Michael wrapped his arms around Nikita as she stirred in the process that meant that she was waking up. The previous day had been difficult, but Michael tried to focus on the positives: Nikita got through Adam’s event, Nikita told him that she was having a flash back and didn’t hide it, and ultimately Nikita admitted what secret was hidden in her head and impacting her current thoughts.
She didn’t have much to eat a dinner last night, but Nikita still had some. She even enjoyed some ice cream with Adam. Sleep wasn’t hard either, which Michael had fretted about for some time. He worried that the flashes would come back while she slept, but they hadn’t.
Michael watched as Nikita’s eyes opened up. She looked towards him and gently smiled. “What a good way to wake up…”
Michael kissed her cheek and Nikita squirmed slightly. “Why are you holding me so tightly?”
“Just so you know that I’m here,” Michael stated as he leaned his head down towards Nikita. He had lots of thought son his mind, but he didn’t think that now was the right time to start that discussion. He was just glad that Nikita had been able to sleep through the night without any other flashes. He just wanted time for Nikita to be ok.
“You are wondering what else I found out in those files,” Nikita whispered several minutes later as she rolled her head away from Michael’s. Michael felt his breath hitch and he knew that he could not lie. “Yes.”
Nikita took some long breathes. Michael wasn’t sure what that meant. He didn’t know if Nikita was going to comment further or if she was waiting for him to ask a question. The silence was difficult but the uncertainty of what was right was even more difficult to navigate.
“I don’t think I can just recall what those facts were when I want too,” Nikita shook her head slightly. She then rolled her body to look at Michael. “If you would have asked me about Peter and Sasha a couple days ago… I don’t know if I would have really known…”
Michael leaned his head forward so their foreheads were touching. “That must be how your mind handled the information that you read…. To protect you…”
“And the baby,” Nikita finished as her eyes closed slightly. She opened them and leaned her head back slightly so she could look into Michael’s eyes. “And I probably took all of the information off of the databases.”
“I know that this information about Peter and Sasha was not in the databases that Jason has access too,” Michael nodded his head slightly but he didn’t break that physical contact with Nikita. He shifted and moved so he was even touching more of her, knowing that she needed to feel grounded right now.
“I don’t have other copies of Section databases,” Nikita stated as she cleared her throat. “If that is what you are wondering about.”
“I wasn’t,” Michael rasped as he shook his head slightly from side to side. “I think if you had that information you would have turned it over so you wouldn’t have to talk about it.”
“The other things I have are to protect me… us… in case…” Nikita drifted off and Michael squeezed Nikita’s arms. He understood. He had done the same for easily four years and had only recently started to back off on the six locations of spare plans that he had for himself and Adam. “I have some resources still, Kita.”
“I know,” Nikita replied back and Michael shivered. He had no doubt that Nikita knew exactly where they were too.
“So…” Michael stated after a moment. Nikita turned her head slightly so that her cheek rested against Michael’s. He could feel the dampness that was on the cheek and knew that it was proof of a few tears.
“I might have these flashes… and recall information…” Nikita squeezed her eyes shut. “At least…. It’s sort of making sense now… but I fear that I have different types of flashes… is that possible?”
“With Section? Yeah… I understand what you are saying,” Michael replied as he shifted his body as his back spasmed slightly. “There are those memories that are truly PTSD memories… probably from missions and your childhood… and then there are those bits of information that you learned… your psyche tucked that information deep, deep inside… for your own well-being…”
Nikita exhaled deeply and blinked her eyes. “And now I’m safe.”
“Yes,” Michael whispered as his heart swelled with hope that this was the break thru. To hear Nikita to say that she was safe, especially as he held her in his arms, was unexpected, but he felt that it was the moment that things really started to turn around fully for Nikita. It had to be!
They stayed there in each other’s arms until Nikita’s stomach started to growl. Even then, they both waited until Michael’s body started to react similarly. Nikita shifted away and eased Michael’s arms off of her body. “I guess we need to eat.”
“Yeah…”
