Mick walked into the kitchen and stopped as he saw Michael and Nikita sitting there. Michael was drinking coffee and Nikita had her hands wrapped around a cup of tea. He had been staying as a guest although he wasn’t sure if it was ideal for everyone. “Ah… morning.”
“Morning,” Michael spoke as Nikita nodded her head at Mick before looking back to her tea. Michael looked over his shoulder. “There is tea or coffee.”
“I’ll get some coffee,” Mick replied as he moved to the cupboard and pulled out a mug. He stopped and looked at Michael. “I’m sorry about the drinking the other night. I forced Adam to show me… and I shouldn’t have when I was the adult here.”
“It was a difficult situation,” Michael stated as he looked over his shoulder at Mick. “And I don’t blame Adam at all for showing you.”
“He is a great kid,” Mick spoke as he poured some coffee and walked back to the table. Nikita looked up and pushed the creamer and sugar over. Mick shook his head. “I don’t use those anymore.”
Nikita pulled them back and swirled her tea slightly. Mick swallowed some coffee and looked between the couple. “I hope that it isn’t a problem that I’m here.”
“We want you here,” Michael replied and Mick frowned as he looked at Michael. “You might.”
Both men looked at Nikita as she lifted her head. “Me too.”
Mick exhaled and leaned back. “I wanted to be mad at you, Popsicle.”
Michael took Nikita’s hand as she pulled it away from the tea and looked straight at Mick. Mick was hesitating and he shrugged his shoulders. “But I get why you did what you made me to do… because I couldn’t have taken care of her if you hadn’t made me give her up… and if I’m struggling finding her, then anyone else would find it hard to find her.”
Nikita looked at Michael and nodded her head. “Mick, we know that this is probably something that you feel you want to talk about right now. But other than this conversation right now… we want to get through the holidays and wait until the New Year to really delve into our daughter’s whereabouts.”
“Oh,” Mick nodded his head up and down. “So… I can leave my information with you… and you can call...”
“No,” Nikita reached out and stopped Mick from leaving. “We want you around.”
“Just maybe not in this house,” Michael picked up Nikita’s statement. Nikita nodded her head up and down. Mick exhaled and rubbed his neck. “I don’t have a regular place to go. I haven’t stayed anywhere permanently… for a long time.”
“That’s probably because of Section,” Michael stated and Mick rubbed his elbow. He would have found this easier to handle if Nikita was talking. She was looking at him and he could see that Michael’s words were her words too, but still, it was odd that it was Michael doing almost all the talking.
“I guess I can get to a hotel… long-term place…” Mick offered and Nikita shook her head from side to side. She slipped her hand away from Michael’s and took a sip of tea as she knew that Michael was going to speak up. “The house where my working lab is at now is completely empty. It has a security system, but it would probably be wise that someone lives there… so no one learns that no one lives there all the time.”
“Really?” Mick’s voice cracked. “You want me to stay with your lab?”
“Nikita told me that you are different. Obviously she has taught you a lot that I wasn’t aware of,” Michael replied as he didn’t even move his eyes from Mick. Then there was a key on the table with a card. “The card is for the security system.”
“Ah… this is nice…”
“And you’ll stay,” Michael spoke with a strong voice, but it wasn’t threatening at all. Someone Michael and Nikita knew that Mick wasn’t going to leave. She looked at him as she placed her empty cup down and smiled. “And here on Thanksgiving.”
“What?” Mick questioned as he shook his head as he didn’t quite understand what Nikita meant.
“We are having a Thanksgiving meal here tomorrow. Davenport and Walter will be here. Jason is coming also. There may be a few others… but basically a family of sorts,” Michael answered as he explained about the plans. He thought that Jason was bringing his girlfriend Daisy and there was a chance that Nat and Rhoda would be over if things later in this day went well.
“What can I bring?” Mick asked as he rubbed his hands together.
“Wine,” Michael smiled as he laughed slightly. “I think you will have good taste in it. Kita is going to take care of dessert… she won’t tell me what she is making…”
Nikita leaned over and kissed Michael’s cheek. She was happy but Mick wasn’t sure if he liked how quiet she was. But for now, she seemed content.
“Adam is going to help Walter with almost rest of the meal… we are eating like dinner… not lunchtime… so not too early,” Michael continued to explain the plans. Mick nodded his head. “I should get going… I guess I have to find furniture and things… places will deliver today, right?”
“The house has some basic furniture,” Michael replied as he stood up. He went to a drawer and pulled out an envelope. He placed it on the table. “For other things you may need.”
“You don’t need to do this,” Mick pushed the envelope back. Nikita extended her hand and pushed it back to Mick. He realized then that it wasn’t Michael doing this, but rather Nikita. He took the envelope and shoved it into his pocket. “Thank you.”
“Mick,” Michael spoke as the man stood up. Mick blinked and looked right at Michael. “Yes?”
“Are you still going by Mick? I know that your name was Martin…”
“I am Mick,” Mick replied as he slipped into the hallway. He turned around and looked at Michael. “I have to come over later… I promised Adam that I was going to help him with something.”
“It better not be internet dating,” Michael deadpanned and then he grinned broadly. “Adam told me about the model car that you were going to help him with. After dinner should be fine.”
Michael took Nikita’s tea cup away from her and rinsed it in the sink. He felt her hands wrap around his waist. He turned and held her for some time. He pulled away and kissed the top of her head. “That went well.”
“Yes, it did,” Nikita agreed as she nodded her head. She looked down at Michael’s chest and then back at up at him. “So Tom is still coming over, right?”
“We don’t have to talk to Nat and Rhoda today,” Michael offered and Nikita shook her head. “We have to do this.”
“I agree,” Michael nodded his head while he sighed. He just wondered if it was still too soon.
