Subject: My little rundown of the games... (long, as usual)
In reply to: Anita 's message, "Re: Whose Line tonight August 8th" on 08/10/03 5:33pm

I had to watch the shows again before I typed this up.

First ep (with Greg):

Scene to Music. I think this worked pretty well, but I really prefer it when there are only two players. Colin & Wayne are newlyweds (Drew tells them to decide which one is the woman), and Ryan is the gung-ho exterminator who's come to tell them they have a roach infestation.

First it was funny how Wayne & Colin tried to get the other one to be the bride. Wayne says, "You are the most beautiful wife a man has ever had." Colin: "So are you." Then when Ryan appears as the exterminator, he mimes roaches coming out of his mouth. (I'm trying to remember the movie this happened in. [Maybe there were more than one.] E.G. Marshall plays a rich germaphobic guy who locks himself away in a penthouse, only to get overrun by roaches and, well, his demise is as Ryan mimed.) Anyway, Ryan has a slip of the tongue and says "roast" instead of "roach" (and 'infection' instead of "infestation", I might add). Everybody runs with that, which is pretty funny.

The music goes from scary to Western/Indian to Irish. When the American Indian-type music came on, Wayne started doing smoke signals. Colin shouts, "This is a nonsmoking room!" Then when the Irish music started, almost simultaneously the three of them Riverdanced. Good game. Would have been better with just two.

SFAH. I didn't think any of these were too inspired. Not the suggestions and not the ideas the guys came up with.

Song Styles. Endarma the contortionist. I have to admit I liked Drew's "Greg, this is Endarma. Endarma, Greg." Then Wayne was to sing as Prince. I have to hand it to Wayne. It's pretty tough to sing when a woman is in front of you bending in all sorts of intriguing ways. Plus, Wayne came up with some clever lyrics. Afterwards, Ryan said, "That's originally how I hurt my back." and "You know, you could sneak her on a plane in your carry-on." Then he talked about how the xray tech would react when he checked out the bag on his screen.

Changed Letter. Use W for B. Wayne was a basketball player in the locker room. Greg was a doctor. Colin was a flirtatious woman reporter. Ryan was... the coach? This was so-so. As Drew pointed out later, the B words were hard to come by.

Living Scenery. I don't think using a contortionist worked that well. It was almost like a bad performance artist piece. My favorite part was Wayne -- When Ryan & Colin were both warming their hands over Endarma as a fire, Wayne came over and started warming his hands too. He was left out a lot, afterall. Oh, and yes, Colin's "ice hole" line was great.

Hats. Are there any new jokes left in this game? My favorite part: Ryan eating a banana. My least favorite part: Drew's stupid "joke" about watching Ryan "eat that banana all... night... long." Man, I'm sick & tired of Drew's gay-themed jokes. I wish he'd give them up.

Sportscasters. Ugh. Drew tried to do a sportcaster-type voice, but it was a poor imitation. I always love listening to Greg, however. I liked his comment about the "#2 Ticondaroga pencil." I think he's doing a spoof on Dennis Miller's tenure as a Monday Night Football commentator.

Credit Reading. What credit reading?

Second ep.

Press Conference. Good game. Everyone did good. I believe this topic was done before, maybe on the British version. One critique: I wish they'd stop with the elaborate reporter name business. In addition to Ryan's 'tang' joke, I loved Colin's pun in talking about the Russians: "As I say, the Mir the merrier."

SFX. These women were good, unlike the last pair we saw. They made SOUNDS! Halleulah!

IDS. What happened to the third verse, the one that Colin starts? They've done this before. Hmmm. Frankly, I didn't like Wayne setting him up so deliberately, but Colin made it work.

PQ. Again with the elaborate quirks? *sigh* I guess that's just how it's gonna be. Wayne did well with his, but who the heck thought up THAT one? My favorite was Colin's. I remember reading someone's taping report about this and thinking his quirk & the way he did it was great. I wouldn't mind reading this again, so whoever you are -- Michelle, LKK? -- please post a link to it, if you don't mind.

Helping Hands. Not bad, not bad. It's just not a favorite game of mine. Yes, Kathy did very well. (Did you pay attention, Drew?) Best parts: Colin taking a drink from the champagne, and R & C struggling to kneel.

Themed Restaurant. Meh. My favorite part was when Colin at the desk announced what the theme was. I don't think "Wizard of Oz" is that promising a theme. I liked Ryan's "I am the great and powerful waiter!" Wayne spilling the water on himself as the wicked witch was to be expected, but I wonder why he didn't say, "I'm melting! I'm melting!" No biggie; I just wonder.

Even with my reservations, these were two good eps. I guess we've got to enjoy them while we can.
