My God Is

My God is a living God,
a God who cries, hurts, fears, loves,
is moody, gets pregnant, grows old, dies,
yet lives on and learns because we learn.

My God is a sinner, just as we are;
it knows both heaven and hell,
knows that should it condemn 'me'
to either place,
it too must assume that place
with me for eternity,
it knows that life is experience,
no more, no less.

My God races cars, plays football,
sings the blues, does drugs, cares for dogs,
picks dandelions, shapes clouds,
flies with eagles, gives birth,
performs abortions, makes war, kills,
spends time in jail, is President of nations,
and cleans toilets.

That is my God, A living God,
one who knows life
not just because he/she created it
and sits on a thrown watching it unfold,
but because he/she is down here
experiencing life first hand!
