Nikita looked wearily on as Michael pulled the car up to a building that was in a warehouse section of town, a good twenty minutes away from the house. She turned and looked at Michael. “I thought you talked me into a dinner and a movie.”

“I did,” Michael nodded his head as he got out of the car and opened the door for Nikita. She got out and looked around. “This is a warehouse.”

“Actually… I only own the loft on the top,” Michael took Nikita’s elbow as he knew how hard it was to get Nikita to agree to leave the house. It had taken him just one day and a promise that there wouldn’t be a lot of people. He knew that this could almost rate as a surprise, but he had to take a chance. “I needed something…”

Nikita looked at Michael and rubbed her head slightly as she then tugged on her ponytail. “I don’t think bringing me to your love nest is in the doctor’s orders.”

Michael reddened slightly as Nikita was slightly right. This was a loft that he had for if he ever would have dated someone and wanted some time alone. He had decided a long time ago to not bring a woman into Adam’s life until he was very sure. Michael hadn’t brought anyone here and he hadn’t been to this loft in well over a year until earlier today. “I’ve never had anyone up.”

Nikita waited as Michael opened the door and they entered the hallway and went immediately to a very large elevator. Nikita looked around. “This is huge… what kind of building was this?”

“It’s actually historic… can’t be altered too much… it used to be a car dealership kind of building,” Michael explained as the elevator started to slowly move up. Nikita swallowed and looked at Michael. “You should have installed benches for as slow as this is…”

Michael chuckled but he turned Nikita around in his arms. “Just lean against me… I don’t want you to get too tired.”

“I still don’t think I should disregard doctor’s orders,” Nikita whispered gently as she didn’t lean back against Michael any further, but she did allow Michael to continue to hold her. Michael kissed Nikita’s neck gently. “We are going to have dinner and a movie… and we’ll be home and in bed before Adam is ready to go to bed.”

Nikita leaned her head back against Michael and he was relieved for the silence for the moment. It was a comfortable silence, unlike other times when silence seemed deadly. Today, once Nikita relented and said that she would come, Nikita had been more talkative about positive things. She would never admit it, but Michael had to believe that she was looking forward to this.

“It takes about five minutes to get to the loft… sorry,” Michael whispered as he swayed slightly from side to side. Nikita smirked in his arms but did not say anything further.

As Michael led Nikita once the elevator stopped, he turned on lights as he walked. Nikita looked at the large space and then stopped. “I smell pizza.”

“Walter dropped it off about five minutes ago,” Michael admitted as he did not stop right away. He turned the corner and the room was dark, but Nikita could make the outline of what was there. “A car?”

“I was thinking we needed to see a drive-in movie… but since you weren’t feeling all the way better, I wanted to be able to leave early if we need to go early,” Michael explained as he opened the door and Nikita laughed some more. “This doesn’t look like a real car…. Lots of leg room… and what is this?”

“A table for the pizza and our drinks,” Michael admitted as he pulled down the tray that could be put down close to them. Although the car was a sedan, he got rid of the real seats and only put two seats into the car. The table was up so Michael could easily get it up for their food, but it actually stowed away a bit more.

He had worked on the car for years in this building and then stopped. He didn’t know why he wanted to do it, but he guessed he was thinking about Nikita even back then. She was the only woman he could imagine going to a drive-in with. He was not about to tell Nikita that he had never been to a real drive-in. That wasn’t important tonight.

“Do you want water or ice tea?” Michael inquired as Nikita settled in the overstuffed couch that was actually there instead of the chairs. He did that this morning as he didn’t want any arms getting between him and Nikita. They wouldn’t be doing anything more that watching a movie tonight, but maybe in the future.

“Ice tea, please,” Nikita responded as she leaned down and even took her shoes off as she leaned back on the couch and pulled her feet up onto the couch.

For the next thirty minutes Michael made sure that they had plenty of the Hawaiian Pizza that was perfectly done and they watched all of the previews on the DVD that Michael was projecting onto the large wall in front of them.

Nikita cuddled next to Michael with a sigh as the movie started to play. “I hope that you aren’t going to fall asleep on me, Kita… the point was to do something other than sleep.”

“I’m not going to fall asleep… this is a comedy, right?”

“Yeah,” Michael nodded his head up and down as he knew that it was one of the recent comedies. He wasn’t going to admit it, but he had allowed Adam to select one for them so he hoped that it wasn’t too sappy and then he worried that it was about a wedding. That would be bad too.

But he looked at Nikita and touched her nose. “Why does it look like your eyes are already closing?”

“I just am relaxed around you, Michael,” Nikita whispered as she moved in closer and placed her head on Michael’s shoulder. “We never really had time like this.”

“We need to make time like this,” Michael agreed as he wrapped his arm around Nikita. Nikita turned her head to look at Michael. “Can we come back here?”

“You like it here?”

“I think it’s interesting how you had it set up… and maybe… it should be used…” Nikita turned her head away and then back to Michael. She winked and Michael chuckled. “How about we start off with dates here… we seem to struggle with getting those in… other things… seem to be easier.”

Nikita nodded her head as she looked at the movie. “Now… we have to watch the movie…”

“Ok,” Michael agreed but for a while, he watched Nikita, feeling as if he was seeing her get stronger and better while she watched those first few minutes.
