Jason knocked on the bathroom door and watched as Michael pulled his head up from the seat of the toilet. “Ah... Nikita is going to be ok… Ellie said that she’ll hurt for a while… and she should only need blood from Davenport…”
Michael turned and sat on the floor, looking up at Jason. For a moment, he almost thought it was Birkoff. “Nikita called you.”
“Yeah,” Jason nodded his head slightly. “To tell me that it was ok to take Adam back here…”
“And because you were trying to break into her system,” Michael commented. Jason jerked his head back and started to shake it negatively from side to side. “Oh no… I wasn’t doing that… I know much better than that.”
Michael leaned forward and rubbed the floor with his hands. “No… she said that she needed to remind you…”
“To not break into that system? Hell, Michael… half the time I didn’t touch that system. It was doing too much and it was so powerful… I knew not to touch it,” Jason stepped into the bathroom and cleared his throat. “It was better than some of the things that I had access to inside of Section.”
Michael blinked his eyes and he rubbed his forehead. “I don’t understand… why she would say that… and why she hides things…”
Jason fumbled around and squatted finally. “I think... she doesn’t want to burden anyone else with things. At least, that’s what she once said while she was apologizing for calling me Birkoff.”
Michael was confused and Jason finally sat down on the floor in front of Michael. “Well… after things happened in Section… she called me Birkoff more than she wanted to admit… and I tried not to get upset. I asked her why she didn’t want to talk about him and she said that she didn’t want to burden anyone with her pain and her memories… that she had learned that it was best to keep it to herself…”
“No… Nikita was never good at keeping things…” Michael drifted off and he closed his eyes. “Damn… I taught her that.”
“Section just reinforced something that was already going on inside of her,” Jason shook his head slightly. “She could have found someone to tell about her mother… but she never did. She never told anyone about her childhood. She could have been taken away from her mother… and maybe that was scary, but it would have been the right thing for her.”
Michael pushed himself up from the floor and turned to look in the mirror. “It was scary leaving Adam behind tonight… but the thought of Nikita out there with me… that scared me too… not because I wasn’t sure what she would do… but it scared me that something would happen to her… and I know that she deserves being out… but I fear that we won’t ever get pass this point.”
“Being up here isn’t going to help her,” Jason stated as he shrugged his shoulders as he looked up from the floor. “She has given us all something… She gave me my brother… and a life now…”
Michael splashed water on his face and dried it off. He swallowed hard as he forced himself to go downstairs. He heard Nikita screaming and groaning for some time and now it was just her tears. He walked into the kitchen just as Davenport was finishing up his transfusion and Walter was rolling up his sleeve. “I thought she wasn’t going to need more.”
“I told Ellie my Sugar needs the good stuff…” Walter stated and Ellie looked at Walter. “I finished… and she is fine…”
Michael looked at Nikita as her head was down on the table and she was crying. The stitches were two long lines on her right shoulder and they still needed to be cleaned and then bandaged. Michael touched her arm and leaned down towards her. “I’m sorry, Kita…”
Nikita turned her head away from him. Michael stayed right there. “I’m right here, Kita… and we are going to get through this too…”
“Maybe now isn’t the time,” Ellie stated as she walked over with the supplies to bandage the stitches up. “I could use a shirt for her.”
“Have Adam get one,” Michael directed and Ellie stood there and pulled out some medicine. “Nikita… I’m going to give you an antibiotic… and maybe in an hour we can get you some pain medication.”
“I’m fine,” Nikita hissed as she felt Ellie inject the medicine. She placed her head back down again and everyone waited as Nikita went to sleep. Ellie shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe I started with the pain medication.”
