“I don’t know who was driving me more nuts, but what matters is that this man could be David Fanning… and he is in some convalescent home and it doesn’t sound good… but I got to get eyes on him,” Davenport explained as his suitcase rolled behind him. Michael had dogged him the entire time about the details and barely had gotten the steaks off of the stove before they had caught fire.

Nikita had called for pizza.

“So when are you going to be back?” Adam asked as he wiped his hands off from the greasy pizza. Davenport had grabbed a slice, but Adam was the only other person who had ate so far. Davenport turned and stopped to look at Adam. “As quick as I can. I absolutely hate London. It rains all the time.”

Nikita stood against the wall and didn’t say a word. She hadn’t said a word since things happened. It wasn’t that anyone had stopped to hear her opinion on the matter.

Madeline was still as her chocolate eyes almost seemed to twinkle with delight of putting her operatives into a situation that neither liked. It was almost a game. “Under what pretense? We’re asking this woman to betray her husband…”

Nikita was beside Madeline and something told her of someone else in the area. But Nikita wanted to stop this. It was wrong.

“..and endanger her own life. What emotion besides intense passion would motivate her to take such a drastic action?” Madeline questioned as she slightly changed her facial expression, hoping to aid Nikita into the right direction.

“ So, he seduces her to get to Fanning. What happens to her after that?” Nikita asked as she couldn’t believe that she did care about Lisa’s feelings getting hurt during this manipulation.

“That’s not your concern,” Madeline verbally shrugged.

Nikita couldn’t stop looking at Madeline. But she also knew that Michael was there. That was who she had realized was nearby. Madeline knew this too, but her chocolate eyes were studying Nikita also, challenging her to say something more.

“Your evaluation was very accurate. I spent most of the time listening. She just needs a little kindness,” Michael spoke from above as he didn’t have to announce his presence to either of the women below.
Almost disgusted, Nikita used her words to lash out as the only way she could. “Leave it to Section One to hand out a little kindness.”

“You’re seeing her again?” Madeline inquired as her eyes smiled with delight.

“Tomorrow. Three o’clock,” Michael replied.

“What do you plan on doing once you get there? It could be a ruse… maybe he knows…” Michael quizzed Davenport as he blocked Davenport’s exit from the house.

“Damn, Michael. You act like I haven’t thought of that. I’ll have a plenty long flight to figure out more details. But I won’t be leading him back here, if that is what you are worried about,” Davenport fired back as he stood there firm. He turned to look at Nikita. “I got this under control, Nikita.”

”Are you wondering what I'm going to do?” Fanning was having too much fun holding Nikita as he was. The cabin in the woods was cold and damp. It was clear that Nikita was uncomfortable and that pleased David Fanning even more. “Don't bother, 'cause I'll tell ya. I'm going to stay in the woods because I like the isolation. I think it'll be great for Lisa, too, because she can get used to things again.”

“Used to being your slave, you mean,” Nikita fired back, knowing that she had to get David to react in order for her to see any sort of reaction from him. She was sore, but she wasn’t down and out at this point. She had plenty more time in Section to learn things, and Michael was her trainer.

“Yeah. Sit down! Sit!” David yelled after he knew that he had given Nikita a good bit of punishment that she wouldn’t push her luck. He laughed as Nikita sat down as directed. “That's a good little doggie.”

“You really are scum,” Nikita managed to reply. But she had heard phrases like the one that David used right there all of her life, but it still didn’t mean that it didn’t sting some.

“You know what? You're wrong. I am a man in love. The first time I ever saw Lisa I knew I was suppose to be with her and Lisa knew she was meant for me. Now, there was a time I wanted revenge, but, you know what? If you disappear, Section will come after me. But if I send you back with a cover story they won't -- if they think I'm dead. Everything will be fine. And you and Michael can't exactly make up a story, not since Michael's gone AWOL looking for Lisa, right? So, maybe it's best to send you back alive. Or not. Hey,” Fanning explained everything as he was having too much fun having the power. He was always a man who wanted to have the power.

“Boom! You know what, it doesn't really matter what happens as long as I get Lisa back, and I'm gonna. And there's not a damn thing you can do about that, now, is there? Well, it’s almost that time. Don't go anywhere,” David completed as he left the cabin, feeling as if he had won.

