Walter rubbed his hands together as he sat in Michael’s house. He wanted to go to the hospital but for now, he was in the house with Jason. He did not like feeling helpless and he turned his head to look at Jason on the computer. “What are you doing?”
“Work,” Jason answered without looking up from the screen.
“Work? As in, not about Nikita?” Walter questioned and Jason turned his head and nodded it up and down. “I’m running scans now through the cameras but there seems to be a lot of Nikita on the cameras…”
“Maybe you should just look at the neighborhood that she is in most frequently and then narrow down from there,” Adam spoke as he was off to the side. Walter looked at Adam and patted the couch next to him. “You are really worried about her.”
“She is hurt and in the hospital,” Adam spoke as he nodded his head and sat down. He tilted his head to the side and looked over at Jason’s computer. “Really, pull up Google Maps and view it that way… I’m sure by narrowing places out that are from where she did stuff as the angel and away from the convent will make it appear as if there is a neighborhood that she is staying in.”
“And then you can narrow down from less frequently viewed areas to where she appears more,” Walter stated as he nodded his head. “I like this idea.”
“There is still a ton of cameras to go through… that’s the problem,” Jason snapped as he rubbed his head. Walter tilted his head to the side. “Scared of something?”
“We don’t know how Nikita got out of Section… maybe there is still a Section and she is in charge of it but it is named something else…” Jason pointed out as he closed his laptop and turned to the two men. “I don’t want to put my life on the line for this.”
Adam pulled his legs up and held his knees with his arms. He did not like Jason right now. He was supposed to be helping them but he was worried about himself.
“Man, you are nothing like your brother,” Walter shook his head coldly. “You don’t need to be frightening Adam like this. And you should know that if she was into something like that, we would have seen signs already. She sat in a convent for months. I don’t think she is with any organization right now. I think that is the last thing that Nikita is involved with right now.”
Adam dropped his legs as Jason rolled his eyes. “I’m practicing careful vigilance.”
Walter shook his head as he looked at Adam. “I guess I am not sure why you care so much about Nikita, Adam.”
“You think I should hate her?” Adam asked with a shrug of his shoulders. “At first I did. My dad wouldn’t let me. He kept on saying that Nikita gave me him back.”
Walter nodded his head slightly as he saw that it was wise decision on Michael’s part to say it that way.
“I was young… and as I got older, my dad told me more about Nikita. How she really tried to honor a marriage with my mother that my father didn’t want to be in… it was rough… but my dad taught me about Nikita and I could see how he talked about her that he loved her even though they were apart,” Adam continued to explain.
Jason now turned to look at Adam. Walter was sure that Jason could learn a lot from this young boy.
“You really care for her… I don’t think Nikita would have ever thought that was possible,” Walter commented as he did want Adam to be prepared if Nikita kept her distance from him.
“My dad also taught me that my mother did what she felt was right… and that she loved me,” Adam said and Walter was mildly confused about where Adam was going with this line of thought. “But he also said that there is more than biological family… there is the family that you select to have in your life and sometimes that selected family means so much more to you…”
Walter felt his heart pang because that was exactly what he thought about Nikita. She was the family that he didn’t get to have, but the family he would pick to have if he had the opportunity to select a daughter.
“I knew that my dad was talking about Nikita… and when I asked him what Nikita would think about this selected family he told me that he didn’t think she ever really had a biological family or a selected family,” Adam grew silence after a lot of talking that was years wiser than his biological age.
Jason turned and opened up the laptop. Walter watched as Jason turned off what he was working on and opened up Google Maps as Adam had suggested. “What are you doing, Jason?”
“I get it,” Jason muttered as he started to type quickly. “I’m diverting some of my resources from hiding to searching…”
“That’s a good thing… sounds more like what your brother would do,” Walter gently commented and he earned a glare from Jason. Jason hated when Walter pointed out things that Birkoff would have done or wouldn’t have done. But it was making Jason a better man who didn’t have the upbringing that Birkoff had. He may have been outside of Section One, but it didn’t mean that Section didn’t hurt Jason when he was younger.
“You could use my dad’s computer,” Adam commented as he grinned. “I broke into it about this time yesterday.”
Jason stopped typing and turned his head to look back at Adam. “No you didn’t.”
“I bypassed your email alert,” Adam shrugged his shoulders. “It was actually quite easy.”
“You promised your father,” Walter warned as he shook his head. He was not happy about hearing that Adam ignored the promise he gave.
“I promised that I wouldn’t break into his computer while he was looking for Nikita. He found her,” Adam smugly shrugged his shoulders again, knowing that he was pointing out a very small technicality that really was Adam being a smart Alec.
“Did you find anything?” Jason inquired.
“Jason!”
“If he saw anything, he might as well tell me!” Jason protested to Walter.
“I didn’t see anything new, Walter,” Adam touched Walter’s arm. “I was just checking all of the alerts and triggers he has in place for things related to Nikita… I think no one is looking for her because once he knew that Jason was in his machine, he accounted for Jason looking for Nikita… and no one has looked at anything related to her other known names…”
“My god, Michael is raising a hacker!” Jason laughed and Walter slapped him against the back of his head. “Get to work, Jason.”
“And I’m not going to be a hacker,” Adam huffed. “I’m going to be a scientist, like my dad.”
