Ellie was down on her knees before she really processed what had happened. She touched Nikita’s back and then turned her slightly to turn Nikita onto her back. There was mark on her head but Ellie wasn’t as concerned about that as what she saw, which she was almost sure was a broken collarbone.

“What happened? Should I call an ambulance?” Davenport questioned and Ellie looked up at him. “No… no ambulance… we’ll wait until Michael gets here…”

“But what happened?” Davenport rushed out as he leaned over and looked at Ellie as she prodded at Nikita’s shoulder, confirming mostly that Nikita’s collar bone was broken. “I need a lot of ice in a big towel.”

“I’ll get it,” Adam called out from the hallway. Davenport paced two steps away from Nikita and then two steps back. “What happened?”

Ellie groaned and knew that she had to answer Davenport. “I think she worked herself so up… and whatever was in that last PTSD flash bothered her… and then her body just got flushed with that Ativan that she took…”

“But what do we do now? She was completely trapped… and she wasn’t hearing us for some amount of time,” Davenport fretted as he just never wanted to see that again in his life.

“Davenport, I don’t know what to do next. All I can do is first aid,” Ellie stressed firmly. Then she felt Davenport’s hand on her shoulder as he pushed her back away from Nikita. “What do you mean you don’t know what to do? You are the doctor. You have to help her.”

“I’d commit her,” Ellie hissed as Adam came back into the room. She looked at Adam as he passed the ice over to her. “Adam… I’m not going to do that… and you should be in bed…”

“She needs my bad,” Adam pointed out as he dropped his head and walked to the stairs, but he didn’t go all the way up. He sat down on them and leaned his head against the banister, his only accommodation to the fact that he didn’t feel well at all.

“Commit her?” Davenport hissed his whisper. Ellie leaned back on her heels. “I’ve never had a patient have such violent PTSD flashes… and the one that was anywhere like this… he was committed… But I can’t do that…”

“Because she was Operations,” Davenport whispered and Ellie rubbed her forehead. She wanted to attend to Nikita more, but Davenport was taking her attention. “Not just because she was Operations. Because she wouldn’t be able to talk about what she is remembering… and that’s the treatment Davenport…”

“But clearly she isn’t,” Davenport pointed out and he walked away. “What do we do now?”

“We get her on the recliner… We wait for her to wake up,” Ellie directed as she looked around before grabbing the thin blanket off of the couch. She pulled Nikita up and Davenport finally moved and supported Nikita. Ellie fashioned the tight sling for Nikita’s arm and looked at Davenport. “She is going to have a lot of pain when she wakes up for this break… So let’s move her gently…”

It was as Davenport and Ellie had Nikita in the air that the front door opened. Michael stepped in and saw Adam leaning against the railing, looking to be somewhere between sleeping and crying. “What are you doing home?”

Adam looked at his father and then the tears started to fall. Michael could see his ill pallor and Adam looked weak as he stood up. “The flu.”

“Upstairs,” Michael looked up to the top of the stairs.

“But Dad…”

“Adam,” Michael spoke and Adam turned and walked up the stairs. Michael turned into the room and saw Ellie settle Nikita’s head back into the recliner. “What’s going on?”

Davenport walked to the far side of the room and left Ellie standing there. She pulled away from Nikita and pushed Michael back into the hallway. “She was having a PTSD flash… at least she was having probably multiple flashes… we couldn’t really get her to talk…”

“How did that get her to where she is now? What’s wrong with her arm?” Michael inquired as he wanted to just go to Nikita’s side.

“I think she crashed and her body finally responded to the Ativan that she took,” Ellie paused and licked her lips. “Did you know that she only had one pill left?”

“No,” Michael rasped as he looked at Nikita and turned his head away. “I knew that she wasn’t telling me everything.”

“Why didn’t you do something?” Ellie questioned as she was frustrated. Michael knew that something was wrong and it seemed irresponsible that he didn’t try to stop this from happening. “She was telling me things… I just… I guess I hoped that they were what were truly scaring her… but it was like they were just memories…”

“I’m not going to lie, Michael… I don’t know what to do… but I can’t give her control of the Ativan again… and we shouldn’t let her have any other medicine on her own for a while… So I don’t really know how to stop these flashes… she is going to have to deal with them and talk about them,” Ellie felt her eye twitch with stress. She turned to look at Nikita and then back to Michael. “She passed out hard… I’m almost sure that she has broken her collar bone. We should get that x-rayed.”

“After she wakes up,” Michael spoke and Ellie nodded her head. She did not think that Nikita would handle waking up in a hospital very well right now, even if it was just to confirm that her collar bone was broken. “Ellie…”

“It has to be you,” Ellie pushed her thumb against her eyebrow as her head throbbed with pain. “I don’t know how to get through to her.”
