“I asked Rhoda to come over, Kita,” Michael spoke as he watched Walter put the Monopoly board away. Walter looked at Nikita and sighed. She had beaten him. “I wish we had time to play the best out of three.”

“But she has a guest,” Rhoda spoke as she poked her head into the room. Nikita shook her head slightly. “You didn’t need to come.”

“I wanted to stop by either way,” Rhoda smiled as she entered the room and pushed Walter out of the room and then she looked at Michael. Michael lifted his cell phone up. “I have some calls to make.”

Rhoda didn’t close the door but waited for Michael to go out into the hallway. “Of course Michael told me about the cramps in your legs.”

Nikita shrugged her shoulders and forced a smile. “I pushed too hard while jogging.”

“It’s not normal for jogging to cause that,” Rhoda corrected Nikita’s statement as she sat down in the chair that Walter had sat in while playing the game with Nikita. Nikita rubbed her fingers into the blanket and then looked at Rhoda. “How is the new job?”

Rhoda had talked to Nikita some, but after months of Nikita being quiet, it was different having Nikita talking to her. But now that Nikita was talking, she was doing a good job at trying to divert the subject. “I’ll be happy to start at the clinic. Funding is tight there.”

“I may know someone,” Nikita commented as she turned her head slightly and then forced another smile towards Rhoda. “Your roommate?”

“Ze-Ze… is a hoot,” Rhoda chuckled as she nodded her head up and down. “I think might be seeing Nat.”

“Lieutenant McCarty?” Nikita questioned and Rhoda nodded her head up and down. “It scares me some…”

Nikita then pushed her hands thru her hair and it was like she could sense that she had allowed herself to bring Rhoda right back to the subject that she really was there to talk about. “Must be like how you seem to be afraid to go to a doctor.”

“I don’t need one,” Nikita replied back with terse words. She even shook her head from side to side. “I’ll take a hot bath… and I’ll be fine.”

“One leg cramping… I may think that,” Rhoda tilted her head from side to side as she spoke slowly. “Both legs… and into the hamstrings… that’s really severe cramping, Nikita.”

There was a knock at the door and Michael was pocketing the phone as he pushed the door open slightly. “I called a few friends…”

Nikita knew that Michael hadn’t called a few friends. She wearily looked at Michael with a look that could have frozen most people. Rhoda wasn’t sure all the context between these two, but they seemed to be hardest against each other. “The name Dr. Hlad who works at the Prentice Medical Center was suggested.”

Rhoda tilted her head and blinked her eyes. She knew of Dr. Hlad and her mind was starting to put some of the pieces together right now.

“Is he any good?” Michael questioned and Rhoda jerked her head. Michael had to know. “Dr. Ellie Hlad… she is really good.”

“I’m not going,” Nikita spoke with a husky voice. Rhoda stood up. “Nikita… are you former military?”

Nikita glanced at Michael with worry. She didn’t know how to response and she turned her head away.

“Why would you think that?” Michael inquired.

“Well, Dr. Hlad is a former military doctor. She has regular patients but also has a good bit of military, ex-military, police, and other kinds of law enforcement in her practice….” Rhoda spoke as she then sat back down. Things were making sense. If Nikita was some sort of military, that could be why she was able to get out of the hospital so quickly. It could also explain why Nikita had been in the convent. She could have been suffering from pretty severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In fact, it made a lot of sense.

Nikita winced as she squirmed in the bed. She shook her head from side to side. “No… I don’t need a doctor.”

“You are some sort of former military, aren’t you?” Rhoda asked and Nikita rubbed the back of her neck.

“Something like that,” Michael finally responded as he looked at Nikita. “Do you want another banana?”

Nikita rubbed her head and exhaled. “I just need to sleep… if you can…”

“You are starting to cramp again,” Rhoda declared as she looked at Nikita’s face. Nikita bite down on her lip and shrugged her shoulders. “It’s nothing.”

“Kita… I already called,” Michael admitted and Nikita glared at him. She could tell that Michael had called Tom just like he had suggested he could do. This doctor was Tom’s idea and Nikita didn’t like it one bit that she was former military. “I was told that I could take you to the ER… or we could come in whenever we could today.”

“I hurt too much to walk, Michael,” Nikita hissed and Rhoda raised her hands. “If you hurt so bad that you can’t walk… I’ll call the ambulance, Nikita.”

Nikita was being ganged up on and she didn’t like it. But she had to do something. She did not want to admit it, but the more people focused on the cramps, the more they were starting to scare her. “I can walk.”

“Kita…”

“And,” Nikita interrupted Michael as she glared at him with fire in her eyes. “I guess this doctor…”

“Dr. Ellie Hlad…” Rhoda supplied Nikita. “She is really good. Everyone loves her.”

Nikita looked at Michael. She was worried that this could be some sort of trap. She didn’t feel like she knew Tom enough. “I’ll go to her office.”

Rhoda smiled. “This is good, Nikita. I would rather you find out that it is just because you were running too hard.”

“Do you want some help getting ready?” Michael suggested and Nikita swallowed hard. “Rhoda… while I appreciate…”

“Call me,” Rhoda reached over and touched Nikita’s head. Rhoda liked the fact that Nikita was going to Dr. Hlad. She knew that Dr. Hlad knew a lot about PTSD and Rhoda had heard that Dr. Hlad had a way with helping the law enforcement deal with it. If Nikita wasn’t already diagnosed, Rhoda found it hard to not think that Dr. Hlad would diagnose PTSD quickly.

Rhoda walked out into the hallway and Nikita shook her head. “You called Tom.”

“I had no choice, Kita,” Michael looked at her. “Please, Kita… don’t change your mind now.”

“I didn’t lie in front of Rhoda, Michael,” Nikita rasped as she twisted her hands together. “I’ll go.”

“You are really hurting again,” Michael spoke and Nikita slowly started to nod her head up and down. “If I could just relax… all the way… I’d be fine.”

“Maybe we should go…”

“Stop that thought right now,” Nikita commanded with a loud voice. Michael blinked his eyes.

So that was how Nikita sounded when she was playing the role of Operations.
