“City officials have started to work in hives, working like groups of neighbors that have been working together to dig their sidewalks and their driveways out from the record amount of snow,” the television reporter spoke as Michael watched the noon news, knowing that Adam was celebrating his last snow day. Tomorrow, he would be back in school.

“It is unknown where the neighbors started to work together in these groups, but the idea was spread across the city on the internet. It is helping the elderly and physically disabled,” the reporter continued as she smiled and looked at her co-host. “It wasn’t like the angel could dig us all out of this snow.”

The two hosts laughed but Michael muted the news as he found the house too quiet. The shoveling crew was out and Michael had spent the morning practically by himself. He had even called Jason to see if he could do something, but Jason did not pick up.

He didn’t want to fall asleep because when he woke up was when he did not feel the best. He did not want to feel that way any longer. Now that it was four days after his surgery, Michael was over it and he wanted to get back to normal.

Michael wasn’t sure when Helen was still staying with them, but today she went out to shovel.

“I’m proud of you, Michael,” Ellie spoke as she walked into the living room. “I know that this is hard for you.”

“I think you said that I didn’t have a choice,” Michael replied and Ellie nodded her head. “You really don’t… healing this way is the way that the body was meant to do… not like it was in Section.”

Michael looked at Ellie and leaned back. “You are going to give me more bad news.”

“I don’t want you to work for a couple weeks, Michael,” Ellie replied and Michael shook his head. “Why not? I don’t do manual labor.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Ellie explained with a shake of her head. “I would be telling you three weeks… and during these two weeks, no driving.”

Michael’s mouth dropped and he looked stunned. Ellie swallowed hard as she held firm. “Michael, you need to rest. That means staying home… not taking risks that you don’t need to take. You are still having pain. You still need medication.”

“I can work…”

“You need a break,” Ellie firmly replied and Michael finally closed his mouth, losing some of the stunned shock that had taken over his thoughts. “I can’t… Kita needs me back to normal.”

“She needs you to get better.”

“She can’t wait that long,” Michael declared but was interrupted as the stomping outside indicated that their guests were back. Ellie didn’t say anything as Michael got up. She was putting him in a spot that he didn’t want to be and he was a bit like a caged animal. He went to the door and looked out for one second before yanking it back up. “Where is Nikita?”

“She went over to the lab…. To take care of something that Nat had called her about,” Mick spoke up first as no one else wanted to look at Michael. Michael immediately slapped his hand against his pocket and realized that he had not had his cell phone in all of this time. Which meant that Nikita had it.

“That’s not her job,” Michael stated as he backed away from the door as Adam slipped into the house. “She looked happy to help, Dad.”

Michael turned to look at Ellie. “That’s why I can’t wait two weeks.”

“It’s also why you have to wait two weeks,” Ellie shook her head from side to side. “Nikita’s problems aren’t going to just disappear…. You push yourself too hard too fast, things will take longer.”

Michael followed everyone into the kitchen, and sat down, sulking. It took some time before Walter sat down next to the glowering man. “Look, Michael… I think Nat just needed a report faxed over. I don’t think she was running any tests on anything… but the fax machine is a bit ancient… from what Mick said.”

“If I could drive, I’d go buy a new one,” Michael retorted as he crossed his arms in front of him just as there was a noise on the porch. Everyone turned to see Nikita walking inside. She shrugged off her coat and seemed to struggle with her boots.

“I think… I’m done shoveling,” Nikita whispered as she walked into the kitchen. She tried to roll her shoulder back and she winced. “I need to… go take a shower…”

“Are you hurt?” Ellie inquired but Nikita continued to talk. Michael looked as Nikita went upstairs and he turned to glare at Ellie. “What?”

“I’m only allowed to go up and down once,” Michael sternly commented and Ellie huffed so that her hair fluttered above her head. “Be careful, Michael.”

Michael got to his feet and went up after Nikita, knowing that she needed him, even if she thought that she didn’t.
