“Michael,” Nat spoke as he entered the room. Michael moved just his eyes as he had moved the chair closer to bed as Nikita had showed signs of starting to stir about an hour ago. Michael licked his lips and cleared his throat. “Now isn’t the time, Lieutenant.”

“Michael, we’ve worked before a lot. I’ve never questioned anything… but everything about this… about Joe…” Nat stood there as he made sure that the door was shut. Michael was glaring at him and it was clear that Michael was not pleased to be seeing him right now. “I have lots of questions in the department right now.”

“And nothing will link this woman to anything,” Michael indicated and Nat rolled his head to the side. “Even the scene where she got beat up?”

“We don’t know what has happened to her,” Michael replied as he shifted and looked at Nikita. Her legs were slightly moving and he heard a groan faintly release from her lips. “You shouldn’t be here right now. She hasn’t woken up yet.”

“I need answers,” Nat warned.

“Mi?” Nikita’s voice whispered as she turned her head. Michael looked immediately to her face and the pain that was across it.

Nikita fought against the darkness and found it so hard to part her eyes. Nikita always knew how her body felt and knew that right now that she was battered. In fact, it was almost impossible to know of a time that she had felt worse. She was in a haze and just trying to sort her mind out. “Michael?”

“I’m right here, Kita…” Michael spoke as he didn’t care if Nat was in the room right now. This was about helping Nikita. Maybe he would get answers so he could satisfy what Nat was going to need.

Nikita winced as she saw the light. Then it was gone. She did not even realize that Michael had asked Nat to turn the light off. She did not hear that at all. Slowly she opened her eyes again, glimpsed at Michael, and then closed them again. “How long have I been in MedLab?”

Michael tensed as he was not expecting that from Nikita. “You are in a hospital.”

With a groan, Nikita turned her head more towards Michael. She was jumbled. Her thoughts were flashing in her mind and her words felt like they were getting stuck in her throat. Nikita groaned as she pulled a leg up slightly and she felt a hand against her neck. “It wasn’t… a lie…”

Michael exhaled and pulled out the call button to call for a nurse. Hopefully they could help get Nat to leave the room.

“What is she talking about?” Nat asked and Michael didn’t look at the man. That was not his attention. “Kita… you have been hurt and you are in a hospital.”

“I hate MedLab… I want to leave…” Nikita slowly spoke as her head rolled from side to side. She didn’t know what had caused to get her to where she was right now. Nikita opened her eyes a bit more and noticed that the room was not that of MedLab. There was a picture hanging on the wall. “Not MedLab?”

“No,” Michael shook his head back and forth.

“What is MedLab?” Nat demanded as he never had heard of the term.

“Please leave, Nat. She is confused right now. She has a really bad concussion…” Michael declared as Nikita groaned again with the sounds.

“And what are you calling her? Kita? Where did that name come from? How do you know her? Did you know her all of this time?” Nat rattled off his questions as the door opened up and the nurse entered. She smiled at Michael and spoke, “I’ll get the doctor.”

Michael looked at the nurse and silently screamed when she disappeared without taking Nat out of the room.

“Her name is Nikita. I do know her. I don’t know how she became to how she was in the convent. I’m trying to figure it all out,” Michael answered the questions with as short of answers as he could.

Nikita gasped as she rolled her head up. Her mind was swimming with images and memories. From rats, to beating up men, to washing blood off of her hands, to handing over her daughter to Walter, to seeing all of her friends walking out of Section One free from the grasp of Section, to the list of people that had to die, and to the church that did very little to stop all the memories, but was the one place that they did diminish. “No… god…”

Michael pulled down the railing and sat on the edge of the bed as Nikita started to cry and started to paw at her already swollen eyes. “Kita… I’m here… it’s ok… it’s ok….”

“Leave,” Nikita declared as she pushed her hands with all the strength that she could muster, which wasn’t that much, against Michael’s touch. Michael did not leave the side of the bed, but he did drop his hands from Nikita’s body. “Kita… you are injured. You have a concussion… things are going to be jumbled up for a bit.”

The words stopped as she continued to cry, but her mouth drew to a tight line. Michael felt his heart screaming out that this was not what she needed right now. He wanted her to talk. He didn’t care if Nat was there. Nikita clamming up right now was so wrong and was only going to mean that he wasn’t going to have that opening that he had prayed that he would get into figuring out what had happened to her.

“I’m going to get the doctor,” Nat stammered as he was shaken by what was seeing. He had seen the transition of the injured woman in the bed too. One minute he was sure that she was going to start talking and then the next second, she was in shut down mode. She was pushing everyone away and it didn’t chill Nat, it froze him.

Michael slipped off of the bed and put the railing up as Walter walked into the room and the doctor was not far behind. Michael shook his head to Walter slightly and he stayed where he was, where Nikita hadn’t seen him yet.
