“Stop,” Nikita spoke as she lifted her head. In front of their path to the door that led to Dr. Hlad’s office was Tom. Nikita felt Michael’s arms around her waist as she had her arm over his shoulder. Her legs were not happy at all with walking, but Nikita had found the strength to move forward on them. But now, she wanted to back pedal.
“Tom,” Michael spoke as he glanced around the hallway, feeling much like Nikita.
Tom shouldn’t be here.
“I have medical cards for insurance,” Tom indicated as he lifted his hand out of his pocket and showed the cards.
“Trap,” Nikita whispered as she pushed backwards against Michael’s arm. But Michael pushed forward. “He is a good guy, Kita.”
“I’m not going,” Nikita spoke a bit louder as she stumbled forward. “I’m fine.”
“You aren’t fine,” Tom spoke as he looked at the door and then to Nikita. “I’m not here for any other reason than to help you.”
Nikita pushed again backwards. “I want to go back… to the convent… not here… he… I don’t like this… this is a setup…”
Michael wasn’t sure what was going on but he knew that not everything was kosher. But he had looked up Dr. Hlad and it seemed as if everything was ok. Davenport was outside the building and if needed, Michael had helped on the outside if anything was plotted against them. The reality was, if Tom wanted to do something to Nikita, he would have done it while Nikita was at Michael’s house. This was too public.
“You need to see a doctor,” Michael whispered as he stopped pushing Nikita forward. He stood there and he knew that Nikita felt her legs still cramping. “You know you need to see a doctor.”
Nikita glared at Tom and blinked. “What is the name on the card?”
“Nikita Haussen,” Tom replied and Nikita swallowed. Nikita started to move forward and Tom opened the door. “Dr. Hlad has been waiting… she has no other patients right now…”
Michael knew that Tom had mentioned that he was going to see if Dr. Hlad could free up some extra time, but he didn’t know that Tom was going to be instrumental in that. However, since Rhoda mentioned that Dr. Hlad had worked with law enforcement, it is possible that Tom had a natural way to ask for some more time for Nikita.
Which was probably going to be needed because Nikita was going to be one of those difficult patients.
The office was very small. It was clear that Dr. Hlad had a small practice. There was only a small waiting room, an office that was clearly for the doctor, some supply area, and an examination room. But the examination room was very large and the bed was actually softer than Nikita had anticipated.
Nikita winced and as she opened her eyes, she saw Tom in the room. “What are you still doing here?”
“It will all become clear soon…” Tom spoke as he stood there. Nikita looked at Michael. “They didn’t ask me to change into a gown.”
“Dr. Hlad probably wants to meet you first,” Michael spoke as he stood erect, ready to launch if something wasn’t right.
Nikita dropped her head as her legs were seizing despite her attempts to get her mind to stop.
“Hi… my name is Dr. Ellie Hlad….” The doctor’s voice caused Nikita to lift her head even as her mind started to process that she knew that voice. Nikita opened her eyes to see a petite brunette doctor standing in front of her.
Nikita’s chest contracted as she remembered the last time that she had seen that doctor. She had been the last doctor from medical that Nikita was able to get out of Section. It had been very close for Dr. Holland, which was what her name was in Section.
While she had been able to get this doctor out, she hadn’t been able to get other doctors and nurses out before Section was destroyed. They needed to keep medical personnel or the other operatives would have known. Nikita knew that some of them didn’t deserve to get out as they had done dirty deeds, but no one deserved to die the way that they did, without any idea that it was happening.
Dr. Hlad almost dropped the electronic tablet that she had ready to start charting information about this new patient. She blinked her eyes and swallowed hard. “Operations…”
Nikita’s body seemed to completely constricted and Michael moved to Nikita’s side to keep her on the examination table. “Never… call…”
“I… I have to go back…” Dr. Hlad rasped as she shook. Tom knew that Michael was ready to kill him for this, but this was the only way. “Dr. Hlad…. Now that introductions have been made… may I talk to you in your office…”
“I don’t understand…. She has plenty of doctors in Section…” Dr. Hlad protested as she sidestepped Tom’s arm.
Nikita looked at her. “There is no Section.”
Dr. Hlad turned white as she stood there. Tom motioned to the hallway. “I’ll explain…”
“You better be explaining,” Michael hissed the warning as he wrapped his arms around Nikita. He had no doubt that Nikita’s mind was now at war with memories of time in Section. That was not what Nikita needed right now. She needed medical attention.
“At least there won’t have to be lies about medical conditions,” Tom indicated as he held out a USB drive in his hand. Michael knew that drive. It was one that Jason had used, which meant that it probably did contain all of Nikita’s medical history from Section. Michael understood that it was probably the smartest thing to find a doctor that Nikita got out, but still, it wasn’t right.
