Michael had pulled in some equipment into the vaulted room as he had pulled out the bag that Nikita had somehow preserved. She was correct, he would be able to get the DNA of their child somewhere in this contents. But in the same instance, Michael did not doubt that Nikita could have done the work to extract the DNA herself. He knew that there was a lot more going on here than just his skill being used.

Nikita hadn’t left the vault, but she stood in the corner furtherest away from where Michael was and somehow she was working on a laptop that had seemingly came out of the wall, but Michael didn’t know where it had been to start with. This whole building was a contradiction of what it looked and Michael couldn’t help but realize that Nikita was a lot like that.

“What are you working on, Kita?” Michael asked as he drifted away from the bag as he was not ready to open it and sift through the contents. For now, he was interested in the other compartments that were in the area that he was. There were some things that Michael knew to be things that she must have smuggled out of Section One before it was destroyed.

“Checking the solar panels… making sure that this building hasn’t been detected… I don’t need one of those Google maps cars driving pass and charting this building…” Nikita spoke as she didn’t lift her head. Michael half believed Nikita. He also knew that she couldn’t stand to turn and look at him right now.

“You got some of Walter’s inventions out…” Michael stated and that caused Nikita’s head to snap around to look at him. “I wish you wouldn’t go through those other areas.”

“Are you going to stop me?” Michael inquired and Nikita turned her head back to the computer. “I had to get some of his stuff out. Most of his inventions are how this building is hidden… why no one can see the solar panels… I feel bad not doing something to make them more mass produced…”

Michael knew that Nikita was fearful that if she did get them mass produced that it would be used for bad or would lead to this building being found. “You know… I’m really tired and I’m not properly prepared to work on this sample.”

“Sample,” Nikita nervously chuckled. “It’s waste… it’s a passed placenta…”

“But it is a sample,” Michael spoke as he could see Nikita’s body twitching with nerves. He hoped that this was not going to lead to Nikita’s cramps coming back.

“Fine,” Nikita concisely replied as she continued to type. “We’ll stay until you are ready.”

Michael looked at the storage unit next to where he had retrieved this bag. He touched the edge and the door opened up without a sound. Nikita obviously didn’t know that he had done that. He stepped to the side slightly and exhaled slowly. “Maybe we should go to bed?”

“I’m not done here,” Nikita answered as she still didn’t turn to look Michael in the eye. Michael didn’t reply. Instead, he started to search the container from top to bottom. It was empty at the top. Pristine stainless steel at the top with shelves. In fact, the whole area was empty except the very bottom where something did not match up with the rest of the building. If anything, it matched the outside of the building. It was a rusty red toolbox. Michael squatted and opened the container, almost expecting it to squeal and audibly tell Nikita that she was doing something that she probably didn’t want him to be doing.

Pushing a rag to the side, Michael had a shock to find a large knife that clearly had been cutting something. There was still tissue on the steel and Michael turned his head to look at Nikita. “Is this a Mad Dog Knife – the Advanced Tactical Assault Knife – or did Walter make it to look like a Mad Dog?”

Nikita turned and saw Michael holding the large knife that she never wanted to see again.

She had shot him first. Ethan was dead after weeks of Nikita putting it off. He had seen what she had to do to Pimp and yet he stayed with her. It shouldn’t have surprised her. In her rationality of picking him to be one of the two men to be her guards as Section was eliminated, she had reviewed numerous surveys that were made mandatory to be answered. Ethan had been asked the question ‘If you were given an option to resume a normal life outside of Section, what would you do?’

The answer was clearly written. ‘Leaving is not an option. Death is the only way out. I have no option to go back to a normal life.’

In the end, as Nikita had pulled the gun on Ethan for the second time, he knew this time that he was going to die. He didn’t even open his mouth to say anything. The first time, he had talked Nikita out of killing him at that moment. He had somehow used his words to get just a few more weeks. He didn’t even expect Nikita to say that she was sorry for what she was going to do.

She had killed many before Ethan. She wasn’t even sure if she would never kill again in the future. But nothing ever felt like it had when she pulled that trigger. It was almost as painful as when Michael made himself cry tears of blood. It was a look that would haunt Nikita in her sleep and she knew that it would. In fact, she would be disappointed if it did not haunt her most of the days of the rest of her life.

Yet, just putting the bullet through the man’s head was not enough. She had made sure that the kill was painless to him. But Nikita still had to get rid of the body as she had done with Ethan’s own help to Pimp’s body.

It had been hours from the time that she had shot Ethan before she could pull out the knife and other tools she would need to break the body apart. She pushed all of the emotions and thoughts aside as she started to cut into the flesh, knowing that she would have the blood all over her body.

As she worked, often her mind thought about how easy it would be for her to just cut herself and to end the misery. She did not know how she was given the reprieve. Then she wasn’t even sure if she truly was given a reprieve. Maybe this was all a test to see what she would do. Maybe she would be killed in the future.

Somehow the knife never hurt her body as she took care to make sure to stay as neat as possible and she tried to respect the body that she was mutilating.

“Kita?” Michael asked as he placed the knife back down into the box and stood up. Nikita pushed the laptop back into the wall. “It was amongst the tools I used to dispose of Ethan.. my last guard…. I couldn’t use the acid that he suggested… I had to respect his body still…”

Michael watched as Nikita pushed her hands down her body. “I’m going to go take a shower… so I can sleep. I’ll see you upstairs.”

Michael nodded his head as Nikita escaped the room. He was sure that this was too much for Nikita. It was too soon. He wished that she would have sent him on his own. Michael leaned his head against a door and swallowed hard, knowing that he was sinking in this quicksand that he was now in.
