment for the recovering from your surgery should have you still in the hospital,” Helen spoke. Michael leaned forward. “You three do not get to make the rules in this house. Got it?”

Helen seemed to shrink from the intensity that Michael spoke with. She was the first to nod her head up and down.

“I was trying to help…” Ellie protested and Michael tilted his head. “How is that working out? You have me pissed and more concerned about Nikita… and Nikita… she isn’t sleeping.”

“She is!” Ellie protested as she swung her head from side to side.

Davenport snorted. “I told you that Michael taught her to look like she was sleeping. She completely fooled you.”

Michael arched an eyebrow and looked at Ellie. “Don’t make this harder for me, Ellie. I’m sore and I’m not feeling my best. But I think more of that is because I can’t control what is going on with Nikita if she isn’t allowed to come in here… I worry about what extreme measure she is going to do in order to get to see me… and she will do that.”

“Oh man…” Davenport rolled his eyes. “I remember the time that we found out that she was being a female Spiderwoman to sneak out of her apartment without opening her door because she figured out about the door sensor that would tell the guards to watch her… she wanted to see you Michael and she would climb on that two inch ledge between her balcony and the hallway window… damn, how did she do that?”

“Extreme,” Michael solemnly spoke as he looked at Ellie and she exhaled while her shoulders dropped. “Ok… I’m sorry…”

“I’m not going to say go bring her in here now…” Michael pointed out as he looked at Ellie. “Adam is with her now… and Mick is coming… I’ll be able to rest while that is going on… and then she can come see me…”

“You aren’t going to heal this way, Michael.”

“I’m not going to heal the other way,” Michael shrugged his shoulders. Michael leaned his head back and cleared his throat. “That’s all…”

Ellie jumped to her feet and ran out of the room. Helen rushed out just as fast, but Davenport stayed on the bed. “She was trying her best, Michael.”

“Have you talked to Rhoda?” Michael asked and Davenport shook his head. “With this snow…. We don’t need to be responsible for more people trying to get here… I tried to tell Walter to stay away.”

“He probably started to shovel is way back as soon as he got back to the cabin,” Michael commented and Davenport nodded his head up and down because that was about right. “He’ll probably need to sleep when he gets here.”

“Or a drink,” Michael stated with a shrug of his shoulders. “Dav… I know that you care about Ellie…”

“Hey…”

“I wasn’t going to say anything about that relationship,” Michael interrupted before Davenport got to upset. “Just don’t lose yourself because you care for so much for her. If it’s real… she’ll be able to accept you challenging her… fighting her.”

Davenport nodded his head up and down while it was his turn to slip off of the bed. Davenport turned and grabbed the blanket and tossed it gently onto Michael’s lap. “No reason for you to be cold over there… and no reason to have to come back to bed.”

Michael held onto the blanket and softly smiled. “Go start shoveling.”

“You are going to owe me for this one!” Davenport rolled his eyes. “Didn’t we get rid of a snow blower?”

“Yes, so you could have somewhere to live,” Michael answered which caused both men to chuckle.
