“Michael, you left your cell phone at home? Now that is just not like you,” Davenport gloated when he finally got Michael to pick up the phone at the lab. Michael rolled his chair away from the desk as he didn’t need to stare at the machine as it started to process. In fact, he had hours that he could be doing other things but he was glued to that machine.

“Adam was in a foul mood this morning,” Michael sighed heavily. “He wouldn’t talk to me in the car. I don’t get it at all.”

“He is a teenager.”

“Not yet,” Michael corrected quickly and Davenport chuckled. “Well, I think I’d take your teenager over any day of trying to track Mick Schtoppel.”

“Jason told me this morning that he finally confirmed that he left London,” Michael spoke as he rubbed his forehead. He wished that Davenport would have been able to get in touch with Mick. It could make things easier. “So are you heading back?”

“I’m already in New York. I’m on a layover but I should be back at the house by early afternoon,” Davenport was pleased with this report. He was surprised that he got out of London so quickly but he was relieved to be finally off duty for a bit.

“Well, that will give Phillip a break. Although until today, Nikita really didn’t go out,” Michael reported to his friend. Davenport paused and when Michael was quiet he knew that something more was going on. “So Nikita already lost Phillip today.”

“Of course,” Michael retorted sarcastically. “But Phillip likes her so he is still trying to figure out where she went.”

“Where did she say she was going?”

“Somewhere special,” Michael replied and Davenport choked slightly. “Really?”

“I know that it is a lie,” Michael sternly spoke as he rubbed his neck. He should have called Nikita out on it, but he just didn’t feel like it. “It will be good for you to be back. Maybe Nikita will get back to the way it was before this Fanning stuff came up.”

“He is on a respirator now, Michael. He has weeks to live… if not just days,” Davenport relayed the information that he wasn’t sure if he was going to tell Nikita. “So Nikita is…”

“She is hiding something,” Michael whispered as he stood up and looked at the machine. “I can tell... but she is doing a damn good job at stonewalling me.”

“She was Operations, Michael.”

“Don’t remind me,” Michael rasped as he touched the machine. “I may finally have gotten DNA. I told her… I feel like I shouldn’t have done that.”

Davenport paused for a second and cleared his throat. “She would have figured out that you weren’t hiding something from her.”

“I know so I told her,” Michael admitted as he shook his head. “I just feel… I feel like I keep on doing everything wrong, Davenport. I’m missing stuff and I don’t know how I am missing stuff.”

“I think it is just because this is the dream that you wanted… so you are willing to handle whatever Nikita is dishing out… because you aren’t going to leave her. You’ll accept anything that happens,” Davenport theorized and Michael lifted his head. It sounded about right. He didn’t want Nikita to leave and he would tell Nikita the truth every single time and she could lie to him and Michael would just take it. “When did you get so good at this stuff?”

“I was always good but I just learned to keep my mouth shut while inside of Section…. Although I showed it a bit more when Nikita was in charge,” Davenport chuckled as Michael heard noise in the background. “Your flight?”

“ Yep,” Davenport sighed happily. “I’m taking a vacation, Michael.”

“I thought London was a vacation,” Michael joked and Davenport huffed. “I want some real food… and some real sleep…”

“Food won’t be a problem. Nikita has started to cook from Walter’s recipes. You can have some crepes when you get home,” Michael chuckled as he thought about how many crepes there were on that table.

“Oh no… Walter’s crepe recipe was like for 100 servings…” Davenport rasped as he remembered when Walter would make it for the operatives. “Tell me that she cut the recipe.”

“Nikita isn’t good at math.”