“Look, he isn’t going to be a problem… he doesn’t know me,” Davenport groaned. “I’m going to be late for the plane, Michael.”

“I’d like to know that you had some tactical support… backup,” Michael rasped and Davenport snorted. “You can’t go as my backup.”

“I could,” Adam offered and both men replied with a solid loud “No.”

Nikita rubbed her neck as she shook her head. She just wanted Davenport to leave at this point. In ways her body felt like she had been beaten by Fanning all over again.

”How long have you been standing there?” Nikita inquired as she saw Michael standing in the woods, almost casually.

“A while.”

Nikita was stunned. Michael could have ended this. “Why didn't you shoot him?”

Nikita had been held by Fanning. He was threatening to kill her and Michael had just allowed him to do that. She could have died and Michael would have just been standing there. “I knew he wouldn't kill you.”

“But Lisa...” Nikita protested as she just didn’t want to really think about what Michael had said and done about her life in those moments.

“She'll be fine.”

“We've got to help her,” Nikita started to move in the direction where the obsessed David Fanning had gone with his estranged wife.

“Nikita,” Michael’s voice was cold as the air snapped with electricity. Nikita could feel the gun in Michael’s hand pointed at her before she could see it. Her stomach shriveled up as she stared at Michael with her mouth completely dry as she tried to process what was going on. “You're going to kill me?”

His eyes turned slightly green and ever so slightly grew tenderer. “ No. I'll shoot you in the leg, and carry you back. But, it'll be easier for both of us if you walk.”

The gun was lowered and Nikita shook her head slightly while she thought of the danger that Lisa was in at that moment. “You know, you're either insane, or the cruelest man who ever lived.”

“I gave her the isotope,” Michael calmly reported as they started to make their way out of the woods.

“So she can poison him,” Nikita started to put the pieces together of what was inside of Michael’s head during his decision making.

“The only way she can truly be free is to kill him herself,” Michael answered. Nikita winced with that statement. It was a cliché. Nikita didn’t like it.

“Is that what she said, Michael? Or is that what you made her believe?” Nikita challenged Michael. She would have never done the first time they had a mission with Fanning. But now, Nikita was different, Michael was different.

“Let's go,” Michael directed as he also indicated that he was done talking about the situation.

“Kill him,” Nikita spoke up as she stepped into the hallway, her hands folded in front of her waist. Davenport leaned his head forward. “What?”

“His wife obviously didn’t poison him and kill him as Michael had hoped. She could be out there too. Make this easy and end it all,” Nikita outlined as she stood there with calm and coolness that Michael had only seen a few times, but it was probably what had allowed her to be Operations when he wasn’t there.

“Oh, I like that idea!” Adam announced as he clapped his hands together.

“Go to your room,” Michael pointed and Adam walked slowly pass his father before smiling at Nikita. “I think your idea makes the most sense. Only one trip for Davenport… and the trouble is eliminated.”

“No one is going to kill that man, Adam,” Michael corrected as he walked between Nikita and Davenport. He watched his son and when Adam looked back, Michael reminded Adam of one more thing, “And don’t think you aren’t going to get punished for purposely failing that test!”

Nikita turned her head to focus back on Davenport. “If he was able to hide for this long, he could be completely functioning. Don’t waste time.”

“Have you heard yourself? You just asked Davenport to kill a man in front of my son,” Michael exclaimed as he was stunned and shocked. “Just figure out if it is David Fanning.”

“And find out where Lisa’s body is too while you are at it,” Nikita retorted as she stepped backwards. Michael cleared his throat and turned to focus more on Nikita. “Are you ok?”

Nikita rubbed her elbows. “I slipped back into mission mode… Ah… I need to go to the bathroom. And of course I don’t think we should kill him… if he poses no threat.”

Nikita rushed down the hallway and into the bathroom. She waited as she could hear Michael and Davenport talking in the hallway. She silently opened the medicine cabinet and grabbed the Ativan. Knowing that Michael would know if she took the full pill, Nikita broke it in half and placed the big half on her tongue while placing the bottle back into the cabinet.
