The sand's still dry
And the storm off shore's not far behind
And I'm still waiting


An absent smile lit her fine lips but avoided her eyes - the only bit of evidence that maybe she wasn't as content at that moment as she appeared to be. The truth was, she was counting the days until her flight home for Christmas. If she wasn't so determined to do something on her own for once in her life, she would likely be organizing a transfer to a school on the Islands for January, but she was too stubborn - and too proud - to give up. She was naturally such an optimistic person that it was hard for her to believe that this was just how things were going to be for the rest of her time here, and she was convinced that if only she was patient, and if only she just stuck it out, she would eventually find her own little niche in this lonely place. Arms crossed under her chest, she ducked her head against the light drizzle and hurried her way up the steps to the cover of the dimly-lit porch. Once sheltered, she straightened and pushed her hands through her hair - gathering the damp blonde waves into a simple but tidy ponytail - as she settled onto the edge of the swing, then tucked her chilled fingers between her denim-clad knees and allowed her pensive gaze to drift out over the dreary, darkening grounds...
