Subject: Batman

This is the movie that should have come out in 1989. And by now we'd be on our fifth movie in this decent series rather than have the Burton/Schumacher crapfests we got. Oh well.

It was a good story and it was actually about Bruce Wayne/Batman rather than being about the villain. I know, SHOCKER! (No, not the Spider-Man villain...) The supporting characters were supporting rather than cameos. Gordon actually did stuff rather than just give Batman a thumbs up as he drove by. It was approached realistically and many of the fantastic elements of Batman were given reasonable explanations. And thematically, it gelled well.

There were a half-dozen lines of dialogue that had Goyer's fingerprints on them. Goyer needs a director like Guillermo del Toro to come in and chop some of the goofy lines. Blade II is still Goyer's best movie thanks to del Toro's directing.

Besides some of the clunky dialogue, my only major complaints:

1. No recognizable theme as a part of the score.
2. Batman's voice was weird.
3. Batman's cowl was poorly designed. (The costume as a whole was disappointing.)

I do have what some would call Bat-fatigue so I wasn't really as into this as I was Spidey. Maybe I would have felt differently if this movie came out five years ago. I also still find the animated series to be vastly superior in virtually every way. I think the Batman character could have been stronger, but whether that is really a problem depends on the next movie and how he's portrayed there.

There you have it. I've given my review. At the rate it's going, the internet will soon be comprised entirely of Batman Begins reviews by nerds.

PS: To make this Hossin' related, I did have popcorn while watching BB. Very, very buttery popcorn.
