“I see that my Sugar still isn’t talking,” Walter spoke as he walked into the kitchen a few days after Nikita had been released from the hospital. Michael nodded his head and Walter sighed. He didn’t need Nikita’s lack of words to rub off on Michael right now. “Michael, I can’t even image how difficult it was to be in Section with no one to trust… she got us all out first.”

Michael nodded his head up and down. “Section was almost impossible with the best connections.”

“She was in charge, but she couldn’t have trusted anyone. I still don’t understand why she didn’t try to keep one of us in there with her until the end,” Walter rubbed his hands together as he looked around. “She hasn’t tried to leave?”

“I can’t talk to her about the end, Walter. She isn’t ready,” Michael warned Walter. He knew that was what Walter was hinting at him doing. “She talks the most to Adam… and it isn’t that much. It has been about how she feels.”

“And she hasn’t tried to leave?” Walter asked again as he was nervous about this.

“She hasn’t even looked outside. She told Adam ‘No’ when he asked her if she was thinking of leaving,” Michael shrugged his shoulders slightly. He wasn’t taking Nikita’s word on this. Davenport was still watching the house, ready to follow her once she left the house. “She didn’t sleep last night.”

“Nikita just needs to know that she is protected before she starts to open up,” Walter suggested as he leaned back in the chair. “I just don’t know how to make her know that.”

“I don’t think that is it at all,” Michael negatively swung his head from side to side. He looked at the table and then back to Walter. “Sister Rhoda called.”

“I thought she would never want to talk to you after what Tom did to Nat,” Walter whispered as he was surprised to hear this news. The Lieutenant had been so upset about what had happened. Even without Tom’s intervention, Nikita had been removed from having any connection with the angel cases by Jason by the end of that night.

Michael shifted as he had been thinking a lot about the phone call. He had to wonder if Sister Rhoda had been right with her approach – waiting for Nikita to make a move. Of course Sister Rhoda had tried to get Nikita to talk when she gave her possibly openings, but Rhoda didn’t hover like Michael felt that he had done since she arrived at his house.

“Maybe she should visit at some point,” Michael finally spoke as he really did think that maybe having Rhoda stopping by would be a good thing. “There are no other women around here.”

“I’m not sure about that, Michael,” Walter shook his head negatively. “I mean, it isn’t about women… We all know that things between Nikita and her mother were always bad… and that one time that you pulled that stunt with Nikita for her mother’s sake… that messed with her mind for weeks…”

Michael thought about the copy of the death certificate that he had found in Nikita’s box. Walter was correct in knowing that Nikita had a hard time with her mother. Madeline was even worse. But then, Michael knew that relationships within Section were hardly an indicator of what type of relationships one could have.

Before Michael could speak to any of this, he felt Nikita in the hallway. He stood up and reached his hand out to Nikita. She walked into the kitchen and took the chair that Michael offered. “Are you hungry, Kita?”

Nikita nodded her head slightly up and down. Michael nodded his head as he leaned into look at Nikita. He had to think for a moment and then Michael hooked a half smile. “A peanut butter and banana sandwich?”

Nikita nodded her head up and down as her blue eyes warmed with happiness that Michael remembered. She relaxed her shoulders slightly as she sat there with her hand in her lap. Walter rubbed his nose slightly as Michael started to work on the sandwich. It was odd to have Nikita sitting there and not really talking. “So Sugar… I was thinking that maybe you’d like to go shopping tomorrow. Get something more to wear.”

In response, Nikita frowned and shook her head from side to side. Michael had turned his head to see what Nikita was going to do in response and he counted to three. “I think that sounds like a great idea. You can get out and get some fresh air. Get some clothes that really fit you.”

“That’s a great idea,” Walter pointed towards Michael as he wanted to get Nikita to do something more. The more that she was just in the house, the more Walter was afraid that Nikita was going to slip away to never be seen again.

“Or at least go out for a walk. That should help the healing of your injuries,” Michael suggested as he picked up the plate and placed it in front of Nikita. “Milk with this right?

Nikita squeezed out a smile as she slightly nodded her head up and down.

“Don’t you want to get some real clothes, Sugar? I mean, the sweats look comfortable, but they aren’t you at all,” Walter continued on with this conversation. He had known that Nikita liked to shop so he assumed that this was something that Nikita would like to do.

Nikita chewed her sandwich and took the offered glass of milk from Michael. She swallowed the sandwich and then some milk before stopping. She realized that both Walter and Michael were staring at her. She needed to respond to them. “Internet.”

Michael walked to the sink and washed off the knife. Nikita wasn’t going to go shopping.
