Michael put the phone down on the table and looked over at Davenport. “I’m not going to call Jason.”

Davenport shrugged his shoulders, “I didn’t say that you should.”

“But you want me to find out what Nikita meant by that statement,” Michael pointed out as he looked at the phone. He had called Davenport because he knew some of what was going on. Then Michael explained as much as he knew to Davenport. Davenport thought it should be Walter that Michael called, but Michael didn’t think so. Walter would have been hot to trot about going full force to find their daughter, and that wasn’t what was needed right now.

“I can’t believe that you didn’t know,” Davenport shrugged his shoulders lightly. “You’ve known her…”

“Our time in Section wasn’t really spent talking about our past,” Michael snapped and Davenport arched an eyebrow and waited. He saw Michael drop his shoulders and he exhaled. “You always researched recruits.”

“And there were lots of recruits that did not have a lot of information,” Michael pointed out as he rubbed his hands and looked at the phone. He pushed it away. “I don’t need Jason to find out for me.”

“Nikita is going to tell you?”

“Yes,” Michael nodded his head up and down. “She will.”

“Really?” Davenport shook his head from side to side. He leaned forward. “I’m sorry that this is happening…”

“Don’t,” Michael corrected Davenport right away. “And don’t ever say that to Nikita.”

“What can I do?”

Michael rubbed his hand across his face and he looked at Davenport before shrugging his shoulders. He wasn’t sure why he asked Davenport to come and talk to him. Michael wasn’t sure if there was anything that Davenport could do right at this moment.

“How about I take Adam to the store for some last minute present shopping?” Davenport suggested. Michael swallowed and shook his head. Davenport sat still and tilted his head to the side. “He is going to know that something is going on so I might as well get him out of the house for a couple hours… this is too damn fresh for him to be declaring to Nikita he knows that she is faking it.”

Michael finally jerked his head up and down. He looked at Davenport and rolled forward. “Ah… is Ellie… around?”

“I let her in the back door,” Davenport nodded his head up and down. After Michael had called him, Davenport remembered that Ellie had been going over to see Nikita and discuss her baking habit. Davenport saw nothing wrong with Nikita baking, but lots of others did. Realizing that Ellie could be there with Nikita, he waited for a while and then called her. That was about the time that Ellie had left the house and wasn’t sure what was going on. “I told her, Michael.”

“I didn’t ask you not too,” Michael quickly stated as he stood up and looked at the door that used to be the entrance to his lab but was now the entrance to Davenport’s space. “I… I may…”

“Need her,” Davenport completed as he nodded his head. “She isn’t going to be leaving any time soon.”

Michael stood there as there was nothing more to say. Davenport stood up and walked towards the front of the house, clearly to wait for Adam. Knowing that he couldn’t avoid it and he couldn’t ask Jason to find out for him, Michael mounted the stairs.

But Nikita wasn’t in their room. Michael went to the window and saw that the alarm was still in place and he worried that she had bypassed systems and was out there in the world. Michael swallowed hard and walked out into the hallway, about to call out to Davenport to call his men to find out how Nikita slipped out when he saw the guest bedroom slightly open.

Michael pushed the door open and he didn’t see Nikita t first.

He saw all the wrapped gifts.

“It’s not crazy,” Nikita stated as she turned from her side where her back had been facing the door. She sat up and wiped at her eyes that had showed evidence of abundance of crying. Michael looked around the room and how high the gifts were stacked. “I... I overdid it my first real Christmas too…”

“For Adam,” Nikita stated as she sat up and pulled her legs around her chest. “I bought for everyone.”

“You don’t have to give them gifts, Kita…. You gave them so much more,” Michael spoke as he sat down on the edge of the bed. Nikita looked over her knees to Michael and swallowed. “I bought them gifts so I didn’t buy her gifts.”

Michael shivered and allowed his mind to think for a moment. “I bought her something.”

Nikita blinked her eyes and shook her head. “How? How could you do that? We don’t… and now…”

“I knew better than to buy it… but I saw this doll… and it seemed like something that I think that you would have liked when you were a child… and I think our daughter is going to be magical…. That she will have overcome things… because you have… and I had to buy it,” Michael explained.

Nikita hugged her legs tighter and shook her head slightly. “I wouldn’t stop shopping for her, Michael… I found myself in the girl’s clothing... not knowing how big she is… or if she has blonde or brown hair… or if she looks more like you… or me… and I saw toys that I know that are too young for her…. But I never got the chance to even look at…”

“I do it too, Kita,” Michael rasped as he reached out and squeezed her knees. “You aren’t alone… I’ve been there myself.”

“But… you never…”

“You never told me either,” Michael pointed out as he moved closer. “There seems to be more that you haven’t told me about.”

Nikita didn’t move and she didn’t flinch. “Michael… you didn’t have that life…”

“We need to share things, Kita,” Michael pointed out and Nikita nodded her head slightly. Michael exhaled and nodded his head. “When can you talk about it?”

“How about now?”
