thanks for the invite,Flex.

Aunt Sonya's was a nice, nothing fancy, family run restaurant, affliated with a local hotel that was past its prime. The food,in general, was nothing fancy; just your standard midwest meat and potatoes. Their specialty (and my particular favorite) was breakfast, which they thoughtfully served all day. Numerous varieties of pancakes, a multitude of omelets, and (my usual choice) an excellent take on biscuits and gravy. B&G, done properly, requires a good sausage and just enough peppery bite to excite but not overpower. Aunt Sonya's consistently hit that mark. Their biscuits provided a solid foundation and their personal touch was to incorporate hash browns between the gravy and the biscuits. Flex and I disagree, somewhat, on the virtues of this move. I, being of fan of most things starchy, thought it to be good.

As Flex said, it is a situation to lament. While Aunt Sonya's was nothing special, they had an essence that a chain never will. The wait staff was mainly experienced and they greeted the regulars like family (and there were many regulars. The closing had nothing to do with a lack of success, they were a victim of a real estate transaction beyond their control) and the decor was a reflection of the local scene, with autographed photos of the local sports heroes covering the walls. Sadly, there is now one less unique feeding establishment in our world of O'RubyCheddarbee's.
