Michael knew that Davenport was skilled enough to hopefully keep an eye on where Nikita went before she disappeared. The way that Nikita was made it impossible to guess what she would do, but with what Nat had done, Michael could see Nikita trying to sneak out while he was gone.
The house was lit up as he entered. He just wanted to eat something, get a few hours sleep, and hope that he could get Jason to find where Nikita was going when she wasn’t in the convent. There had to be information about what had gone on somewhere. There was no way that Nikita only had things at the convent.
“Dad! Come in here,” Adam called out as Michael just barely closed the door. He wished that the clock indicated that it was later than it truly was so he could tell Adam to go to bed. Michael did not want to hide in the lab to do the work that he needed to do. “Adam, I’ve been with Nikita… for days…”
“I think you want to listen to your son,” Walter stated and Michael shook his head. “What I need is to find where Nikita has been staying when she isn’t at the convent… she has to be keeping another place because that has to be where she keeps supplies… she has to have Intel and a computer… and weapons somewhere…”
“Dad, I’ve started that,” Adam rolled his eyes as he tilted his head to the side to look at his father. Michael blinked his eyes hard and shook his head slightly. “What?”
“Your son came up with the idea to look at the area that Nikita was appearing in the cameras that had nothing to do with where the angel was and away from the convent… I thought it was a long shot, but we identified an area in the Cultural District…” Jason spoke up as he saw that Michael was now paying attention slightly. Michael sat down and looked at Jason and then Adam. “That makes no sense…”
“Yes it does,” Adam declared but he offered no more explanation.
“We actually found a four block radius that she appeared a lot…” Jason informed Michael as he turned the laptop that he was working on towards Michael to show him the map. “The buildings there are exclusive, high-end condos…. The smallest unit starting at a half-million dollars.”
“Nikita doesn’t have money like that,” Michael declared and Walter rolled his eyes. “And you left Section penniless?”
Michael stopped and rubbed his head. “I’m sorry… I just thought with the way that she has been living…”
“She has a dual life, Dad,” Adam declared and Michael looked at the buildings and sighed. “There are hundreds of people in those buildings… and you can’t tell me that it is positive that Nikita lives in one of them because she happens to appear in those cameras more often. They have more cameras in that part of town. That can explain why she appears more often.”
“But I did pull the recently purchased or leased agreements in the past year… and look at this building’s report...” Jason pushed the laptop closer to Michael. Michael scanned quickly and shrugged his shoulders. “There is no Nikita.”
‘Nikki Samuels!” Adam exclaimed as he turned and pointed to the screen.
“Adam, I taught you about coincidences…” Michael warned and Walter sat down next to Michael. “This would work out better if you just let these two tell you everything without you questioning everything, Michael.”
Michael sighed in frustration. He just wanted the quick information and he was tired. “Get on with it.”
“I knew that the name could be just a coincidence… and I was concerned because the purchase of the penthouse condo was completed eleven months ago – prior to Section disappear,” Jason explained as he leaned over and pulled up another screen. “But even though the paperwork went through ahead of time, Nikki Samuels didn’t get an access card until two weeks after Section disappeared.”
Michael nodded his head slowly as he had to admit, it was looking hopeful that this was Nikita.
“And then I said that we should look at the electricity used in that condo,” Adam rushed in and Michael tilted his head to the side, confused. “What would that prove?”
“Well, Adam was right… I compared the energy use in that condo and it was easily four times the use of any other unit in that building and in that block… enough to power a small server like room… with lots of equipment,” Jason interjected as he knew that Michael was looking crabby. He knew that he had to move it along. “I then checked the internet connections and found out that Nikki Samuels purchased a dark fiber connection… that’s fast speed… so I tried to break in…”
“That was funny,” Adam laughed and Jason looked at Adam. “What you broke yesterday is chump change to what is going on in that unit… that is heavy graded work, Adam. I shouldn’t be easily able to break into it… at least not remotely.”
“You broke into what?” Michael looked at Adam.
“I think it’s more important that you hear what else they found,” Walter quickly added, knowing that Michael getting upset with his son was not needed right now.
“I suggested that we just go over to the building and see if the security guard had seen Nikita,” Adam shrugged his shoulders as he glanced at Walter. Michael knew that Walter and Jason were covering for Adam right now and Michael was sure that it had something to do with his own personal computer.
“I didn’t like that idea,” Jason turned the computer towards him and started to pull up more screens. “But I was able to get into the building’s security system… and they have a good quality system... just too easy for me.”
Jason turned it around and on the screen the picture ID of Nikki Samuels showed Nikita looking blankly forward. “So it is her face and they require a retina scan also to get onto the elevators… and I crossed that with the information that I have from the copy of the Section databases and it’s a match.”
Michael leaned forward and knew that he had to get into that penthouse.
“I already made a keycard,” Jason pulled out the plastic tag and pushed it towards Michael’s hand. “I nosed around your lab…. I think you can handle the retina scan bypass, right?”
Michael nodded his head up and down. “That’s it?”
“That’s when I noticed what the pin for the penthouse suite was… which is after you get into the building and up the elevator… and it absolutely confirmed that it was Nikita… but it also made me feel that it was almost too damn easy…” Walter commented as he looked at Michael as he was flipping the card end to end in his hands. It was easy to see that Michael was ready to bolt to that penthouse.
“Pin?” Michael asked and Walter nodded his head. “It’s a six digit number…. And it means something to Nikita.”
“The day I left her on the bridge?” Michael asked and Walter shook his head slightly negatively. “That would have been a bad memory… who would use a bad memory date for a pin?”
“I don’t know Walter… it certainly isn’t the day she entered Section,” Michael retorted and Walter rubbed his hands together. “You are very close.”
“Close?” Michael asked and Walter sighed. “It’s a date two days after she entered Section… the date that she met you.”
