Nikita leaned back against the car seat as they pulled out of the airport parking lot. They had been gone just a day over a full week, but Nikita looked out at the streets they were passing and knew that things were different now.

The building in Florida was no longer. Nikita knew that it was necessary. Davenport had taken all of the important things out and then Michael made sure that it was destroyed to the ashes. Nikita didn’t watch it happen, but she had approved it happening.

It was part of her past and it was time to think of the future.

“I guess we need to tell Dr. Hlad that I am taking the medicine,” Nikita spoke as she watched Michael pull up to a stop light. The tree to her right was just starting to turn slightly yellow. It was the first sign of fall beside the slightly chilly air that they had arrived home too.

“No rush to do that, Kita,” Michael spoke as he looked at Nikita. “I’d like you to see her for a real physical…”

“Michael,” Nikita groaned as she rolled her head to see Michael grinning. He had anticipated her reaction. “I don’t feel bad.”

“That was probably one of my hardest things to get over. By physicals aren’t about doctors checking on our progress with fat to muscle ratios and checking on our reproductive prohibits… you obviously got passed an exam or two at Section… It’s about making sure that we are healthy for everyone in our lives,” Michael explained as he touched Nikita’s knee and then pulled it away when the light changed.

“So you willingly go to a doctor?” Nikita questioned and Michael chuckled. He was perhaps the one that avoided MedLab the most. “His name is Dr. Hillard. However, knowing that Dr. Hlad was Section… I might go to her so I can go over some concerns I have.”

“Concerns?” Nikita asked as she was slightly nervous now. Was something wrong with Michael?

“Just some scar tissue around where my tracker came out,” Michael sighed as he again moved his hand to squeeze Nikita’s knee. “It’s just easier to discuss things like bullet wounds and such…”

“Section did so much to us,” Nikita rasped as she rubbed her hands together. “You got over being scared of doctors?”

“I had too,” Michael responded. “I had Adam to take care of and being sick wasn’t an option.”

“I’ve had colds… I don’t remember having colds while in Section,” Nikita complained and Michael nodded his head. “I know that they gave us something in the food.”

Nikita swung her head from side to side. “God... I was in charge and I didn’t know that.”

“Maybe it stopped at some point,” Michael shrugged his shoulders. “Or the doctors just didn’t think you needed to know.”

“There were so many fights between departments and so many departments working against each other,” Nikita rubbed her forehead as she turned to look out the window. “I tried to fix that before they had me start shutting things down. Shutting down made things even worse.”

“That is the past, Kita. I’ll help you figure out this whole future thing,” Michael pointed out as he turned into their housing plan. “You can be anything now.”

“I never had that chance in my life,” Nikita admitted as she moved her hands from her head to her elbows. “I guess that is one good thing that came from Section.”

Michael didn’t comment as he could think of a couple more things that were good for Nikita. But he also knew that Nikita didn’t have much of a future from her life on the streets that Section had plucked her out of to bring her into Section.

Turning onto their street, Michael slowed down as he saw twinkling white lights around the small shrubs that were framing his entrance way. He had a sense that Adam had talked Walter into a plan and Michael wasn’t sure if that was good.

Operatives didn’t like surprises.

“What’s going on at your house?” Nikita questioned as she sat up a bit more, noticing what Michael had noticed.

“I’m not sure,” Michael admitted as he pulled closer to the sidewalk and studied. He then shook his head as he knew that he had to correct one thing. “And don’t think of it as my house… it’s our house.”

Nikita tilted her head. “Is that a wreath on your door?”
