Ellie looked down at the tablet and knocked on the door gently before walking in. There sat Davenport on the examination table. He extended his hand and there was a USB key in it. “Jason pulled this information out of various resources for you.”

Ellie took the memory stick out of his hand and jabbed it into the tablet. She pulled the stool over and sat on it as the information was copying over. “You aren’t here for a physical.”

“No,” Davenport confirmed as he blinked his eyes. Ellie tilted her head to the side. “Why are you here?”

“I’ve been having some really bad headaches. They are starting to scare me,” Davenport admitted as he squeezed the flesh between his thumb and index finger. He rubbed it hard and looked up at Ellie as he cleared his throat. “I haven’t told anyone.”

“They could be stressed induced,” Ellie offered as she set the tablet off to the side as the files continued to load. “You have been doing a lot because of Nikita and you did recently break off a relationship. You also sort of changed careers.”

“I even had a headache during the time that Michael and Nikita asleep,” Davenport shook his head slightly. “I had no stress at that time.”

“Had Nikita asleep?” Ellie asked as she tilted her head to the side. “What do you mean by that?”

“After Michael allowed Nikita to beat him up to almost a pulp getting her home, he thankfully gave her something to sleep for like a day and a half,” Davenport spoke as he shrugged his shoulders. “I thought Michael got that approved by you.”

“Beat Michael to a pulp?” Ellie shook her head. “And what did Michael give Nikita because I told both of them no more drugs.”

“It was something strong. She didn’t wake up that entire time. But he brought her wherever he was, afraid that she would somehow wake up and run,” Davenport sighed. “Ellie… I was having these headaches before I even knew that Nikita was out and that Section was closed.”

Ellie pulled at the tablet and looked at the screen for a moment before putting it back down. “Generalize for me how often you may have had concussions…”

“A lot,” Davenport replied as he sat there. “I never backed down from sparring… and you know Section.”

“They didn’t care much for concussion treatment if a cold operative was otherwise physically able to function,” Ellie frowned as she stood up and pulled out the blood pressure cuff. “But I don’t want to just jump to the conclusion that this has something to do with the concussions, Davenport. What about the rest of your health?”

“I was shot six times. The one time it was with three bullets to my shoulder,” Davenport outlined and Ellie watched the cuff and waited and ran it again before pulling it off. “Did anyone ever mention that you have high blood pressure?”

Davenport shifted his eyes and Ellie sighed heavily. “You are going to need to have a full examination and blood work, Davenport.”

“I was just thinking you’d run some sort of scan…”

“That was Section,” Ellie shook her head slightly. “You are back in traditional medicine. Things take time and sometimes we like to start looking for the simple answers first.”

Davenport looked around and rolled his shoulders back. “I don’t have time today.”

“Then why did you come?” Ellie questioned and then she leaned her head back. “Because you are having one of those headaches now.”

“Motrin isn’t helping.”

“You could double the dose. That would make the dose about the some dose as a prescription,” Ellie pulled out her pen light and flashed it into Davenport’s eyes. He pulled away and pushed her hands away. “I already doubled… well, tripled.”

Ellie exhaled and sat back down on the stool. “Why can’t you get a full exam today?”

“Michael is allowing Nikita to go to her photography lesson with Whitney and I need to be there to run protection in case she runs,” Davenport rubbed at his shoulder. Ellie looked at Davenport and snorted. “I think you can ask for a day off if you have a headache.”

“She hasn’t been out of the house… Michael is going to try to stay with her, but with Nikita…” Davenport drifted off.

“When did this all happen?” Ellie inquired as she wanted to get a sense of the timeframes here.

“She woke up today days ago… so it was like five days ago… and both of them still have pretty good bruises. Nikita’s bruises are from when she was just whaling on Michael… and he just took it all,” Davenport kicked his legs out and looked at his feet. “I can’t believe Michael didn’t tell you. I thought he’d have you over to look at some of his damage… or at least her hands.”

“Oh, I’ll have a discussion with Michael,” Ellie stood up and she leaned against the counter. “I think you need a break from duty, Davenport. And I think you should stay and let me do a full examination.”

“I’m going to be needed there.”

“Are you that afraid that Nikita is going to run?” Ellie inquired and Davenport shook his head as he rubbed his hands against his knees. “Do your knees hurt too?”

“I had one broken and the other one got shot at… they get sore when it’s snowing,” Davenport hitched his head to look out the window. “And Nikita isn’t going to run. That isn’t going to be the problem.”

“What problem requires you to be there for Nikita’s photography lesson?” Ellie questioned as she jotted down to look at Davenport’s knee pain also. She was going to have to get everyone except Nikita in for physical exams. Michael had mentioned some pain where his tracker had come out and she wasn’t sure where it had been removed. Walter at times seemed to be wincing a lot. Taking care of Nikita may be taking a toll on all of them.

Plus Ellie hadn’t received Nikita’s test results yet.

“Whitney is going to be upset. And if Mick shows up, she is going to be furious because that man is awfully hard to take on a good day...”

“Whitney?”

“My mentor who took to Nikita. She isn’t going to like that Nikita isn’t talking and she is going to be mad and I’m going to have to find a way to talk her into keeping Nikita on as a student,” Davenport rattled out as he did finally lift a hand to his forehead and rubbed at his temple. “You need to take a break, Davenport.”

“I just thought I’d be able to get something more…”

“You should ask Michael about that,” Ellie snapped as she slapped the stylus down on the countertop. “He seems to be dulling out medicine like a doctor would.”

“That’s because Nikita needed to sleep,” Davenport pointed out as he stood up. “Look… I’ll try in a couple days to come in for a full exam.”

“You should stay,” Ellie warned and Davenport looked at his watch. “I’m going to be late.”

Ellie couldn’t say anything further as Davenport actually left the room. She was furious about a lot of things and she didn’t know where to start.

But she was also worried about Davenport.

She stepped out and walked to the tiny office. She glanced at the calendar and walked into Dr. Jans Fallon’s office with a knock at the door. “I have something I have to do, Jans. I have two patients coming in about an hour… looks like the flu. Can you check them out?”

“You have been out of the office a lot lately,” Jans commented as he nodded his head up and down. Ellie sighed and smiled. “Thanks.”

Now she only had to figure out where Davenport was going because then she would find the rest of them.
