Welcome to the open forum for Descendents of Salvation Army Officers.

Tracing families for the descendents of early Salvation Army Officers can become a challenge due to several factors.

1. The families often moved about countries, if not the world, and often more then once in a given year. Tracing families at large creates problems in matching who was where and when.

2. Many records for members were destroyed during the bombing of England during World War II.

3. Officers assigned to divisional rather then corp work will be harder to trace because of their movements and how records were kept of their activities.

There are some resources available such as the Heritage Centre and publications like The War Cry that can help. All of the publication are not yet indexed and the Heritage Centre are working on comprehensive historical information. Part of the key is cooperation and help.
To that extent we can also help each other.

In working with the genealogy of my own family I found that many of my ancestors who were Salvation Army Officers married Salvation Army Officers or offspring of another officer. This means that a great potential exists for us to share information as we have common ground that not everyone has.

I hope this forum will help many find their ancestors. If you have not yet been there you may want to have a peek at
