“Michael, you did what you had to do,” Walter spoke as he waited at the door for Michael to walk in. In the time that had passed, just about three hours, Michael looked like he had aged a decade. He had wanted to bring Nikita back to the house, but she wasn’t going to do that.

Not today.

“She wouldn’t even let me in,” Michael rasped as he walked into the door and looked at the wall where Nikita had him pinned. They had been getting somewhere but things went to hell because Adam was home and Mick was there. If Michael could have just been there with himself, Walter and Nikita, maybe she would be with him right now.

“Rhonda said that she would stay nearby and her friend Ze-Ze is going to look in on Nikita,” Walter spoke as he closed the door and pushed Michael down the hallway. “Do you still have some of that good whiskey?”

“I don’t like it,” Michael spoke and Walter nodded his head. “I wasn’t thinking about you.”

Michael walked into the kitchen and Mick lifted the glass. “I have the whiskey.”

“He made me show, Dad,” Adam looked up from the table. He swallowed hard and rubbed his neck. “Nikita isn’t with you?”

“She wants… she needs time away, Adam,” Michael’s voice cracked. He knew that Rhonda and Ze-Ze were looking in on her, but he also had already called Davenport while Walter had paid cash for Nikita to use the apartment next to Ze-Ze’s. It was furnished and Ze-Ze had gone to the store for some food and some other supplies.

“But next week is Thanksgiving. She’ll be back, right?” Adam inquired and Mick chuckled. “My Popsicle has the perfect birdie to carve the birdie!”

Michael looked at Mick and pulled the bottle out of his hand and groaned. “Mick, this was full.”

“Been a long day,” Mick slurred as he reached a hand out and patted Adam’s back. “And your son is so straight and narrow… wouldn’t even take some.”

“I sure hope not,” Michael exclaimed. “Adam isn’t even a teenager.”

“We were upset. I thought it would help him calm down,” Mick hiccupped as Walter took the bottle out of Michael’s hand to drop it in the recycle bin. “Hell, Mick. I needed some of that.”

“There is other stuff,” Mick hitched his thumb over his shoulder and Walter sighed.

He really didn’t need the drink now.

“I didn’t mean to yell at her, Dad,” Adam fretted as he rubbed his hands on the table. “She was so angry. And hurting you.”

“She didn’t hurt me,” Michael corrected with a slight shake of his head. “I think this is what is known as the bottom, Adam. She can’t hurt any more than she did out in that hallway. Things will start to get better.”

“By Thanksgiving?” Adam tried again to get an answer, but there was silence. Adam slumped and lifted his wet green eyes to his dad’s gaze. “Did showing her the ring make it worse?”

“No,” Michael shook his head as he reached down and engulfed Adam in a hug. He wished that he could be holding Nikita, but this felt good too. “It got all of the truth out on the table.”

“All of it?” Adam rasped as Walter started some coffee. Walter looked over at Michael and shrugged his shoulders. They both prayed that the worse of it was out. “I think this is the biggest part, son. And I’m glad that you aren’t keeping any secrets for me from Nikita.”

Adam pulled away from his dad and rubbed his head. “I have some homework to do… I didn’t want to leave our guest alone.”

Michael could sense that Adam needed time away from things and to decompress. Michael nodded his head and watched as Adam dashed down the hallway. Michael shook his head as he slumped into the chair, almost able to go to sleep at the moment. He was completely drained.

“Sure you don’t want something,” Mick quipped as he looked over to the bottles that he had left out. Michael shook his head. “What are we going to do with you, Mick?”

“Keep me,” Mick nodded his head up and down.

“We can’t let you leave. You’re drunk,” Walter stated as he placed a cup of coffee in front of Mick.

“No… I’m going to remind you what you need to do… and that is a mission plan,” Mick declared as he moved his hands and showed the papers that he had scattered on the table. “Adam told me a whole bunch of stuff… and I have my search plans… so a mission plan is needed to find the baby.”

“No,” Michael shook his head as he took the papers out of Mick’s hands. “That is the last thing we need to do.”

“Will she go back to being the angel?” Walter pondered and Michael shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know, Walter.”

“Angel?” Mick hiccupped again as he looked down the coffee and then looked to Walter. “I don’t feel that good.”

“I wonder why,” Walter rolled his eyes as he sat down. “Michael… what is next?”

“I don’t know.”
